Thanks! The "parts availability" excuse just doesn't cut it anymore. In my opinion, that is an out-dated reason for sticking with the Slash...for 2 reasons: 1) It is 2022/2023. ALL parts for both of these vehicles are available from major retailers like AMain Hobbies and Amazon, and will typically be at your door in 2 days. So, unless you need the part at that exact minute, all of the parts are available. 2) Newer designed vehicles are more durable. Unlike the Slash which is many years old, newer designs are more durable...so parts are not needed as often. Like you said though - the best answer is to have BOTH! :)

Great video, as always, Troy! About how I expected it to go. Seems like the Slash would be OK as a first race truck, but the SC10 would be the better, and cheaper option. It was pretty obvious right from the start that the SC10 was smoother and more stable, probably due to the lower COG. I’m a self described Traxxas fanboy, so I’d likely go for the Slash if I were to try to get back into racing (haven’t raced on a track since the mid 90’s), but I’d almost certainly upgrade to a Losi (my other RC love) after a short while.

First, I want to say that I really liked the track. It did not have a lot of insane jumps. I expected the ProSC10 to do better. There are VXL Slashes with different bodies that sell for $299.95 on AMain and other places. If you add the price of an LCG chassis the price is similar to the ProSC10. That doesn't make it a better racer than the ProSC10. As someone mentioned below parts at your local hobby shop will lean toward the Slash. Bashing will be interesting. I have run my original SC10 on a lot of surfaces and there is very little breakage. When your test drivers basher these trucks it will be interesting to see if the Sash's rear hubs hold up.Thanks for the video.
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын

@@RoadsideRC Thanks for replying. It's been my experience working with a school club if a young driver breaks his truck he or she can call the local hobby ship and get Traxxas parts or the RPM parts for their truck the same day. Because local shops don't carry parts like they used to Associated parts are not as readily available locally. On line and on Amazon everything is available or the local shop can order things and get them quickly. But, if you need it right now Traxxas is much easier to find.

As a straight up beginner rig for someone wanting to get into racing I will always point at the slash first for the simple fact of the Spec Slash class. It's a great way to get started into racing where the only difference is going to be driver skill. Not to mention that you can graduate out of it but turn around in 3 years and put the exact same truck back in the race and be competitive with all the others. In my opinion your statement about parts availability being an outdated excuse is flawed to a certain degree...how many beginners want to have to wait 2 days to a week depending on shipping times to be able to get back in there over being virtually guaranteed to be able to get the part they just broke right now? But that really comes down to the track or LHS making sure they have decent inventory to take care of their customers and is a completely different debate.
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
I see your point - some folks have to have the parts RIGHT NOW...but in a world where many things are ordered online...it is a hard sell. Unfortunately(?) my track does not have a spec-Slash class. They tried, but it didn't catch on. Many spec-Slash classes also rely on the brushed model, which is a whole different can of worms.
@kdf1369 Жыл бұрын
@@RoadsideRC That's fair and I understand but if we're talking beginners or new racers think of how stoked and excited you were after your first race. Now if you had broken a front arm for example and had to wait 2 or 3 days to get the replacement rather than being able to snatch it off the rack at the store and get help fixing your new toy to get into the next heat would you have still been as excited about your new hobby? I would call it unfortunate that the class didn't take off because it's a great way to get new folks and younger kids on a budget into the hobby. But I feel the same way about the Tamiya racing series for onroad stuff. Low cost of entry and mostly spec classes makes it easier to draw people in.

My first rc was brushless, slight learning curve on speed control but i didnt notice the curve until after i bought a used brushed model. Brushless seems to spin up faster and have more torque and top speed so it was super sensitive. If your not a patient person or willing to train and learn then brushless might not be the right type to start with, but if your willing to learn self control, its not a problem and when you run brushed you will have better fine acceleration skills (i think personally).
