Hey everyone! Firstly, thanks so much for all the love on this. I was super nervous about posting and sharing, because I really want people to take it as intended and I would never want to cause any offence with it. So yay, thanks again for all the support, it means a lot. Secondly, a common thing I'm seeing is people asking about the arousal study and if I separated trans men based on whether they had started testosterone or not. Basically, finding trans men to take part was super difficult, and pre-T trans men were more hesitant (likely for obvious reasons), and out of the 25 trans men that took part, 5 had not started testosterone. This was not enough of a sample size to properly look into differences in those who had or had not started testosterone, but just from some initial analyses those who were not on T did also seem to follow the same pattern as those were on T. But obviously there's not enough data here yet to make any solid conclusions.

As a cis med student this is so interesting to me. Those 'former husbands' coming out as 'lesbians' are not lesbian, because they are not female homosexuals. They are males who have fantasies of being a woman, after they dump a kid on the woman they've been married to for however many years. Those 'trans lesbians' were *always* men. Them popping estrogen pills and wearing spinny skirts doesn't make them women. I've seen enough of their confessions to know that it's all a sexual fetish to them. "We are not forcing you to date trans people" you say, while saying that if we *don't* see you as *real* men/women, we're transphobic.

When people say "basic biology" referring to the biology they learned in early school years, they don't realise that that biology has been simplified to the point where it is inaccurate. (Btw, if you don't want to super involved with an argument about whether trans women are women, vice versa, don't go into the replies.)
@iris54033 жыл бұрын
And also oftentimes this simplified biology doesn't support their claims anyway. Like I remember learning about intersex chromosomal pairings in middle school and high school biology but STILL they use the "there is only XX and XY" to 'prove' their point. Not only does sex not equal gender (although a lot of the time they do match up, but not for everyone) but there are more chromosomal pairs than just XX and XY...

I am so glad this was all put into a paper and into scientific wording, because the topics these findings cover do align with my experience as a trans man. I have preferred and understood social concepts, arousal factors, etc that "are for men" better than those that "are for women" I was forced to present overly feminine by my mother growing up, but even then my peers could not definitely determine "what I was" or what was "in my pants" even with secondary characteristics of "a girl/woman" I genuinely went into a harsh depression around that time because I desperately wanted to be like the guys in the media, because if I held myself to female beauty standards I would wish to no longer live. While I am becoming more comfortable with my body, i still long for transitioning. I will continue hoping to start physically one day, because what I have seen in many transition stories is what I hope for. I have hope and one day will have the funds to be what I've longed to be: a very beautiful man. And this video makes me more hopeful. Thank you, Jamie. Funny that the science often becomes irrelevant when the time comes to go into a building of worship to confer with certain imaginary giants with long white beards who walk around squeezing clouds like sponges to make it rain (etc)... The difference between gender and (genetic) sex is roughly commensurate with the difference between astrology and astronomy. One is social and (possibly) fun and it is totally your choice how seriously to take it (but if you do take it seriously don't presume you can tell other people how to take it seriously... or that //chromosomally male women/chinese horoscopes// aren't scientific and are therefore completely bunk when you are totally into //traditional gender 'rules'/western horoscopes//! The other is science, but like most science, is unlikely to be important in your day-to-day dealings.

The first thing you learn in scientific research is to define your terms. It’s very sad that disciplines like this allow students to become doctors with such little rigor. There is a reason the bug hoax was so successful.. researchers presenting nonsense papers full of buzz words almost all got published AS LONG AS they were in line with the gender ideology narrative.

I can cite this thesis of yours to backup my believe that getting too surgery will be better for me mentally than not and that my dysphoria does have an impact on me that is disproportionate to the effect of other things cus people deal with (which I deal with too, on top of my dysphoria). Maybe I can show this to my dad and it'll help? His concerns are mainly faith based, but maybe showing him the science rather than talking about it would be better. I want to ask my therapist's boss (who would have to write my top surgery letter, as my therapist doesn't have her license right now, and her boss does) to read your thesis. Maybe that will help her be more sure that approving me for top surgery is the right decision. Thank you for giving me and many other trans people the science to back themselves up. Please do more research like this into other gender identities (I'd really especially love seeing you tackle non-binary trans people after going for trans women) and share it with us. This is amazing. To show that there does seem to be a correlation between gender identity and biological function is HUGE. And that it doesn't have to do with how far along someone is in transition???? Dude, this is amazing. This could lead to us proving that, in a way, trans men are biologically men, trans women are biologically women, and trans enbies are biologically enbies. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@@NyoomMonster is brain surgery cosmetic surgery ?????? Or are they the same in your mind ??? Twisted
@NyoomMonster2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanthomas9306 ? Sex reassignment surgery isn't brain surgery. And gender identity is not cosmetic. Gender identity disorder is a condition that can lead to depression, anxiety, PTSD, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. Suicide occurs in about 50% of transgender people, at least the ones who told someone/left evidence after they did so. We don't know how many trans people who aren't out or don't even understand what's wrong with them commit suicide, but the rate is also likely high. An estimated 1% of trans people who transition, whether that be medical, social, or both detransition, and a recent study authored by Fenway Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) found that about 82.5% of detransitioners did so because of abuse, lack of support, social stigma, discrimination, and vulnerability to sexual and physical assault, not because it didn't allieviate gender identity disorder symptoms. Identifying as transgender is not attention seeking or a reach to find a fix for one's problems. It's a health condition, in which the only treatment is therapy, socially "acting" as that person's gender and being treated as such by society, and medical care like hormone treatment and surgeries. Trans people are intensely aware of their biological sex and that it won't change regardless of medical care, but the symptoms are still alleviated by this care. It's the same as someone having chronic pain. They are aware they may always have a condition that puts them in pain, but medication for that pain still helps them function in life. Medical transition is only considered when gender identity disorder impairs the individual's functioning so much that it becomes dangerous for their health/a hindrance to living a functional life. This is when it becomes a disability. It is a LAST RESORT. It just so happens that a lot of cases of transgender identity disorder are severe, or at least the ones the general public hears about. Transition medical treatment is not "cosmetic"

I'm a trans boy and I remember a few things that maybe should have tipped me off that I wasnt a cis girl earlier. I never had a lot of friends so when I was between like 4-9 I'd spend a lot of time just running around the garden by myself, coming up with stories and adventures like that I was a scientist or a magician or whatever. But one of these scenarios was literally just... me being a man. There was nothing more to it, I'd just imagine to go to work, drive home, cook dinner, have a dog but all while being a man. And it's so funny to look at in retrospect because that's certainly some fucking foreshadowing. Also when I was 11/12 I was obsessed with watching ftm transitioning videos on yt. I remember thinking to myself something like: "haha wouldn't it be kind of cool to be a guy. Of COURSE I'm not because I'm DEFINITELY a girl but wouldn't it be kinda nice?? Then I could have a boy's name and wear boy's clothes and everyone would see me as a boy and I think I'd like that. Well anyways, going back to living my completely cis girl life :)" HOW DID I NOT REALIZE I WAS TRANS Even when I first had dysphoria when I started puberty I coudn't tell what it was. I knew I felt weird with my body and felt odd looking into the mirror after showering BUT SOMEHOW I DID NOT MAKE THE FUCKING CONNECTION. Is there any way for me to access the actual paper? I just came out as FtM, and it seems like the perfect thing to show my family (they want to learn more before letting me do anything).

Here's an interesting tidbit for you. A while ago I realised that I was getting more severe symptoms related to my ADHD. I wasn't sure of the exact reason, but part of it is related to trauma responses and C-PTSD, but it's also related to myself having transitioned. Turns out, ADHD symptoms often get WORSE when someone comes out of trauma or depression etc., and since I started transitioning my ADHD symptoms have slowely been ramping up in part from transition, and in part from resolving some of my other trauma issues. I also can look back at some things I did, even as an adult, that were entirely male, but I was AFAB, so were really strange for me to do. I was called a tomboy in my youth, and never shook it. I'm happier now, as a disabled trans guy unable to work than I was pursuing a career in Education, which I loved.

i’m so proud of you, dr. jamie! i personally found your studies very interesting and i learned a lot. i’m agender afab so none of this really pertained to me, but i still enjoyed listening to your research and it made me so happy listening to how happy you sounded sharing this with the world. good job!

The coolest part about the arousal research to me is that I would have guessed that socialisation may play a role in the evidence showing cis women becoming aroused to images of both (cis) men and women but assuming that trans men would have also been socialised in a similar way (before transitioning) it really shows that something else is going on! Facinating! I hope you do more vids about research

Jammi! Your research is wonderful! We love what you do for the world. As a CIS woman, I enjoy learning about the world around me and understanding all that inhabit it. I do hafta say that your research made PERFECT sense with what I would expect the results to be. Good stuff. Keep being awesome! Keep being you!

I love this so much! I'm a trans guy, so to be honest, most of it sounded about right in application to my and (to my knowledge) my fellow trans masc friends' experiences, but it's so cool to have this out there to explain to those who might not understand just yet.

I think it's cool,it's great that you found biological proof of gender identity. This should, hopefully,be a big step in proving transphobic views wrong and eliminating transphobia

Thank you for working so hard to advance our knowledge of transgender science! As someone who’s conducted human research studies in a PhD program, I know how difficult it is and how much work it takes to get these studies running and to find participants and funding. I sincerely hope that you or someone else in the field will continue to explore these topics scientifically. The world needs this research! ❤️

As a current psychology PhD candidate it is a joy to finally hear about your research. I'd love to hear you discuss research in the future as well, whether it is your own or more of a lit review kind of thing. I aspire to one day present my own work in such a clear, concise and respectful manner. Great job and congrats!

Always enjoy a boost from the comments. You reminded me of Anton Petrov (science channel), who always addresses his viewers as "wonderful person," and even designed a shirt saying that. He's another content creator that can bring me a smile. 😸💜
