WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY FISHPOND?
This was a beautiful dream of mine in Cateel, Davao Oriental, Philippines. It didn't work out the first five times. External factors made it very difficult.
So what should I do next?
My first visit to Cateel in over half a year - let's enjoy too!

I know that so many of you started watching my journey from the time that I was really struggling with the fishpond, and that so many of you would love to see it succeed. But unfortunately, now is not the time. I am not ready. I have to let it standby for a while. I'll be totally honest with you about this that I don't know if or when I will be able to do something here again. I don't know what the future holds, but that's ok!

The problems since I watched from the start till this, are your personnel. Try to hire professional employees with agricultural knowledge, especially in fisheries. Form 5 person 1 professional, 1 person who you trust for audit, and 3 who are for the hard work job parts.

Find a local partner to operate the fishpond, it's like a contract grower, they themselves will protect the pond and does not require much of your time, study the details from known operators, I think this set up will work

KD, it doesn't seem like it has been so long since you last visited Cateel - even with all the things you've been so busy with and done in the past 10 months. It was good to see that you are able to traverse the road to Cateel without suffering from debilitating anxiety. The road to healing has been so rewarding for you. Congratulations! Keep the healing strong. Maybe you can turn your fishpond bahay into an air-bnb until you're ready to start up the fishpond again or turn it into something else.

I am an industrial fisherman and have been fishing all my life. I know that breeding fish in freshwater ponds is much more difficult than breeding fish in sea water. Fresh water is not very stable, depending on the amount of precipitation and the water that feeds the pond. But I wish you success in growing telapia - it can live without water for some time buried in silt.

Kumander, you should at least plant grasses in your fishpond. That way, it will prevent soil erosion. You should integrate small ruminants in your calamansi plantation and fishpond. This way, you can easily manage the grass and not always cut it using grass cutter.

Hi @KumanderDaot, I wonder if you will consider turning your fish pond into an itik farm (balut /salted egg). Though, there is a need to restructure and conduct a thorough study about the balut production industry in your area. Balut is very popular and has been a significant part of Filipino culture. I am pretty sure if you vlog the process from scratch, thousands of viewers are really keen to learn about the steps and follow your new venture.

Make a few "Bahay kubo" and make your fishpond a resort. Put some bangus (not for fishpond) for tourists to fish - eat fresh fish - crabs - shrimp - oysters. Sell it ! Rent it ! Leave it the way it is - make it your life rejuvenation area. Make it your life reflection - a place where you can relax -solitude - re-boot. Mangroves are full of life, Life starts at the mangrove therefore life begins with you as species of the mangroves.

You could turn the fishpond into an eco-tourism operation with a smaller pond, where people can stay there, rent wee cottages or provide some camping ground, and basically catch their food from the pond, then go kayaking to explore the beautiful area. More people need to appreciate the beauty of nature, and that place you got there is perfect for it. The larger pond you could plant with mangroves: that will attract other marine life, and it would just be beautiful. Would also allow you to sell seedlings :)

With entrance fee. Every fish they caught, they should pay it per kilo. Show them how do the process of farming. You have more income aside from selling to the market. Make it educational touristy farming place. I’m originally there in Davao oriental. You already visited banaybanay my hometown. I like the idea of fish farming and agri farming here.
