Years ago i went to a new Dr-I had symtoms of fibromyalgia. Dr did weak assessment of the "pressue points"" and actually said to me "Honey you don't have fibromyalgia. You're just fat and middle aged." Insulting and she was overweight herself. 2 Drs later and a rheumatologist diagnosed me with the fibro. He took my symptoms seriously and treated me.

It took me a year to get diagnosed. I had Drs thinking I was either on drugs or just out to get painkillers. 🙄 It’s a tough disease for so many reasons but it’s so hard to diagnose.

She was a nurse but: "How the hell are you even breathing?" That's when I learned that the Prednisone I had been taking since age 8 was hiding my inflamed turbinates.

I went to see a general practitioner once (VA doctor, so the rest of this should not be much of a surprise). He asked me what I was in for, despite my having written everything on the documentation I'd filled out when I arrived. I recounted as much as I could from memory, and then he asked me what I thought was wrong with me. I said, "If I knew that, why would I be here?" He pressed me on the topic, so I made a guess. He said that wasn't it. What else did I think it was? I made another guess. He said that wasn't it either. So I asked what HE thought it was, since apparently he knew enough about the condition to know what it wasn't. He said he didn't know, but if it's still happening in 6 months to schedule another appointment. Several of the issues I was having had already been an issue for more than 5 years at that point. There's quite a few reasons I don't bother with VA healthcare anymore.

Exactly my thoughts! And typically they don't go to the gynecologist either.. im very confused by that story. .

Also... why hasnt his mom met his doctor? My job is to register patients for their doctor appointments and under 18 we need a signature from a parent or guardians giving consent or by someone over 18 who is authorized to consent for medical treatment. And for someone being seen by a GYN under 18 they need to be with a parent or guardian. But this is in the US so maybe not the same in other areas i guess.
