I got into cinematography through a channel called Wandering DP, who did lighting breakdowns of high production value commercials. Unfortunately he barely uploads anymore but i could see you fill that niche quite well

Still enjoy Patricks breakdowns, think he is still doing more on patreon? Did you ever watch any of the Cinematography database breakdowns?

The night scenes from "Black Narcissus" (1947) from Powell & Pressburger are astonishing. A comparison between the lighting style in Suspiria (1977) by Dario Argento and its remake (2018) would be very interesting.

It would be great if you could break down some music videos as well. (A lot of them are basically shot as short films) I like watching a lot of Calvin Harris’s music videos, like the song “potion”. You could analyze Tyler the Creator’s music videos too.

These could be good almost reaction videos as there much shorter than a TV series or film... kind of reacting and analysing on first impressions...

I've always wondered how they lit the movie Heat...brilliant movie in almost every way. Also super interested in breaking down Chinatown with it's use of harsh light and shadows.

Hi, thank you for all your good content ! I was thinking about your idea of comparaison between lords of the rings movies and series. And I think a second comparaison between lords of the rings and with GOT house of the dragon can be very good too : How to approach fantasy in two tv big budget streaming service series !

Good call, watching both at the moment and the feel is very different!

Thanks for this, Dale. Bridge of Spies would be a good one for high budget. Always loved the halation in that. Better Call Saul would be a bad one but a good learning experience. Not a fan of these Netflix shows having external lighting but no one can be bothered to switch on interior lights. I’m willing to bet they wrote that into the plot of BCS due to time and budget constraints. When you go over LotR, it would be great if you talked about Peter Doyle and his involvement in the DI process. He’s also an amazing Colour Supervisor/Colourist.

It is interesting to think of the shift in lighting that has happened due to 'TV' budgets and the expectation of something more cinematic, combined with the constantly evolving technology.... Will try and work some of these in!

I'm interested in documentary lighting. Usually using what is available naturally, and mostly daylight. How to make it look nice when run and gun

Love some Fincher! Would be interesting to look at these as I know he used kino flos a lot back in the day and for many years they were my go to lighting.

Old school, be interesting to hit up some older films that would have been shot in a completely different way in terms of cameras and lighting available at the time.
