I find the "audiobooks don't count" argument ridiculous. Books are a form of telling stories. We, human beings, have been telling stories since we have learned how to communicate, as opposed to reading them which was popularized only after invention of printing press a few centuries ago...

Indeed! I think the emphasis on «no AudioBooks» in this challenge is hilarious.

You raise a good point that I never thought of… Memoirs are kind of like self-help books as you can learn a lot from them! 👍🏻

All the self-help books I've read after various people have recommended have told me to meditate. All of them. They were recommended by many different people. So, I'm starting to believe in the one book theory that the "If Books Could Kill" podcast has proposed.

Haha, those books seem to be even more narrow than the ones I talk about. I am not familiar with that podcast but reading about it now it seems like it could be fun to listen to!

The truest so-called self help I know is Anthony de Mello. Awareness and Sadana are my favorites. Not really self-help, how to pray and meditate I more like it, how to look and listen and transcend thought.

Self -help books have the same advice over and over again, I think. As the 'save money/energi'advices each year on NRK😄

Yes, and still they sell a lot of them 😅

That challenge is so problematic... Sounds both fatphobic and ableist. Self help books are still pretty popular still, though.

I am pretty sure I wouldn´t have joined this challenge at least.. Oh yes, they still sell a lot..!

I read a lot of non-fiction about true crime, sects, war criminals and their crimes, so you can imagine how sick my algorithm is, luckily non-fiction saves the situation a bit, algorithms are terrifying and lock us in bubbles

Oh yes, that last statement is definitely true. Each time I look at someone elses youtube feed I feel like I am in a different universe.. It´s fascinating and a bit scary.

Love a good messy rant! I might have one coming back at ya! 😅 First of all: I’m 100% with you on audiobooks being great, and no one should feel pressure to change themselves or follow someone else’s rules - if they don’t want to! I do think this particular challenge, the 75 hard, is a lot about discipline. And I think the reading part has to do with focus or making the time for yourself in a way, without multitasking. I think it’s so easy to do something else while listening to an audiobook and maybe the point here is to just focus on the reading, as a way to strengthen your discipline. I also think the point is to learn things, and then nonfiction would be better than fiction, depending on what you think learning is. So as much as it is a beefy guy selling cars-kind of challenge 😂 I think people have a choice to do it or not. No one is saying that is the only way to learn or become more fit, but it’s a particular challenge with a particular set of rules. If you want other rules, make other rules! 😊 Also, I can’t help but note you said “bikini ready” which is another kind of infuriating phrase. I think you said it sarcastically, I just have to say I hate it 😊 As for the algorithm, my feed is mostly books, cats, and improvised west coast swing at the moment, with a touch of Barbara’s rabarberbar. 😂 Click on some new things!

I do think I get what they are trying to achieve, but it seems so primal the whole thing. Of course you have to dumb it down to make it social media friendly but "read a physical book" for readings sake is weird but in line with what I expect from something like that. Would be interesting to see top 5 books for the group that does participate in that challenge though! Bikini ready sure is a stupid expression and I feel like it almost couldn´t be used withour sarcasm.. It seems I have to find a topic and just go to town with my clicks.. But the things I get in my feed sure are interesting..
