WOW. Your differentiation between the two mental states when-playing-well was huge. Our local course has 6 open-ish holes I can occasionally play super well, followed by 7-13 which is brutal wooded, that if I’m really playing well, the “bogey’s gonna come” mentality hits me EVERY TIME on the tee of 7. The time’s I’ve scored best have been when I’ve been slightly unaware of scores and been “living shot by shot”, or the times league has started me on 7 so I don’t get in my head with a stack of birdies from 1-6. I also love your point that you analyze the story of the round - AFTERWARDS. Gonna try to take that with me. Thanks Robbie!

Last weekend, I had a PB on a course that I typically score over +20. I had a birdie (my first on that course) and parred two difficult holes. Two days later, I played the back nine and had the exact score. I could live with that, because I got my PB. I know it is a difficult course and every time I play it (three times a year?) I get a bit better. Thanks for the content.

Hi robbie, I would love to see a video about how to improve your game when you only play one course. How to make sure you learn all the shot, not just the ones on your home course

Robbie - your foundation mystery box was A+. Took the discs onto the course and they instantly made my bag. That esp sting has quickly become a staple in my game in the last few weeks since getting the box!

With going through preparations for a tournament this weekend where I already feel like a major underdog, this video helps me realize that mentally I need to tell myself that I am better than I give myself credit for and a bad throw is not the end of the "world" or round. I have been telling myself play for par and throw the shot that I am use to and I will reach my goal this whole week. So come Saturday morning the only thing I have to deal with is pre match jitters.😂 Thanks Robbie for the great motivational and instructional content! Keep it up!!

Amazing timing Robbie! My game seems to be falling appart after a few great months but I do think setting a label for the rounds may help me see what is a realistic round vs what my floor is. I may have been playing in my upper range without noticing and now im back to my bad rounds. Time to disect and figure this out. Thanks again Robbie!

Leaving bad shots on the hole you threw them on is one of the toughest things to do consistently. Even harder when your card mates are playing well. Cut yourself some slack and put the bogey in your back pocket. Great content as always!

Excellent hearing you break down mental vs physical execution. Ive been trying to implement your concept of 3rds and it's super difficult. I was 829 rated 2 years ago, 842 12 months ago, and I've played 940 across my last 7 competitive rounds with the worst being 890(which if you would've asked me I'd say that was my middle). It's tough to judge when we are constantly evolving as players but thankful for folks like you and Josh to provide a bit of guidance. 😊

Great content Robbie. The mental game is so tough. Especially during tournament play. I find myself having to refocus a few times during rounds after a bad tee shot or bad putt. Allowing the negative thoughts to run havoc can damage the rest of the round. I really like the idea of taking everything in thirds.

I played (and won) my first tournament in March. Started with 5 straight birdies and finished the first round -7. Best round I’ve ever played. Then I got to watch my rating drop every month since then. I just look at it as reality setting in. While I know I can get back to that level of play again, that was definitely a top of the top third round.

Almost every week I have a bad round or two. Last week I played 3 rounds and all were bad. Luckily my lease rounds yesterday ended up being better. It is super encouraging when my bad rounds are as good as my normal rounds were back in the spring

I have been on an upward trajectory , maybe 2% better each time I play a 'round'. I know that will peak but this year has been like that. I never think about my worst rounds unless it's something that is repeating to focus on.. they are usually flubs or me rushing / and being dumb or distracted or too much motor oil on my fingers. A good topic Robbie good job.

Well as a bob, I must say had a month or more in lower third, kinda rough coming off of a top third 1-3 months, last round. Also it is rough when you shoot, +2 and I was also just slightly off of -6. But that was a good day, cause that was my last lower third round enough to give me the confidence that I'm probably in a middle third stage now.
@digital0785 Жыл бұрын
yea the shooting +2 when you could've/ SHOULDVE had -4 is one of the most frustrating parts when you walk up and dink stupid puts and you're like yea I got par but why are you missing 5 c1 in a round ya. I just got off some of my best rounds I feel like i was setting a new PR every other round and now i'm just the opposite last few rounds were going to be terrible and i pulled out 3-5 birds at the back 9 to turn in a OK round which yes is great but SUPER frustrating when you feel like everything is JUST off so your ok round could've easily been a great one

We recently had a baby and I've been out of practice and the game for a year now. I tried playing a couple times recently and everything felt different, my discs flew different and I felt like I lost all the ability I had previously drilled and built up. Any tips on how to get back into Disc Golf and relearn how to play after a long break?

I think my thirds actually fall into another set of thirds: Am I throwing consistently (i.e. distance and accuracy, some days you throw well but off line and some days you throw poorly but hit your lines)? Am I making solid putts (i.e. does it feel like I am hunting all round for the disc to come off my hand "right" or am I grooved)? Did I score within the boundaries allowed by the putting and throwing "thirds" or did I lose my "focus."
@yelnik9000 Жыл бұрын
My putting went from confident and driven to I am 100% sure I will miss a put outside 10 feet. And even inside 10 feet is iffy. I have also started missing by completely air balling and not even coming close to making contact with the basket. This all within the span of a few weeks.

Completely unrelated but genuine question. Should I retire my disc? I got my second ace with it last night and it doesn't fly really like a rancho ROC. It's Dx and is beat in and is a griffin disc for me. But I got my third ever ace and second ace with it last night right after saying I need to pick up a couple more to start beating them in. My genuine question is should I retire it? My first ever ace was a star wraith and I lost it a few months later.

I have absolutely been my own worst enemy on the course for most of this year. Every league night i ask myself, shouldn't you drop back down to rec? Consistently playing bad every week has definitely got me in a negative headspace, to the point were throwing so bad feels like my normal. Last couple weeks, i have been dealing with some sciatica issues, which has led me to think about one shot at a time, instead of the entire hole. I think it has led to some better throws and slightly better rounds.

How do you think the rule of thirds applies to trying to improve overall? I.e. if you are trying to get better, do you focus on improving your bottom third with decision-making (at least for me bottom-third rounds are littered with bad choices that keep them out of the middle-third)? Do you do form work to try and move your ceiling up? Do you focus on making things more repeatable to move upper-third shots into your middle-third? All of it? Something else?

The pro and sponsored player has access to courses before the games begin.. so that's something to keep in mind. They can stake out their game before they compete and suss out the weak points ahead of time. Not to mention some other aspects I won't bring up here I see going on ..(some cringe dishonesty)
