When Moses came down from the mountain with the ten commandments and saw they had made a golden calf to worship, the punishment was for the tribe of Levi to go into each of the tents and kill a brother or a friend and they killed 3,000 of their own tribe that day. Talk about honoring the command to not kill, and then ask them to kill, so crazy.

Nice show guys and I've subscribed. If shows on these topics have not been done, I would like to suggest future shows on "Whether the teaching of religion to children qualifies as child abuse." Another show suggestion would be a show on the many good books published on the subject of atheism, bible history, non-belief, etc. I have a few I would like to recommend if a show is done on the topic of if other members of the community might be interested in reading non-fiction enlightening literature. They are: 1) An Atheist's View of Reality - by Alex Rosenberg 2) The Transcendental Temptation - by Paul Kurtz 3) The God Delusion - by Richard Dawkins 4) The End of Faith & Letter to a Christian Nation - both by Sam Harris, and one of my favorites 5) God is Not Great - by Christopher Hitchens and a host of many others that other viewers could share with the community. Shows like this contribute to keeping one's critical thinking and reasoning skills ever sharp and are part of the resistance to the scourge of religion and its deleterious effects on society, so keep up the good work folks!
@vidyanandbapat80322 жыл бұрын
Teaching religion to children should certainly be considered as child abuse. Teaching them to pray to or worship a non-existent whatever must be a serious crime, a felony. As children, they should be taught only science. Once they become adults, they can study a religion or many religions if they want to and can also decide to follow one or many, whatever it may mean, if they want to.

For several years now, I have been "doing battle" with dyed-in-the-wool believers on the internet. This really helps me. I have 2 of Dans books and slowly the impact of my religious life is improving. I was mentality ill due to catholicism then converting to protestantism. I thought God wanted me to kill myself for sinning. I thought I was pregnant with God's baby. I was zealous with both beliefs, with whatever i believed about God. I am still fighting the effects of my upbringing from my family. A mother an ex nun a father ex priest or almost nun and preist who let my oldest brother molest 3 of us 15 children and all of them labeled me the evil and selfish one. I was like this for over 45 years of my life. I became a respiratory therapist and the used me for my money as i experienced breakdown after breakdown trying to be "unselfish ". My mother said incest was ok because it started with genesis and adanm and eve's children. I fight to become bold and true tto myself, fearlessly still. Also one of the churches i attended was full of my ex fellow mental hopitalized patients. Many i learned become mentally ill from the Bible and religion not just me. I don't call myself an atheist but I benefit from believing that people must look into ourselves for guidance. I reject the bible and religion. I wish I could help people too and get bold enough to.

It would seem that this entity is both good and evil and doesn't care about life here on earth. Curious, would you make a distinction between Public Property like a City or County Park vs Government Property like Court Houses and other Govt Building. One could argue that Parks (as an example) represent the people's space, where are govt property represents the Govt. If Public Parks are consider a reflection of the people distinct from the Govt, then religion should be allow on Public Property. However, it would have to reflect all of the Public. Within reason, Hindu and Buddhist should also be allowed to erect public monuments as well as Atheist ed monuments.

FFRF -- please consider producing a feature-length dramatic film based on the incidents in the life of Vashti McCollum, subject of the Peabody Award-winning documentary The Lord is Not on Trial Here Today. her courageous efforts led to such an important SCOTUS decision, and she persevered in the face of a torrent of hatred, threats and ostracism, along with her supportive husband and three sons. it is an inspiring story and would make "good copy," besides. according to TopDocumentaryFilms.com: "The case is little-known by the contemporary American public, yet the McCollum decision continues to have important ramifications for current conflicts over the role of religion in public institutions - from displays of the Ten Commandments in government buildings to student-led prayers at public school graduation ceremonies." i can't think of anything that would be more timely. besides, we atheists need a film worth watching, in addition to The Man From Earth, e.g.
