This is the strangest thing in the world, but I am SURE that those were my tapes. I would have been about 11 in 1997 and I routinely recorded stuff like this on various tapes. Not only is that my handwriting, but I distinctly remember writing the capital A in "various" and always being bothered by it. Some years ago my mother donated all of our old cassettes. I am blown away by the odds of seeing this! Crazy!
@diablo_guapo
@diablo_guapo Жыл бұрын
I had the exact same experience when I saw those tapes. Looks exactly like my handwriting, and I vividly recall the capital A. A very, very surreal experience. Maybe some sort of Mandela effect phenomenon? Or maybe there were a bunch of us obsessive VHS recorders with the same handwriting and capitalization errors. Hopefully Ian will review the vArious tape soon and give more clues. If I could just see a commercial or bumper with some sort of station identification, it would help set my mind to rest. If I can positively ID these as being from no place I ever lived, I'll know my brain was just playing tricks.
@karow.thomas
@karow.thomas Жыл бұрын
@@diablo_guapo You know, I was thinking the same thing. I don't know how many commercials might've been local on these cartoons. The ones Ian covered were always on nonstop, so I'm sure everyone in the country was brainwashed by them. Either way I got the experience of a sudden sharp memory activation when watching this. I really can't describe how strange it is to have a sudden unprompted activation of memories I didn't even know I still had, but it was definitely far more than I bargained for when casually watching a KZbin video after work. If you got the same then I'd say we both came out ahead on this!

5:30 Ian, the Green Goblin literally says the same thing in the Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies. That's not the show or the movie's writing, that's just how cheesy Spider-Man was in the silver age, which is what both the 90s show and the 2000s movies are based on (in the case of the movies, often down al the way to shot composition since Sam Rami based it on the comics he read growing up). Spider-Man is absolute cheese-wiz, and that's part of the charm.

I was a genuine Beetleborgs nut as a kid. Basically, Shadowborg stole their ability to borg (morphing in this series) but they still retained their non-transformed powers. So they get help from another kid, give him the ability to borg, he gets their powers back, etc. The blue guy is a magical phasm they accidentally freed from the pipe organ, and his name is Flabber. Really silly show but it was a lot of fun when you're not very old yet. Edit: Also I actually still have a large portion of the Shadowborg saga taped from when it aired on Fox Kids...somewhere. And a lot of Digimon from when it aired a few years later. I taped a lot of tv. Makes me wonder what kind of ads are on those tapes, lol.

This is gonna sound wild, but I think I might be the original recorder of Miscellaneous and VArious. I was big into recording TV shows on VHS in the late 90s, random nonhelpful labels were my go-to naming convention, and that looks EXACTLY like young me's handwriting - right down to the weird capital A in VArious. Last I knew, those tapes and several drawerfuls more were just sitting in my parents' basement several states away, and they never threw anything out. But as soon as I saw those labels, I had a vivid flashback of writing them. So I'm mildly freaking out right now. There's a quick way to prove my possibly lying memories wrong, tho. Ian, if you ever see this comment, do those tapes have any commercials or bumpers indicating they were recorded from a Milwaukee station by chance?

Speaking of commercials depending on the broadcast being viewed takes me back to when I was growing up, and didn't yet understand the concept of commercials being partially based on that criteria. I distinctly remember when I first started regularly watching more adult-oriented programs, and being confused why television didn't advertise things like toys, and board games during commercial breaks like when I was younger.

8:11 this is the same royalty-free sound effect used in pizza tower and it's also been a very long while ever since an old Goofy cartoon with the cowboys and indians. And oh my goodness, those old capri-sun commercials caught my memory.

I TOTALLY remember that Tyco Rebound as a kid! I remember I did get one for Christmas that year and it lasted me for years! That thing was indestructible! I had for probably 10 years or more till the battery finally stopped taking charges and replacement batteries weren’t sold anymore.Best toy I ever got as a kid! Great video Ian! :D

15:55 I always enjoy those half-peeled-off stickers: they tell you the story of a kid who is now older and tried to get rid of something about their childhood to show how much of a grown-up they are, but gave up halfway. "Eh screw it, adulthood isn't worth all this effort."

Man, I miss how sometimes I’d just let the tape run out when you knew you only had a few minutes left. I love the blip of a different show as well, a bunch of movies taped off of the TV in my home had that happen, if you were lucky it was within the adverts! It usually happens when someone accidentally press the record button, but realises it right away, and presses stop again, like if you forgot to fast forward to the end of a half used tape.

Just about the time I think of Brutalmoose, a video gets uploaded without fail. Loved this video, and love your content!

It's hilarious and entertaining at the same time 😉👍 Plus, i remembered The Beetleborgs as they were created by Saban, the same company who created Power Rangers (One of my all time favorite TV shows). Plus, Power Rangers Zeo was awesome!🤘 😎🤟

The pain of knowing exactly what episode of eerie Indiana that was and knowing what an ABSOLUTE BANGER it was. I found that show at my small hometown library and obsessed over the whole collection as a kid, including the unreleased episode that was too dark even for its TV-Y7 audience. I also fondly remember an episode where moms were sealing their kids in giant Tupperware to keep them young forever

The Zzzand is just kinetic sand. I had never heard of this name, but in my middle childhood (2002-2006), they must've rebranded it as Moon Sand. Same exact product, but despite the lunar name, the marketing was much less space themed. You can buy kinetic sand online easily, though I have no idea what it will be named, or why it was ever advertised gallactically.

I was 100% guilty of putting vague labeling on tapes like "miscellanious" and "various". Somehow I still remembered what was on all of them...in order! And oh those commercials...those kids were always over the top losing the mind at everything their toys did. I remember noticing this as an actual kid.

That saban thing that plays at the end always creeped me out... mostly because it would play after Goosebumps finished... and the tv would always be the last bit of light left in the room... after that... Complete darkness!

"I bet this show produced a lot of little weirdos". I can attest to that. I am one of those weirdos. This show is so bad, but so fun. And, to answer your question, the blue-faced guy is a phantasm who gave the kids their powers in return for freeing him from a pipe organ, and his name is Flabber. I actually have a Flabber doll (though he sadly doesn't talk anymore).
