Nurk, I'm so happy to see you trying this! I sent you an email about this a couple months ago and I'm glad you got in contact with medlindrone. Keep practicing! It gets more natural as you get used to it. It took me 15ish packs before I really got into the groove of it. One of my favorite moves is to fly full speed at the subject and come to a dead stop, then fly backwards all while maintaining the framing of the subject. it takes some practice to synchronize your head tilt and finger movements but becomes second nature eventually. I want to explore adding a second axis to allow for pan and well as tilt, because i find myself trying to turn my head left/right to look in that direction, I noticed Winston trying to do that once or twice in this video, lol.

What I like about this is that you can bring along a "passenger" who can have his own independent head tracking. This could not only be useful for recreation, but search and rescue as well. Four eyes are better than two.

I'm building one of these single axis setups now but would love to figure this out. More like a professional camera drone where the camera is piloted by a second controller. I'm wondering how this would be done. As i think about it, you could just have those 3 channels on a second TX, buddy boxed, or trainer ported into the original tx.

so tricky to fly like this. In addition to the normal but very high spatial awareness needed to fly FPV, you now have to be able to use your head in a completely separate way, while your hands remain steady flying just like normal. Not being able to properly keep track of what the two things are doing will mess with altitude and angles. It really is a whole mind-f*ck of a piloting trick. But Nurk pretty much nailed it already, proving once again that he is from another planet and is determined to showing us mere mortals how deep the FPV hobby can go. 👍🏼👍🏼

Well that F'ing rocks. HDO2 doesn't have a head tracker, and I'm not going back to my Attitude V2s just to get it back, so now I have an alternative. lots of tricks to do with this, but imagine a trippy spin where the camera angle stays the same but the spin speed increases and decreases, maybe even reverses. or some "look down" tracking shots while doing split S's to give a whole new sense of height and freefall.

But it'd be really cool if you had the ability to look backwards so you could follow it. But obviously not just breaking your neck backwards. Maybe set it up to raise or lost your head and it slowly pans in one direction or the other.

@nurk FPV I would try using the down tilt for chasing athletes downhill like mtb at red bull rampage; or big mountain free skiers. I had heard gab707 was using negative tilt for following snowboarders downhill; not sure if he still does. But that’s what I think would allow for this cooler above then level and reveal by chasing an athlete.

What you need is a permanent frame of reference to know exactly where you are looking in relation to the position of the aircraft. I can see this being accomplished by either placing a physical plastic bubble with tic marks over the top of the camera or developing a software overlay that moves with the camera. If you could adapt the same camera gimbal to the quadcopter that you have on the fixed wing, you could literally fly it like a fighter pilot, watching exactly where you'd be flying, and hovering with your viewpoint horizontal rather than just looking up at an angle.

A whole second DJI Caddx Vista setup and GoPro with smooth 360deg head tracking, bottom-mounted to a larger explorer drone (6inch+ I guess). Using head tracking (and some reframing), the flight could look less mechanistic and more natural, like looking into the turns before making them. Or, tracking objects of interest independent of the flight path.

It opens up the possibility for those slow Fincher shots like top down following a car locked to its speed. This is really cool because you could do both top down slow moody shot and transition into true FPV swooping down to get in closer. Straight down is always a challenge with FPV vs a mavic same with staying still, how was it when hovering in place? Anyways @NURK FPV This is so cool, I think it will be extremely useful but I’m also surprised how well you could keep it in the air, amazing!

I would want this to transition from faster to slower flying. plus for maintaining position during high flying where I wouldn't normally be able to see the ground. To just hover around, scope things out and line up some free falling descents would be a lot of fun. seems cool but I think it would be enough to just have a switch to go from, say high upward tilt, low tilt, and downward tilt. And it would keep things less nauseating probably.

I am doing that right now to my plane!! Starting with analog first in case I don’t like it. I was thinking of adding a micro servo to my qwad fpv cam so I can adjust it with a knob on my qx7. Just an idea.

so, this might be too odd to fly but I'd love to try the head tracker plumbed into the actual pitch of the drone in angle mode or something like that. could make some cool shots, could not work at all!

Hello I am a huge fan of yours and you're one of the few people on here that I'll listen to and can understand so much easier than most and you explain everything in detail that makes people like me understand a lot more about all the fpv stuff and by the way you do such a awesome awesome job explaining betaflight and everything to help people out on here I can imagine how many people you would actually helped out over the years from the knowledge you know about about this stuff, but anyway I wish you would actually give me a text if you ever got a chance because I got me a radio Master TX 16s and I also have a happy model mob Life 7 brand new in a box I also have a couple tp3s motors cameras everything to put together frames and all but I would like to put Express lrs receivers on them eventually the thing about all this I'm 53 years old on a very busy person I would love to have the time to sit down and learn betta flight and this new radio go I got I am totally lost on it right now LOL I'm used to running spectrum and I was just now getting the hang of it then something else pops up but right now I would like to get my happy model my bike 7 two of my tp3's built with expresslos and analog because I cannot afford digital none whatsoever that's a long long ways off I don't even have a pair of fpv gargle yet, I got into drones when it first came out I'm a pretty good line of flight flyer and always wanted to learn fpv but man this hobby gets expensive I was wondering I have his church group that I started a flying group at church it picked up for a while and was really doing really great among the kids and some of the adults and then covid hit and everything started slowing back down but now it's starting to pick up again bigger than ever especially inside micro drones. kabob at an at FP cycle was truly nice enough to donate some items to the young kids at my church to help him get into this hobby and I really got to think this guy he really come through and I was wondering if it's possible if you have so many drones fpv equipment goggles that if it's possible that you'd be willing to maybe think about donating to this great cause a flying club for young children and man you should see the looks on there face under out there flying and having fun there's no words can explain it I am willing to buy or pay for shipping costs if you have any extra items that you never use anymore we are really really hurting for fpv goggles more than anything but I figured I'd just give it a shot and see what happens my name is Bill and you can always text me yet 423-502-1774 my address is 1317 Cora ln, N0 7 in Johnson City Tennessee maybe you can tell your friends about us also I love to watch your channel and how you review all your items and several other channels of people will be in their items and all I can think is they have so many drones and equipment it surely they don't fly all the time and they can make some kids very very happy by donating them and put them to use so thank you very much I look forward to hearing from you and keep up the great work

Man, I wish the DJI fpv drone had this integrated. They would just need the head tracker and that would be legit

A long time ago when I thought about the possibilities of a headtracker setup for drone cinematography footage, one idea was to have two VTX's & two FPV cams on a single quad, with one regular FPV cam for the pilot and the other on a 2-axis head-tracked gimbal which also holds the GoPro, the idea being you have a pilot and a cinematographer working together and talking to each other to get the shots rather than relying on the pilot doing all the work. The headtracked camera then wouldn't need to be pointing in the same direction as the quad, allowing perfectly smooth sideways shots like flying alongside a car/train etc. and looking at it side-on. Would that be a realistic idea at all?

The only problem here is you would need to double everything. 2 cameras, 2 vtx and 2 RX and a separete Fc (if not, how 2 people would control the same drone?)
@licensetodrive9930
@licensetodrive9930 2 жыл бұрын
@@evFPV You're right, you'd have to double up pretty much everything, and you'd have to figure out how to get two VTX's not to drown each other out etc. Like I said it was an old idea long ago, and now the wide angle stabilised camera tech from the likes of Insta360 has pretty much eliminated the need for a physical gimbal in many situations.

Since the DJI FPV drone has a single axis gimble, do you think it would be possible to connect the head tracking to that somehow?
