Very informative Matt, keep them coming! Didn’t know our 2015 Zoe had the rapid charge motor till I saw this, having only charged at home during lockdown since buying it last June. Ours is due a service imminently, so the anti roll-bar info is worth having, as it’s only done 15.5k miles; also must find out how you scroll the display, didn’t know you could! Lot to learn still 😀

An interesting look around. Interesting that it’s easy to see a lot of crap under the white painted bonnet underneath! Most ICE cars have black ‘matting’ underneath that at least hides a lot of it. Hopefully there are air filters on the intake for the air con! Presumably it uses the radiator for the a/c coolant as well, or it might have an small independent one, like most do? E.g. most petrol hybrids actually have 3 radiators - engine/power electric/air con. What wasn’t clear is where the battery cooling fan air intake is. Sometimes there are long term problems with them becoming clogged with imported rubbish etc, reducing the cooling performance. Also a problem with Hybrid ones (e.g. my Yaris has an underseat air intake for that purpose for the traction battery cooling fan). Worth cleaning under maintenance, no doubt.

When I have more time, I'll do a more in depth video and take all the trays off underneath to get a better look at what is going on underneath.

What is the tube doing on the right side of the motor? Any "convenient" way to drain the coolant?
@GoGreenAutos4 ай бұрын
I've not needed to take one apart, but I think that tube is venting the air from the top of the motor stack to the ground. There looks to be a fan on the top of the motor stack. As for coolant draining, again not done this myself, but there's usually a top on the lower radiator outlet.

Hi, thanks for the informative video. What is that black ducting air intake looking thing above the R motor? I have a Renault ZOE from 2018. There is a lot of noise coming from that black unit when i use the heater.
@GoGreenAutos Жыл бұрын
Its a fan which blows down underneath the vehicle. If you put your head underneath the undertray, you'll see where it vents out.

Not sure if anyone can help? Occasionally we get a loud whirring noise (when accelerating). It usually happens after hitting a bump. It sounds like something not sitting flush in a cog near the motor or front wheels. (or something!) To make it stop we have to stop the car, press the brake hard and then restart the car completely. Any ideas anyone please? Thanks a mil. It didn’t happen as often when we got the suspension refreshed (but still happens).
@GoGreenAutos3 жыл бұрын
The Zoe motor does get loader with age/mileage. But it sounds like this isn't motor whine. You could try changing the oil in the reduction gear (transmission). But if you get it after hitting a bump, it must be suspension linked. I've seen two EVs now with loose wheel hub nuts (probably due to mistakes from past work), so might be worth checking they are tight.

Is that 12v battery not a deep cycle ?
@GoGreenAutos Жыл бұрын
No. Only Tesla do that. All other OEMs just use the same lead acid batteries they use on the ICE vehicles.

Great video, sounds like the anti-roll bars haven't been upgraded to take the heavier weight of EV batteries, only a smallish fix but a bit off-putting tbh..
@GoGreenAutos Жыл бұрын
The (22kWh) battery weight is only 290kg. But of course, there's no gearbox, tank of fuel, etc etc. The whole car is only 1463kg. All modern cars have got heavier, but EVs aren't much heavier than their ICE counterparts. Certainly not as much as most people are let to believe by the press.

The lift was a bit snug against the battery pack and cill. I'd raise the pads a bit next time ☺
@GoGreenAutos4 жыл бұрын
Keen eye. It was but not touching. There's not enough ground clearance on many EVs to get the pad extensions in. Pads raised up as much as possible. I bought this lift because of the extension kit which will allow the arm to miss battery packs, but the trouble is most of the vehicles are too low to get them in there.

All EVs do. Means the main 400V battery can be offline when the car is turned off. So the 12V runs the central locking, starts the ECUs, dash, lights etc etc before the 400V battery kicks in,
