I think the first questioner conflated big/little achievements or tasks with more/less important values. One can advance the most important of values through the simplest of actions. Life (our highest value) can be promoted by eating a meal, or honesty by saying a sentence that is true. Or conversely, less fundamentally important or optional values can be promoted through long-range, difficult tasks like strength training, or learning to play an instrument. OR, of course, any other combination of the above... big tasks can promote important values and simple actions can promote less important values.

25 minutes in a whole bunch of nothing. Spends more time talking about alturism. I came to learn about self interest. Like going to a lecture on judasim and learning instead about hinduism. Im going to persist but its against my self interest.

This is a sermon closely following the Christian model. It goes like Slogan, Statement, Statement, cute quote from a literary work, generalization, and again Slogan, Statement... The word reason is quite often said, yet no trace of reason, just keyword dropping to the choir. A wasted hour waiting for some reasoning.

I'm less than 5 minutes in and it's pretty clear you're full of shit. Your indictment of her is clearly applicable to your own nonsense.

So you're saying you wasted an hour of your time listening to it so you could write this comment? If you disagreed with it then why did you continue listening beyond a certain point? This seems bizarre to me, especially if you are claiming to be rational, since reason implies purpose and wasting your time is pointless.

Like a sermon this attempting to convince towards a moral notion or conviction, that Dr. Smith clearly agrees with and finds valuable. Since the motivation and purpose is similar to a religious sermon, it's not surprising that there are similar traits. It has no bearing on the validity of the speech.

Did you miss that altruism is destroying the world? Did you miss that it takes effort to achieve anybody's interest, and that a breach between actor and benefactor constitutes an injustice?
