I'm in an extremely small minority who's favorite phone of all time was the LG V60 with dual screen case. I absolutely adored that phone and I used both screens all the time. The reason I have a OnePlus open now is because I missed the level of multitasking I was able to do on the LG. I tried a Samsung z fold for a while and returned it because I didn't like the outside screen size. When the OnePlus open came around I had to try it and I have loved it.

The V60 was my gateway phone into the foldable market. I got it with the case for $450 and my reasoning was if I like this and the foldable market keeps getting better and more durable, I can invest the money into a better one. It was so big though with the case and while I am indifferent to the size of the front screen of the Z fold phones, I was just happy to have a front screen as that was one of my biggest wishes of the V60 is that it had a cover screen that you could use besides just notifications.

For me personally the foldable offers me flexibility to take my office work with me instead of lugging around my laptop or carrying both my phone and tablet. Most of my day is spent in Teams calls going over documents, viewing and sharing spreadsheets. While I don't "need" a foldable phone it sure makes my life easier. Another topic: What do you think about HTC returning to the cellphone market? Before switching to Samsung I had a few HTC phones and liked them all. I especially loved the M9 with the stereo front facing speakers.

I am still trying to decide between the OnePlus Open and the Pixel Fold. Whichever one I use, I take advantage of the extra space provided by the opened phone, and for many activities related to work, it is lots better. My problem is that it is a HUGE distraction. I play with the damn thing, I research developments in foldables, I listen to foldable podcasts and videos and tweak the phone as I never did with my slab. I have to get to the place where it is my phone, not my playground, but the damn thing and the issues and features it presents are so f-ing fun to fool with. Instead of a "death scroll" on my phone, it is more like the "black hole of setup tweaking and features and research." It is a huge problem that I have to control or walk away from the wonders of foldables.

I use my foldable mostly in the car and for work as well. I take a lot of notes and always need to look up things and being able to have the bigger screen and multiple things open at once makes using it so much easier. I also use it as a 2nd or 3rd screen with my laptop and/or portable monitor. The HTC One (I think the M7 was the 1st one) was the first Android phone that I really fell in love with. The speakers were AMAZING for the time and the build quality was amazing.

I think this was a really good video. I would like to see you continue this, maybe once a month or once every other month. About 5 years ago I purchased an iPad that I tried using for work. I was quickly frustrated by the lack of customization that I was able to do easily on my Android phone. I eventually gave it to my son, who had an iPhone. Like you said, they way people use their devices is personal and some people don't care about the customization, which is fine. The Apple ecosystem is a little to restrictive for my tastes.

Not many people "need" a foldable or an Ultra level device. It's the same reason someone buys a 4 X 4 in Los Angeles, no practical need/use case they just wanted it lol. 😂

I have a Z Flip foldable. Before I got it I thought it would be the least practical style of phone but it's really been surprising how much easier a typical slab phone sized device fits in my hand, pockets, bags, the little bin under my car radio (where the usb is), etc etc when you can fold it in half. Must be the same reason books are basically folded in half tablets of paper.

With regards to the iOS vs. Android debate, I've always maintained a foothold in each camp. I've been all in on the Apple ecosystem but tend to fall away after a while due to limits and restrictions when having to live with Apple's restrictions. I'm a PC gamer so it makes more sense for me to use a Windows PC anyways and I always felt iOS too limited in many ways. That has changed quite radically in the last three or four years now with not only iOS but iPadOS as well. With that said, I feel more at home on Android and I really appreciate the creativity and diversity of Android phones and tablets so I only keep an old iPhone handy to maintain a few apps, test software with and occasionally use FaceTime since nearly all of my family is on iPhone. You should have heard the complaining from my friends and family when I went back to Android 😂

Sometimes having 6 hours or more of on screen time per day I don't mind spending the extra money to get the foldable. Im on my second foldable coming from sgf4 to OnePlus open and I love the upgrade, primarily for the cameras. Both foldables are super sturdy I've dropped my fold 4 and the open on concrete, on asphalt etc and they hold up really well. You have an awesome channel Shane ❤ love that you keep going back to devices when they get updated explaining what's new.

Really enjoyed this type of Q &A, not far from your regular videos. I enjoy listening to you talk about devices, without all the flash & sensationalism. I'm going to be real. I didn't have any issues with my Pixel 6 Pro until it developed an intermittent green tint and started flashing months later. I discovered this to be a not too uncommon issue . The lack of compassion and telling me it's a $300 repair hurts this Superfan. I'm starting to wonder if P6P should be a "worst" phone.

My smartphone history is similar to yours. I always like the weirder more experimental smartphones in those early days, and then my first, what became to be traditional, slab smartphone was also the HTC Evo 4G and I loved that thing, and then it was replaced by the HTC one M8 and I loved that as well. I had some iPods in the early days and the Mac computer, but they just never really spoke to me like the weirder stuff did.

It's up to you of course but once Apple releases their foldable it will make a lot of sense for you to get it and review it. Obviously you're channel is Android focused but I don't think there's anything wrong with getting an iPhone from the past 3-4 years (or an iPad Mini) before the release to get a feel for iOS as a daily driver to give the foldable a more nuanced review once it comes. I appreciate tech in general but as far as computers my experience has mostly been with Apple over the past 15 years, a lot of this has to do with being raised in Silicon Valley where iPhones have been ubiquitous practically since they were released, my first was in 2008. In any case this style of video is a great change of pace, keep it up and I wish you continued success with the channel.

Shane, which of the rugged phones do you prefer? Something from Oukitel? Someone else? I need to do some business things on it and play games as well. Don't mind the extra weight for battery needs. Most seem less $$ and will take a ton of abuse. They seem restrictive for carrier usage. Any ideas? Love your content!

I have often thought about reviewing tech but people can be rabid with being an Apple fan or android fan and then just argue over stupid things I have a windows laptop and an Apple laptop I love both for different reasons I have an I phone and I have 2 Samsung phones love them both for different reasons I love technology for the sake of experiencing solutions to problems that the digital age provides us and I love seeing clever and new designs but technology is fascinating to me whether it’s Apple or android windows or Mac at the end of the day just enjoy things and have a good time yes all sides can be shitty in one way or another and all sides can be great but does arguing about it over the internet with a stranger make your life better? No it’s sad and your time could literally be spent doing almost anything else and be more valuable

I’ve been an iPhone user since the 4s. I had the Galaxy S3 and my experience with that basically forced me over to Apple. That being said ever since Android got rid of the shitty TouchWiz OS it’s been fairly decent. Last experience with Android was the S21 ultra. That being said the things I liked about S21 Ultra was the Lock Screen widget notifications, showing how long till my phone is charged. Things I didn’t like which put me back to iPhone was apps are more frequently updated on time by Apple. The Android ones would consistently be 1-2 weeks behind which is a big security risk these days. The apps on iOS run smoothly and are more optimized. Visual voice mail is a native feature on iOS regardless of your carrier supports it. Having to dial my number to check a voice mail in 2024 is ridiculous. You get software and security updates regularly. That being said both systems are fairly similar these days especially after iOS 18. I stick with Apple cause my phone works when it needs to work and that’s more important to me than having the ability to customize or do certain features Android might do better.
@hobbitpsi3 ай бұрын
I've been with Verizon, AT&T and now T-mobile and never once on Oneplus, Pixel, or Samsung have I ever had any visual voice mail issues or support issues. That being said, I stand on both camps in regards to Android and Apple as I've used both consistantly. Like Shane, my first smartphone was the Palm Pre and loved that thing til it died, then my first smartphone after that and one I used for about 4 years was the iphone 4. I went to different Android devices after but always went back so owned and used the iphone 8, 11, 12 mini, 13 pro max, and 14 pro. I'm currently keeping an eye on iOS 18 and think Apple is moving in a direction that would bring me back, except for 2 features that iOS still doesn't use.: 1. Dedicated back gesture on both sides of the screen that works across every app or a 3-button navigation bar. 2. Android assistant call screening. Not basic call screening where it constantly tells you who is calling, but call screening where you can have you assistant answer answer the call for you and you can read the call between it and the caller in real time and respond as needed. I use that a lot. If Apple added those 2 things to their phones I'd be back on an iPhone in a heart beat, because yes everything you mentioned to justify why you stay on an iPhone except the visual voice mail thing, it absolutely true.

I'll never understand why iOS versus Android is a thing that makes people so weirdly defensive. I mean I had an iPhone for about 3 years as a secondary phone, and while there's a few things I miss I gradually came to the conclusion that iOS just isn't for me, and so traded for the Zfold 5. And that should be fine right? We don't all have to like and use the same thing

I think lots of people allow their sense of who they are get wrapped up in things like the tech they use. When someone says they don't like that tech, they feel personally insulted. I feel like something like that happens to all of us at some point, but it seems to happen more often for some..
