Hi Grover, I wonder if with todays instruments such as GC, MS the industry can crack down the violators that go outside of the norms so we can enjoy the traditionally made tequila and avoid the chemicals being added and processes such as diffusers which are damaging the heritage? Thanks, Ted

There's no one test that can detect all additives used in a tequila, but there are a few tests that can find certain things. Gas Chromo machines aren't of any use at all for additives. However, Liquid Chromo machines can find artificial sweeteners, glycerin, and propylene glycol. And with a sequential analyzer you can detect natural sweeteners. Caramel coloring, oak extract, and flavor essences can't be detected. We are running lab tests to detect what we can, and fortunately sweeteners and/or glycerin are usually present whenever other ingredients are used.

I can’t find as much information about tequila companies that cutting corners in production. Tequila Matchmaker used to be the best resource regarding quality. I miss the info.

@@tastetequila I used to see if tequilas were made through brick ovens, autoclave, diffuser. I was looking up a big tequila brand and can’t find it now. I was wondering where some of the brands that cut corners are now.
