Cool! You'll love your Slash! I didnt include suspension in this video because this is for the brushed model. Idk if that's what you have though. I made a video specifically for the brushless model because it breaks more easily. With the brushed model, the suspension isnt a major weak spot. You may break a thing here and there, but nothing major. Glad you enjoyed the video dude! 🤘

For the brushless model yes. For brushed it's different because less power. A lot of the parts I said in the video are to make the transition from brushed to brushless easier because most people do that swap.

Hello! New to RC here and I was wondering if a slash would be a good car for starters who would drive it on Asphalt. If not, what other cars would be a good choice?
@traxrc
@traxrc Жыл бұрын
If I were to do it over again, I’d start with Arrmas as the value is better for the quality of RC you get. If you’ll just be on the street, I’d recommend an Infraction 3S, but if you wanna hit some jumps and street bash, the Vorteks is pretty nice too. They also make some models that are upgradable as your skills advance and as you progress in the hobby. The upfront cost of those models are cheap, and you can upgrade them to be more advanced later for a good price too.
@TPA_JW
@TPA_JW 3 жыл бұрын
Would you recommend the upgraded chassis if you did the monster slash upgrade? Does it fit?
@traxrc
@traxrc 3 жыл бұрын
If you build a monster slash, then you will need the LCG chassis more than ever imo. It will dramatically reduce rollovers caused from raising the truck. Also, the LCG gives you more clearance in the front so that the front tires cannot rub on the chassis during a hard impact. Idk if that is a good or bad thing, but that is what will happen. Thanks for watching!!

@jrc-fabs1634
@jrc-fabs1634 4 жыл бұрын
In my experience the only thing that you need to upgrade is the shock caps. Tires work fine, non lipo will be good for a year or so, don’t get lcg chassis if you jump it a lot, and don’t upgrade the shafts if have a brushed model, they don’t have enough power to break themselves, save your money and get a metal spur gear.
@traxrc
@traxrc 4 жыл бұрын
Shock caps are the biggest one for sure! In our opinion the tires are bad. We used them for a year when we got our first Slash and once we got Badlands we didn't realize how much they would change the characteristics of the truck. The LCG chassis for us is a must-do because we like to go fast, and the stock chassis isn't great for that. You can get buy with the plastic shafts on the brushed model but once we stepped up to 2S we broke them more frequently. Although the metal spur is more durable, we like to keep ours plastic because on a hard impact it will strip instead of ruining an expensive metal part. Thanks for watching!

From what I know (just got back into rc so still catching up) I’ve only had to change the spur gear, shock caps and rpm plastics and the car was bullet proof. I haven’t broken a bulkhead yet but people say that’s a weak point too. And your right about the tires but their only good for loose dirt other than that 👎 also a brushed slash doesn’t need driveshafts my slash ran stock driveshafts for 2 years and they never broke I got tekno but my stocks never broke
@traxrc
@traxrc 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah we always thought that a Slash was durable when we first got ours but when we progressed in the hobby we realized that it wasn't. The driveshafts on a brushed Slash arent very important, but they set you up right for the future if you go brushless, and you'll never worry about them again.

The only thing I've broken on my 2wd brushed slash in 4 years is the small pin on the gear shaft assembly. Shock caps are annoying, but i just re-oil them every few months while I do a deep clean and it's fine.

@traxrc
@traxrc 3 жыл бұрын
We don't strip spurs that often but every once and a while we do. If you set the mesh good it's not a problem. But most of the time when we strip a spur it's because the pinion moves on hard landings, or rocks/sand got in the gear case. We've seen that Traxxas sells peices that stop the motor from moving and give you perfect gear mesh.

I fear lipos. I normally drive crawlers with nimh batteries (I know some out there will laugh about it). Nevertheless, the slash is growing on me, and I'm thinking of buying two, and considering buying the recommended lipos you mentioned. My question is, how much run time do you get out of each lipo?
@traxrc
@traxrc Жыл бұрын
So lipos are only dangerous, If you don’t use them right. The easiest ones to use for a slash are the Traxxas ones, as they have safety features. I have a video explaining lipos in great detail. Runtime depends on driving style could be 20 to half an hour of run time.

I have an older Robby Gordon edition 2wd slash. Can I still run 2s lipo? It runs off NimH right now.
@VikingDudee
@VikingDudee 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can run a 2s lipo just fine, you will need a new charger, Do not use the charger that you charge your nimh batteries with, that could/will result in a fire with lipos. And make sure you set the ESC to lipo mode, you can't run lipos all the way down to 0 or they can be damaged or worse, the ESC has a built in "Low voltage cut off" that will slow your truck down a lot once it gets to that point, get the truck back to you and unplug the battery and put it on charge, do not keep running it when its goes to low power mode. Lipo batteries are no joke if miss treated. To enable the Low voltage mode on your truck, turn on your transmitter, then plug in a battery and power it on, the light should be red with the nimh battey (Low voltage is off) Now press and hold the power button on the ESC for 10 seconds, the light should turn green, indicating that Low voltage mode is enabled for lipo, this will keep it from draining the lipo to much. Now if you want to run a nimh pack again, turn the transmitter on, plug a battery in and power on the truck, and then hold the power button down for another 10 sec's and the light should turn red. It may even vibrate or make noises when you set it to either mode, I can't remember if the XL-5 ESC's do that, that would be normal.

No the 3000mAh NiMH battery will last a few years at least, but it has less runtime than a 2S LiPo, and loses power throughout the run. With LiPos, the speed is constant the whole time and when the battery dies, it cuts almost all power from the battery.

The only reason why we included them in this video is because most people with the brushed system upgrade to brushless, and then you need them. Also, it saves money in the long run because you will never have to worry about them again.

I don't have a Slash with the stock driveshafts anymore, and I'm getting ready to sell my Stampede 2wd which is the same process. It's very simple though. For the tires you just have to make sure that the inside hex of the wheel is lined up with the hex on the stub axle. If you look up videos on how to install a driveshaft, that will help you with that.

You don’t need to upgrade drive shafts if you have the brushed motor. My suggestion would be to get the velineon or castle brushless right after the 2s battery. The stock driveshafts last quite along time with the brushed motor.
@traxrc
@traxrc 3 жыл бұрын
We agree with you! However when we bash our brushed Slashes we brake the driveshafts. It isnt a major weakness but it happens. They wear out over time though with all Slashes, and dramatically reduce the performance after a lot of use, witch also leads to them being more fragile.

Trax RC yes I am agree with that but I personally put the $40-60 dollars you would spend on shafts towards a brushless system first. On a side note i have had the vxl in my slash 2wd with badlands for about 6 months and I have only broken 1 yoke landing a jump with power on.

The brushless is very nice, and really makes the truck more enjoyable. We just said that driveshafts are a weak spot because most people upgrade to brushless, and why not upgrade what you have first that you know wont last so that you don't have to end driving early for something that could have been prevented. The brushless model has more power and can run on 3s LiPo. Personally, if you are wanting a 2wd and are even considering going with the brushless model, I would save up and get the Slash 4x4 brushless because it handles the power so much better. You could save a little and get an Arrma Senton 4x4 3S, which is the equivalent to the Slash 4x4 VXL, just much cheaper and needs almost nothing. The Slash 4x4 VXL will need at least metal driveshafts. But, if you want to stay with 2wd and Traxxas, I wouldnt get the brushless Slash 2wd. It needs way to much done to it to hold up to the brushless power. By the time you upgrade it you can get something like a Traxxas Maxx or if your like me, an X-Maxx, which hadn't come out yet. I hope this helps :)

Upgrading to brushless, which is the VXL system, will make your car faster. I think that you are getting confused though with the servo and ESC. The servo is what steers the car, the ESC is what you plug the battery into, and it stand for Electronic Speed Control. Then the motor obviously drives the car. Ok, i get when people say upgrade that, upgrade this, but why do it if my rc still runs great? Like why bother changing things and spending money if nothing is broken yet? I agree with performance related parts, but not suspention or others. I just order some spares before something brakes and only then replace. Why bother buying 50 $ metal hub carriers if i brake one pair once a year? Just replace that 5 dollar part once a year and save some money for motors or batteries. Just my opinion. Thanks for video
@traxrc
@traxrc 2 жыл бұрын
I lot of it is preventative and if you change out a power system for more power, that puts more stress on certain components so it's a reason to upgrade. Also, Most RC's have very poorly designed/weak parts installed from the factory and those should be swapped immediately so that you don't have issues.

The traxxas batteries are both double the price of other batteries and not as powerful at the same time ie, the traxxas batteries cost around 80 a piece for a 3s and a pack of two really good 3s batteries with more power than the traxxas (look at the cc rating) will cost around 65. The chargers are so over priced just get a solid charger for 80 dollars instead of the 130 that the traxxas costs.
