Yes he has a wig on to match the style of hair he had back in 1977 when this song came out and thus the band and back up singers are all wearing costumes from that ‘70’s era to match the vibe of when this song was a big hit. Rest of the concert he takes off the wig and the band changes too Meat Loaf is “ Theatrical Rock” music 😎

But if you want to see audience joining in then watch You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth. if you follow these few simple intros in to his songs you will want to explore more and become a die-hard fan, as the multi million selling album's are not wrong. but first impressions can be. thank you and i hope you give Meatloaf a chance. @@MaddyReactions Meat Loaf was actually a _very_ capable opera singer! I am not kidding! There is a video on KZbin of him singing a duet with Pavarotti and he keeps right up with the master! Meat Loaf was a helden-tenor, very much in demand with opera companies because of the rarity of that voice type. An opera company offered him an understudy role for around $60,000 a year back in the late 1960s or early 1970s but he turned it down. That was a princely sum back then! Then he brought out "Bat Out of Hell" in 1977 and it sold over 40,000,000 copies! I am not personally a big Meat Loaf fan but this song in the original version is a classic. Karla sang the vocals on tour but for the video, Ellen's vocals were just so spectacular, they had to use them.

This song was a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor, based on 1970s dating culture. The official video is a "live" performance style video which plays out the 3 acts much better, including the baseball play-by-play, used to metaphorically describe the make-out session (a large part of the humor). But that track can be a bit much for the uninitiated, so I would recommend the following, which I think you will like much better (if these do not warm you up to Meat Loaf music then nothing will) : - Bat Out Of Hell (album version - no live shit) - I'd Do Anything For Live... But I Won't Do That (this is a 12 minute song, but the official video trims it down to around 5 or 7 minutes as a radio-friendly "single" edit - your call which you wanna do, but I always say, go album version for the first time). - Two Out Of Three Aint Bad - For Crying Out Loud - Dead Ringer (duet with Cher) - I'd Lie For You And That's The Truth

Like others have said, a poor version. But the song itself is a classic. It's a moral story. If you listen to the words, it is told from the present about a time in the past, where two teenagers are about to hook up in a car by the lake. They finally do when the boy agrees to "love her forever". They (implied) then get married and live together, but grow apart until they finally can't stand each other. But he stands by the vow he made to never leave her. It's a cautionary tale. Quick decisions made with the aid of hormones could see you regretting it the rest of your life. The song was extremely popular in the 70s and 80s. First time I heard it and actually listened to the words was at my brother's wedding reception, believe it or not. I'm always taken by the words to a song, and not so much by the music and I wondered what the blue blazes the DJ was thinking. But the wedding couple had asked for it and everyone sang along, the men taking Boy's part and the women taking Girl's part -- which, apparently, was a thing.

When you talk Meat Loaf, you have to acknowledge Jim Steinman - the songwriter behind the entire Bat Out Of Hell album, and other throughout the Meat Loaf odyssey. The musical styles can change slightly to greatly from album to album, solidifying Meat Loaf as defying genre categorization. All are basically rock on some level or another, but Midnight At The Lost & Found has more of a country-rock sound, while the follow-up Bad Attitude has a much heavier almost "metal" vibe. 1977 - Bat Out Of Hell (all songs by Jim Steinman) 1981 - Bad For Good (Jim Steinman album, released while Meat recovered from an accident - 8 of the songs here are reprised on future Meat Loaf albums) 1981 - Dead Ringer (all songs by Jim Steinman) (I consider this and Jim Steinman's solo album BFG to be two halves of a whole project) 1983 - Midnight At The Lost & Found 1984 - Bad Attitude (only 2 songs by Steinman, featuring 1 track from Bad For Good) 1986 - Blind Before I Stop 1993 - Bat Out Of Hell II : Back Into Hell (all songs by Jim Steinman, featuring 3 tracks from Bad For Good) 1995 - Welcome To The Neighborhood (only 2 songs by Jim Steinman, featuring 1 track from Bad For Good) 2003 - Couldn't Have Said It Better (some songs co-written by Jim Steinman with Don Black and Andrew Lloyd Webber) 2006 - Bat Out Of Hell III : The Monster Is Loose (most songs by Jim Steinman, featuring 3 tracks from Bad For Good) 2010 - Hang Cool Teddy Bear 2011 - Hell In A Handbasket 2016 - Braver Than We Are (all songs by Jim Steinman, with some co-writing collaborations) And that's it. As of 2021 and 2022, Jim Steinman passed away (April 19), followed by Meat Loaf the following year (January 20). The 3 Bat Out Of Hell albums are collectively referred to as a trilogy, but are NOT concept albums where each song tells a specific part of a story arc. Meat has suggested if the songs do tell any kind of story, it is one that is up to the listener to discern. Bat Out Of Hell was made into a musical production which ran from 2017 to 2020.

The difinitive video for this is on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test in the 70's. This was a pale imitation of how good he was back then. Not surprised you didn't like it. The girl was clearly a Broadway performer on this version though and was great!

Now I saw Meatloaf live twice. He is a great showman and singer. He gives it 120%. This song huge hit. No it's not a wig for real. He died I believe 2 years ago from Covid. he was 70 yrs. old I believe. He has been cast in several movies also. The song is he wants to have sex in car and see everything from the dashboard lights. They were 17 teen but she wants more then that but a promise of marriage. When he passed it was big news. thats how much people loved him. I was very sad.

Wow i never knew there was a horrible version of this hiding out there. I'm not sure you'd like the 'right' version better but you really owe it to yourself and maybe us to watch it. Beyond that I never mind the honesty of a reactionist hating a beloved song of mine. And you're talking in the beginning about stepping into an alternate reality and I'm thinking of the baseball segment and going 'you have no idea'. And then we reach that point and the continued persistence of annoyed bafflement on your face had me in his hysterics. Just discovered you a few days ago and thoroughly enjoying my journey through your presentations.

Maddy, you need to watch the original video, this is later in his career and doesn’t have the voice he once had, plus the woman singer was way better, IMO. Just a trashier version, pandering to the live audience, it seems! Your still loved and appreciated I,m sure❤😊

Was a big hit when i was maybe 14-15 and constantly played on every party here in germany at that time. However this version is a bit strange in case of how he sings her, not sure if its just his age or had some other reason 🤔 This songs is also really a bit different music wise, to get a better impresson of the typical Meat Load/Jim Steinman sound check out for example " I'd do Anything for love" Btw.: in the end that sound is really more the sound of Jim Steinman since you will recognice it also if you listen for example to Bonnie Tylers "Total Eclipse of the Heart" or "Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young " from the Move Streets of Fire.

This video is not the Meatloaf that I grew up on. If this was my first time hearing Meatloaf I don’t think I’d listen a second time. Favorite song is “For crying out loud “.

That is meatloaf himself, the lead singer. And that is his actual hair. You can also see him in the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show. Meatloaf was a trained at Juilliard as a Opera thespian. This song is about high school dating and sex. You really need to see the official music video because it is so much better because they can’t edit and do the things they can do in a produced music video. If you really want to see his depth of talent and see his training as an opera player you should really watch the official music videos for his song I will do anything for love, and you will see his training. All his shows are more of a production that they are concerts. Just give him a chance and check out his other music because he really is a great story teller when it’s comes to his music.

Ellen Foley did the original vocal which was a better one than the one here. Meatloaf’s vocal by this point was worn so this probably is not the best version of the song. This version of the song lessens the humor and passion of the original. Meatloaf’s voice is unfortunately shot and he no longer can emote the strong feelings the man has in that moment while the woman singing just doesn’t grasp the feelings and questions the woman had in that song. Ellen Foley who sang the lead and Karla Devito who did the original video and toured in the 70’s with Meatloaf were contemporaries of Jim Steinman who wrote the song. Ellen, Karla, Meatloaf and Jim Steinman all were on the same page about “Paradise” and if you watch the original video instead of this mess you can see a far superior version of “Paradise.”

The "go go dancer" looks to actually be dressed as a Dallas Cowboy Cherrleader. He is actually from the Dallas area. That may be why. As many have said. This was at the point in his career where his voice was failing him. But his early stuff from the 70s to early 90s is absolutely incredible. Meatloaf was very into theater and all of his live performances leaned heavily into that. He has a slew of acting credits in film and TV. Almost all of his songs are a complete journey when you get deep inti the lyrics.

@@MaddyReactions gotcha.... Forgot about the back up dancer. But a go go dancer still fits with Meatloaf's style. I didn't see this performance, it may have played more significance in another song of his. Like I said, he loved to put a lot of theatrics into his shows. Again, as many have said... this was much later in his career. His shows were much better sounding and more entertaing. In his early days he would run and jump all over the stage. He would literally collapse from exhaustion at the end of the show and the crew would just step over him while he recovered. He admits he did a LOT of drugs in those days. Which is probably why his voice started failing him in the 90s. He was too high to realize the damage he was doing in those performances. I also think that as his voice started failing he threw even more theatrics into the show to cover for that. But that is just my opinion. Many people have suggested other songs to check out and they are all great. Just pic performances before the mid 90s or studio productions... lol. And I want to add a song as well. "Objects in the Rearview Mirror" is an underrated song of his. It's more of an emotional song than an energetic one. It will make you cry.

.I like watching people react to Paradise By The Dashboard... This is a different live video than the one I have seen before. Edit; is that Paul Shaffer on piano? His credits are a mile long. He really got around so I shouldn't be surprised if it is. Including director of the rock and roll hall of fame since it's inception in '86 ... Led the band for the "We Are the World" finale of Live Aid...musical director for the 1999 Concert of the Century at the White House, featuring Eric Clapton, B. B.King, Gloria Estefan, 'N Sync and others, to benefit public school music programs. and the list goes on

You better get back in the Jungle. lol, Meatloaf brought some originality, uniqueness, to rock music that craves high theatrical dramatic scenes in which this live version did not accomplish. for sure, this is a very good live version in its own right to all Meatloaf fans out there for a more chill vibe type version of enjoyment, kinda lets reunite and relax type ambiance.

I love how stunned you are watching this video. And sorry to disagree with you.. his hair is not a wig.. I (as a late 70's kid) grew up with Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell (1977)" and "Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell (1993)". I still have both albums on vinyl. And whenever I feel like it I can play those without going to iTunes, Spotify or some other streaming platform who does (or doesn't) have the music available for a certain fee.

I have to agree with you. Not the best representation of his abilities. Meatloaf's background was in musical theatre appearing in Hair and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He actually had an incredible voice but unfortunately, while undergoing throat surgery, his vocal cords were nicked and his voice was never close to being the same. Find the original video with Karla DeVito as his "date".

KZbin has at least 3 live performance versions of this song. This is my least favorite. You are forgiven for not understanding what is going on. The others are better and easier to understand. Poor Maddy - someone set her up for something she was not ready for... 1. You should have done the official video cos: 1. it's much better, and 2. this live performance lame - Meat still sounds okay, but this performance doesn't do the song justice. 2. Yes, it's definitely a wig - his hair actually looked like that back in the 70s, and there's some kind of re-enactment of the era going on here. 3. Haha, I agree, there's some kind of holiday vibe going on here (I only heard it once you mentioned it)... 8:35 - THIS is a prime example of why I always discourage people from diving right in to live performances of songs they've never heard before ; there is often some context needed to appreciate and understand what the hell the live version is doing. What is happening here, is they are re-enacting the video. This would have been less of a confusing shock had someone provided you with a link to the original song and video. I would not blamed you if you bailed on this video, lol. This was NOT a good example of Meat Loaf music or even live performances. Don't judge Meat Loaf by this weak performance. Check out the album version/video and I am sure you'll get context and a better experience.
