Which one is the best about skating downhill 😀 ?
@lisapet160 Жыл бұрын
You have larger lung capacity when not in aero posture. Most effective wheels position in terms "buck" per effort is under the skater's body. You do go faster when extending the legs further, expanding the active push phase, but each additional km/h comes with higher extra cost. In my understanding, this is the prime reason for double push efficacy: more active propelling while the foot is under the body.

Hi Victor, For short distance Skater what should be the perfect training pac? 1) Less technical but require more Power. 2) Need to practice more polymectric and weight Training. 3) Very good corner practice. Above all the points are correct for Short distance Skater or you have different options. Please specify
@thorupviktor Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't pick either of those. I think a training plan (unless the skater is already very, very good at skating) should be based on technical training, combined with a pretty all-around skating style program and include a little bit of dryland, plyometrics, weight lifting and depending on the athlete aerobic exercise off skates. Basically what I based this plan on: viktor-hald-s-school.thinkific.com/courses/Sprintandspeed

This is good to know. I always end up more upright for distance skates as my back cant handle staying low for long. Technique-wise, the upright position feels easier to double push as I can feel the weight transfer on the landing skate, as opposed to being distracted by the tension in quads and glutes in the low position. I was able to sustain 23-25km/h on a 4x90 setup with a mid cuff boot in an upright position. Do you think there is much more speed I can squeeze out of that setup with improved technique or would I need bigger wheels?
@thorupviktor Жыл бұрын
That makes good sense. Having the weight well centered on the skate is easier with a more upright upper body position. Whether this is worth it, aerodynamically, is something you'd have to find out with a Graspor :) I recently did some testing comparing wheels sizes down to 4x84mm on fitness skates, where my HR130 corresponded to 27.1kph. So there's still some speed to gain ;) That said, you're probably ready to move onto 100mm or even 110mm if you can maintain that pace on 90's.

@@thorupviktor Amazing, you hit a higher speed with smaller wheels and lower HR! As a mere mortal, I'll subtract a healthy 20% from your numbers as a realistic reference guide :) Would love to see a video comparing the speed differences between wheel sizes. I've been real close to making the move to 4x100, but part of me wonders if the incremental upgrade will net a substantial speed increase vs going straight to 4x110.

So if I get it right, we can bend less the knees, but the torso should be parallel nevertheless ? Would be gratefull if you could do a video about how to train to obtain the parallel torso. My lumbar muscles are killing me when I try to skate bent, and always wind up skating straight like an I after a few minutes.

These measurements are pretty individual, your Graspor might show that different styles can be more efficient. For me, the position of the upper body had little effect on my oxygen saturation, so the horizontal position was just the most aerodynamic one :) I Believe the key focus point to make that easier to maintain, is to make sure the hips stay "forward", also at the end of the pushes... That said, more skating makes it easier... And even with lots of skating, my back still hates me at the end of the long sessions ;)

Found it interesting that you never showed the low position when turning. I dabbled with short track at age 47 and I found that it was nearly impossible to do crossovers in a turn without being at the maximum low position. Maybe I just sucked :-)

hey man im an inline speed skater and i skate with a 4 wheel frame and i was wondering if there was any reason you skate with only a 3 wheel frame? Also I was wondering if you skate on 110's or 125's? Keep up the great vids also i am using them to practice for next years season.
@kitsaurus Жыл бұрын
When you see pros on 3 wheels it's always 125mm
@thorupviktor Жыл бұрын
I skate with 3x125mm for two reasons: 1. It's what I mainly compete on. 2. Fewer skate-to-ground contact points makes it easier to imitate the ice skating movements.... Okay, a little bit because it's faster haha

The problem is the back pain in low position when we are more than 50yo...😅👊
@thorupviktor Жыл бұрын
Even at my age, the back isn't always on board, so I can only imagine. If you have a Graspor, I suggest you try and play around with different upper body positions. You might find that some of the rather comfortable positions, are just as, or almost as fast as the more "aggressive" ones :)
