Something is not right Teachers and staff returned from the winter break exhausted and not renewed or rested. After MLK and Tuesday off, we returned tired as well (like defeated, uncertain, or sad). The pressures of teaching, testing, lack of parenting in some cases, childrens' struggles, and financial situations are some reasons. I hope you find joy in your days ahead and figure out what your purpose is. Have a blessed day.

I retired ten years ago after having taught for 35 years. I remember that last year, and I hadn't started it thinking it would be my last. Along about the end of March, we had a staff meeting where we were told about all the new "initiatives" for the coming school year. It was then that it hit me. I simply could not bring myself to come back for another go around and I submitted my intent to retire the very next day. I have to say that retirement has been a new lease on life and when I look back on my teaching years, I honestly don't know if I could do it all over again. The job is just too consuming. I did some volunteering in our local elementary school for a few years before COVID. I was often asked to sub, but I just couldn't bring myself to take that on. Anyway, I understand perfectly how you're feeling. There comes a time when you just know. Best wishes as you navigate a new chapter in your life!

I hate that you don’t feel called to teach anymore BUT as someone coming into teaching I’m excited about the idea of having content like yours! You didn’t ask but for future videos some ideas may be: taking questions from teachers who are struggling and how you handle it! (Parent teacher interaction are stressing me out and I’m not even there yet!) More of your mini lessons! Maybe how a first day of school looks with the kiddos. How to implement procedures with those excited kiddos. Demo calls you make before school starts. I may not have found these yet, but your energy and realness is refreshing. You were my sign that I asked for if this was the right path and you popped up on my KZbin. You are one of the few that hasn’t bad mouthed teaching and that was so refreshing. I think being a coach too for new or struggling teachers would be amazing. I KNOW you have some incredible things in store for the future. Thank you for sharing your love and journey! (PS I’ve never had rice and beans but I may need to get some after that-that looks amazing!!!) lots of love through this funky phase in life. ❤

Hey! We’ve been using HMH for about 3 yrs. At first…we were overwhelmed by the amount of material it had. Amira is questionable…jajaja, but the more the students use it, the more accuracy is obtained. Mind you, I teach dual language…so I use double the resources. It really is overwhelming. I think this year has been less stressful. We might be using the math HMH next year but not sure 😳😳😳…I teach second grade. Don’t blame you for having those feelings. It’s my eighth year in a row and the same motivation is not present as my first five years. We need teachers who are willing to coach or train other teachers in how to cope with daily mental challenges. Times have changed compared to ten years ago. It has its pros and cons, however, teachers need counseling too. We need to speak to ppl who will not judge instead support teachers because every teacher “understands “ what teachers go through, in my opinion. Thank you for your honesty. I pray God will lead you in whatever He desires you to do.❤

I have lunch duty and 2 recess duties with my kids everyday. It’s A LOT. And then I only have 3 planning periods a week. Wednesdays and Fridays I’m with my kiddos the entire day, no breaks. The middle of last year, I came up with a plan to split recess duty with the 3rd-4th grade teacher (I teach 1st-2nd). I watch all our kids for morning recess and she watches all of our kids for afternoon recess. It’s been working out well so that the days I don’t have a planning period, I get a short break. Although, now the music teacher needs us to rotate and come and help her every other week because she can’t handle both of our classes together. 😭 That’s a lot of the reason it’s hard to stay teaching, all the extra stuff like you said.

I’m not sure if your district has any of those but if not with your experience perhaps sitting and having a meeting with administration would be beneficial. Create a business plan sort of and discuss the idea of teaching kids about kindness, etc. emotional health is just as important if not more important. ❤ I believe her title was Positive School Climate Liason. The kids loved to see her coming because she would come with prizes if they earned kindness cards from teachers for acts of kindness. I have thought about teaching or even coaching online. Many ((HUGS))

It's hard for alot of seasoned teachers right now. Since you love teaching kindness have you thought of becoming a counselor?
@OneFABTeacher9 ай бұрын
Yes, I have. However, where I am counseling in elementary doesn't seem to be quite the same. ((HUGS))

We do lunch then recess. The timeframe we have been is from 9:55 - 10:40.

I wish my school had recess, because students really need that time to run play and a break.

Hey Miss May I have been teaching special education for 16 years and I’m getting more and more tired even though I still love being a teacher and I love ❤❤ my students but it’s wearing me out

What does partner teaching look like in your class? What are the benefits and challenges?
@OneFABTeacher9 ай бұрын
She's just my partner teacher. Meaning she's right next to me and we alternate things between us. ((HUGS))

Recess and then lunch. This is the first year, though! I think I like this better. Less vomiting on the playground, now! 😏 Yes, we are HMH. Third or fourth year. Don't really like it. The stories are too darn long and the assessments ask questions that are too wordy for the kiddos. They do a much better job if we print them out, but the district wants a few a month digitally.

Me Too!!!😢😢so tired. I thought it was just me. For me it’s year 14.

We use HMH Math (Into Math). Do you use this math curriculum?

Rumor has it, that we will be using HMH Math next school year. Do you like it? ((HUGS))
@latoyagriffith96488 ай бұрын
HMH math is okay but not great at all. It can be very wordy to the point that kids don't understand what's being asked of them.

Yes, but I know longer desire that anymore. ((HUGS))

Miss May, I am on year 4 and I don’t know if I love it the way I used to love it either. I have been feeling “blah” since we started. It’s not the kids, I love the kids. My babies give me the strength to keep coming back. ❤️🩹 I’ve been thinking about moving to a different state to see if I can find my spark again.
@OneFABTeacher9 ай бұрын
Yes, those babies keep us coming back. Moving to Texas 19 years ago, was the BEST decision I could've made. Sending you ((HUGS))

@@OneFABTeacher I’ve been looking in Dallas. The pay is way better compared to AZ. It’s hard doing so much work before and after school and only making 50k a year.
