You know, I wasn't going to film the harvest. Then I wasn't going to film at all the next day, because I was so down about the whole situation. But then I did a U-turn, filmed the shot on the bridge, and continued to make a story. And in terms of videography, this is probably my favourite vlog so far. I've also noticed a few comments are back saying I should change my name as it is "attracting bad luck". Well I honestly wish it was that simple. I have had good luck as Kumander Daot (I mean, look at this channel), I had bad luck when I was much more positive, and I'd say that focusing on my name as if it is the cause of this is actually harmful because it is ignoring the real problems. This is a much more complicated situation than just my name. Also - I wouldn't feel comfortable calling myself Kumander Daog/Swerte/something "positive". It sounds like I am trying too hard, almost arrogant on my part...

Daot indeed... There are some positives, though. You got 55k subscribers incredibly fast!! To give some perspective: I have made 200 videos and just got over 1000 lol. KZbin could definitely be a great pivoting point. I lived on an island in Asia for five years, and I bought a business there as an outsider... I have lived through all of that already, and even though I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I now have priceless experience that other people don't have. I barely survived actually- but those terrible times led me to my career. All of the hard times in my life have contributed to my success. Sometimes you can only notice in hindsight. Now, years later, I have finally recovered. I went from total mess to the healthiest person I know. I learned the hard way, but then I doubled down on my weaknesses and became invincible. I wish the same for you! Survive, learn from it, and then thrive. :) Hope that helps a little

The same thing happened to me bro when I first went to Mexico. Eventually I packed up moved back home made some money worked hard. Now I’m back in Mexico because it’s my love but I’m not depending on the same shitty business and am living much better and actually enjoying it. Your young if you stay there either I guess you can try to make it work but it just does not seem worth it if you can’t make a living off. I feel you commander, my husband and I did fishpond too in the Philippines in the 1990 and it did not work, same situation as yours. We abandoned it and start our life again in Canada. My life has had some serious dark moments but as I reflect back on them I'm grateful because without those times in my life I wouldn't be where I am today. Which is so much better than any other time or place in my life. So I am eternally grateful to God for giving me those difficult times. Kulas utilized a minimum of 20 hardwood trees from his gate to his two wooden house columns... plus plenty more of kulas like mindset equals flood... there were less trees to hold the water in the mountains of cateel

I also just recently found out that after typhoons, homeowners are allowed to fell trees (damaged, supposedly by the typhoon, but who checks?) within their property. Here in bicol after typhoon rolly, the sound of chainsaws were here and there. Lahat kaya ng pinuputol nila ay talagang na-damage ng bagyo?

Brilliant vlog, you really pulled me in with this one, it's almost like the way D Marsh does it from the heart. I have to say don't give up, go all out with your fish pond, think long term, be the first to use concrete shuttering, build it 10 feet higher than the highest level of flood water at your place. Build it like they build slurry pits back home, you know, where they keep the cows indoors for the winter and all the waste goes into those big slatted concrete pits, build 4 or 5 of them dude m, don't give up just look for a different way of doing what you have started.

I had a good think about how I'd respond to this comment, since the suggestion has come up again. The "daot" part of my name is all about accepting our human failures/brokenness and admitting that despite that, we can still succeed. It is also just part of my sense of humour. I do not believe that calling myself Daot has any influence on my life, since I had successes and failures before, and have had successes and failures since. If we want to talk about the law of attraction - I think there are far better ways to "attract" good things - mostly in attitude and how you respond to things. Honestly though, I wish that I could just change my name and attract good vibes that way. But I don't think that's how the world works. (also I'd feel very embarrassed trying to carry Kumander Daog, it sounds big headed)

While living in the Philippines I was looking into opening a hamburger type of business for a couple in my family to make a living. (my wife's family). However before investing money I wanted a clear picture of what I was getting myself into. As I have heard many stories of foreigners moneyless after just a few years. I started asking question at city hall and my oh my. I will not go into details just a word to the wise. Talk with other foreigners that have invested, winners and losers you will learn a lot. Downsize your pond/s....into hobby pond for blogging purpose. Never have 1 buyer, sell direct to local merchants with small volumes. Grow your channel and use hobby pond as interesting content.

This is the best advice I've seen KD, or downsize and split the ponds to produce smaller runs that mature at different times, which should mean less losses and easier to manage sales. Much like crop rotation with fields, and where you also don't plant everything at the same time. Diversify and sell direct, where you can manage smaller yealds at a more regular pace. Also, DO NOT go home, that's the worst advice I've heard.
