That's how I took apart cylinders back in the late 80's and 90's I was sick of pounding and pulling . The first one scared me because I didn't know what would happen . Drain all the oil out first , long small dia. ones blow farther . I found to put the cylinder back together is grease o rings up good as you put them on and piston good , start piston in barrel , pick up barrel and piston and shaft about a foot and drop together . Big cylinders you could use a crane maybe but cylinder would have to be straight up and down . There has to be a sudden jar to get piston into barrel . Check for burrs on lip of barrel and make sure it is tapered on the barrel .
