Before it was dipped bet it looked smart. Dipping exposes everything and each individual repair over its 50year life. Way forward may depend on what he wants to achieve, if paying a bodyshop to achieve an immaculate raw shell again will cost thousands and potentially financially kill the project. Its a build that could be led buy the heart not the head. Noting that a lot of the previous necessary local repairs may been over many years to keep it on the road, with no opportunity for the full assessment now available 👍

@@williamholmes9129 oh yes getting her back to a mint shell would cost a small fortune but this is just a fast road maybe track day toy so it not got to be perfect just got to be good so hopefully won’t cost the earth

@skidmores.garage by your assessments there are a lot of essential bodywork improvements that could provide a workable shell that would look visually ok with a skim of filler, but would a 'bodyshop' want to do just those and put their name to it, would be an ideal DIY job if has the tools, space and basic knowledge. Let's hope it goes forward as would make some great content 👍

@@skidmores.garage Specifically, the Estate was first rolled out with the "modernized front" in 1969. There was the Mini "Traveler" before that, effectively a Clubman but with the classic Mini front. The design you have was the crazy Frankensteining of the Austin Maxi front with the classic Austin Mini cabin and rear. Since yours doesn't have the double-door hatch, you could restore it to the wonderful and loved Mini 1275 GT.

To far gone. But its not impossible to fix this shell. But it will cost a lot! Looking more suitable as garden art. There has been a rollcage in it already. And Clubman was first made in 1969 😉

Poorly made little cars that up until a few years ago weren't worth all that much, certainly not worth repairing and restoring correctly. They were all botched up to get them through another MOT. So we're left with these old botched up shells to try and repair correctly now, the survivors that if they hadn't been botched year after year would'nt be here. I'm currently working on a 1980 City that has been botched over the years and I'm spending a stupid amount on new panels, which thankfully are easily obtainable. It won't be worth anything like what I'll end up spending on it but I like doing this! That shell I'd suggest is past fixing, the most of the shell requires replacing and being set up on a jig. It would be a good project to do but is it worth it?

I think a heritage shell would be cheaper than repairing that thing. Forget about the nostalgia behind its originality because it’s a liability especially if it’s going to be a race car.

That's bad and it's nothing special-probably '70s. I suggest you tell the owner to have the shell completely restored by a body restorer before you even touch it. Leave the restorer to tell him what needs doing.
