Those groves on the die probably helps with the old problem of Liquid Metal pulling to one side of the apu, causing a dry spot. Groves might keep the Liquid Metal in place a lot better in the vertical orientation.

Reminds me of that Apple thing years ago when they said something about convection liquid metal moving through the cooler. Not just as a transfer, but more like water cooling. I don't think anything ever bacame of it though.

So in summary, the pro gives you about 7 more frames per second which you woul have to be a robot to be able to detect. Easier to take apart. Its smaller than the original. You also get slightly better background images on most ps5 games. All of this for $700 USD. Yeah, im skipping it. Just wait 3 more years for the $900 PS6

I did notice that when compared to my OG day 1 PS5, the PS5 Pro was getting surprisingly hot! Don't know if the disc drive attachment has anything to do with it, but that was the hottest side of the console, and I play mainly digital! Anyone else noticing this with their PS5 Pros? Smaller lithography has higher failure rates so is more expensive, I do suspect Sony has a profit margin on the Pro though, but then again at this point in the cycle the base model should be returning a per-unit profit as they put the price up in most of the World.

I think that APU is 4nm, but I can confirm the fan is a TAD louder than the base ps5 / slim. It's still very quiet, but you can hear it a little more when you're near it. Considering it's still quiet, from a business stance it makes sense to ramp the fan up a bit instead of putting in a way more expensive heat sink.

Sony didn't tell me about some Ps5 Pro consoles automatically shutting down and crash with a green screen while browsing the store or being left to download games with the TV off then won't turn back on with the controller and beeps the first time you press the console power button but comes back on with the second press of the button and then shows it wasn't shutdown properly before repairing the drives. Mines got to go back within a week of purchase. Apparently I'm not the only one, there's Reddit posts of people with the same issue.

I mean I have an OG PS5 with an LG Oled/120hz. It is great tech doing 120fps and 40fps locked fidelity already if you have the TV. COD the most I can see them doing is making the 120fps mode have better graphics. The base 60fps mode is already great looking. Silent Hill 2 could def use it, and any UE5 game moving forward. But I feel it’s way too early for most. No doubt like the PS4 Pro did, by 2026 we will start seeing a huge difference in newer games. Or maybe not at the point, as developers will be focused on base PS5 still. The fact PS4 cross gen titles are normal says a lot. I remember when the latest COD came out on PS4…it looked like garbage on PS3 and 360. They didn’t even include all the modes and it struggled big time! This gen it felt to me like your TV choice mattered just as much with the PS5. As if you didn’t have HDMI 2.1/VRR, you just weren’t going to get it all. But I’d also say you may not even need to use 120hz, to make up the difference or need VRR. But some developers will lean on VRR still as a CPU work around, to push resolution. I was sad to see they didn’t upgrade to 40gbps hdmi, and kept the stock 32gbps. Bringing the VRR window down to 40 would have been great! Xbox has it, it just baffles me we never got Dolby Vision games or that 40gbps hdmi. Instead we get a GPU increase and AI, no disc drive and no stand. I do wonder if the $699 price tag, has any future wiggle room. PS5 was in demand so they didn’t have to drop prices. But inflation the PS4 Pro would have been around $540 today! Now that’s a good window for a 5 Pro. $550-$599, I think they would push more out. If I buy one early, it’s gonna be a trade in and selling some crypto lol. Only good thing recently is Crypto is soaring, and I can def take $300-$500 gains out to buy a PS5 Pro as of 2 days ago…before that I was at a loss. I just don’t see buying one out of pocket..but trade in or stock gains being up, sure why not!

5nm is very interesting because even though the ps5s cpu is zen 2 and its gpu is rdna 3(both are not known for being very efficient at least on desktop/pc), them being made on 5nm(same as zen 4/ryzen 7000 and RTX 4000 series) means the ps5 pro is theoretically STUPIDILY EFFICIENT for a modern console(just as zen 4/rtx 4000 are on desktop).

The subpar 120hz hdr output being repeated is a big disappointment. Ffs even the dinky little series S gets this right and can do full 10 bit Dolby vision hdr 4k 120 hz output. And the ps5 pro is still stuck with a cheap chroma subsampling solution when 120hz mode kicks in. The ps5 pro also kept the same crappy vrr window of 48hz and still lacks low frame rate compensation. These features make such a big difference for fluidity and responsiveness in gameplay and sony is still cheaping out on these features with their "premium" console. It's frustrating. Elden ring on my Series S still offers a smoother experience than the ps5 pro which can still have moments that drop below the vrr window AND series S still feels more responsive because you can set 120 hz to be always on where ps5 limits to 60 hz on most games. The pro is very impressive in certain regards and is bafflingly stunted in others.

I think ps5 pro is an amazing console. 4k 60fps is pretty nice i think it would take like 1500$ to get 4k 60fps set up on PC. Also wifi 7g. I don't think my state province has that. We are still 3g-4g and luxury 5g wifi. My only complaint is that playstation sony needs to really expand their library. Get cute cartoon games, farming sims, horror shooters mobas and mmorpgs. The sony online store needs to really have more than 12,000 games so the library can feel good. But otherwise, the ps5 pro is a really nice hardware. Great video
