I’m from Meridian. My great grandfather helped build the Threefoot building which is the tallest building in town that you can see from all over the downtown area and clearly seen in the beginning of the video (for those who aren’t familiar). It’s a beautiful art deco building from 1929 with intricate and colorful tile stylized motifs that add to the building’s vibrant aesthetic appeal.

I live in Baton Rouge, La now. i lived about 3 blocks from the Merrehope Property. Did you get to see Meridiam Highschool and the Meridian Comminity College ? I enjoyed the Post. Safe Travels !!

I really enjoyed your tour. I was born not far from Meridian. I briefly lived in Meridian with my parents and aunt about 64 years ago.

@@exotictravelwithrain9504 I used to have an aunt living in Meridian, a registered nurse, and I would visit her. Meridian was the largest city in Mississippi from 1890 to 1920, but was hit hard economically by the Great Depression of the 1930's. By 1930, Jackson had a larger population. For many years Meridian remained the second largest city in Mississippi. It is now the 7th largest city in the state. Mississippi did not have large cities in the first half of the 20th century, but Jackson started growing at a faster rate and finally reached a population of 100,000 in the early 1950's. There used to be more employment opportunities in Meridian, including manufacturing jobs. My maternal grandfather was a farmer and he used to sell his crops in Meridian as did many farmers in the area. He died in 1957. A shopping mall was built in Meridian during the 1970's and it really hurt the businesses in downtown Meridian. My paternal grandparents lived in a small town 25 miles to the south of Meridian. When I would visit them in the 1960's, they would take me with them when they went shopping in Meridian. Many good people, both Black and White, left Mississippi over the years for better opportunities. My own father had to move our family to Atlanta, Georgia after he graduated from Mississippi State University (Starkville) in 1960. I went through Meridian a few years ago when I was visiting from California. It looks like a shell of its former self, sad to say.

Meridian Mississippi. And the rest. Of Mississippi. Is 100 yrs. Behind the rest of the United States. Notheing there.. that’s why I moved back to California. In 2023. After I moved there. In 1997. Because my birth dad asked me to. Bad choice.
