This is the strangest thing in the world, but I am SURE that those were my tapes. I would have been about 11 in 1997 and I routinely recorded stuff like this on various tapes. Not only is that my handwriting, but I distinctly remember writing the capital A in "various" and always being bothered by it. Some years ago my mother donated all of our old cassettes. I am blown away by the odds of seeing this! Crazy!
@diablo_guapo2 жыл бұрын
I had the exact same experience when I saw those tapes. Looks exactly like my handwriting, and I vividly recall the capital A. A very, very surreal experience. Maybe some sort of Mandela effect phenomenon? Or maybe there were a bunch of us obsessive VHS recorders with the same handwriting and capitalization errors. Hopefully Ian will review the vArious tape soon and give more clues. If I could just see a commercial or bumper with some sort of station identification, it would help set my mind to rest. If I can positively ID these as being from no place I ever lived, I'll know my brain was just playing tricks.
@karow.thomas2 жыл бұрын
@@diablo_guapo You know, I was thinking the same thing. I don't know how many commercials might've been local on these cartoons. The ones Ian covered were always on nonstop, so I'm sure everyone in the country was brainwashed by them. Either way I got the experience of a sudden sharp memory activation when watching this. I really can't describe how strange it is to have a sudden unprompted activation of memories I didn't even know I still had, but it was definitely far more than I bargained for when casually watching a KZbin video after work. If you got the same then I'd say we both came out ahead on this!

I was a genuine Beetleborgs nut as a kid. Basically, Shadowborg stole their ability to borg (morphing in this series) but they still retained their non-transformed powers. So they get help from another kid, give him the ability to borg, he gets their powers back, etc. The blue guy is a magical phasm they accidentally freed from the pipe organ, and his name is Flabber. Really silly show but it was a lot of fun when you're not very old yet. Edit: Also I actually still have a large portion of the Shadowborg saga taped from when it aired on Fox Kids...somewhere. And a lot of Digimon from when it aired a few years later. I taped a lot of tv. Makes me wonder what kind of ads are on those tapes, lol.

5:30 Ian, the Green Goblin literally says the same thing in the Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies. That's not the show or the movie's writing, that's just how cheesy Spider-Man was in the silver age, which is what both the 90s show and the 2000s movies are based on (in the case of the movies, often down al the way to shot composition since Sam Rami based it on the comics he read growing up). This is gonna sound wild, but I think I might be the original recorder of Miscellaneous and VArious. I was big into recording TV shows on VHS in the late 90s, random nonhelpful labels were my go-to naming convention, and that looks EXACTLY like young me's handwriting - right down to the weird capital A in VArious. Last I knew, those tapes and several drawerfuls more were just sitting in my parents' basement several states away, and they never threw anything out. But as soon as I saw those labels, I had a vivid flashback of writing them. So I'm mildly freaking out right now. There's a quick way to prove my possibly lying memories wrong, tho. Ian, if you ever see this comment, do those tapes have any commercials or bumpers indicating they were recorded from a Milwaukee station by chance?

Yay another one I have been going through my old vhs tapes as well and uploading commercials as shorts. It's alot of fun to see what all are on mystery tapes.

I had to watch this twice to see if I missed MJ hanging out in the background anywhere 🐈⬛

This show gives me nostalgia for a time I wasn't alive for.

The nostalgia in this video is palpable! Seeing some of these commercials, Spiderman, and Beetleborgs teleported me back to a five year old watching cartoons again. I almost forgot about Beetleborgs, I loved that show as a kid and even had some of their toys. If only we could go back in time just to experience those great childhood moments again. ^__^

The plastic sleeve makes me think of the dust covers that came on NES cartridges.

Oh my gosh, I owned the new born baby checkup kit as a child and I had no idea where it came from or what it was since the sticker was missing off the front. Thank you Brutalmoose for letting me know what that weird little doctor kit was all about.

Ian, I was age 9-19 in the 1990's, & I could watch a new Mystery Tapes literally every week. Or every day, for that matter. Long live this series, & long live the 90's!

Bizarrely I remember that exact episode of Casper despite not seeing it since probably 1997... for me growing up in the 90s cartoon Spiderman was Spiderman, the movie Spiderman always seemed silly and weak and a bit wussy, Spiderman was like a proper adult kind of guy in the cartoons and it all seemed more grown up to my addled kid mind. Miss the 90s though, will have to dig out my old CBBC and CITV tapes to relieve grainy Duck Tales and Thomas the Tank Engine episodes. Keep up the good work Mr Moose!

Watching these while falling asleep teleports me back to the early 2000's with the Tv on. Soothing.

Man, I miss how sometimes I’d just let the tape run out when you knew you only had a few minutes left. I love the blip of a different show as well, a bunch of movies taped off of the TV in my home had that happen, if you were lucky it was within the adverts! It usually happens when someone accidentally press the record button, but realises it right away, and presses stop again, like if you forgot to fast forward to the end of a half used tape.

Wow, I had completely forgotten that I had a mystery VHS tape of my own when I was a kid, and it was Beetleborgs! I'd never heard the name of that show until today but I definitely have seen it before and forgot. Thanks for the memory unlock.

Bro there’s absolutely no way this is a coincidence, I haven’t watched brutalmoose in for freaking ever and literally today I decided to search him up and watched 2 of his half hour long VHS tapes videos and then he uploads a new vhs video a few hours later😅
