P.S if Horii chose to have a new shepherd/guardian of the series, he better hope he picks the right person who had the balls to stand up against SQEX.

Yeah, on Gamefaqs I made a similar argument about DQ's 3 HD-2D and 12 holding out for the Switch 2 as launch titles, or near enough (and possibly for 12, special features on the PS5 Pro), months ago. I think it's a solid argument. Where Switch is the barebones, and there's a special patch or innate built in functions to the Switch 2 version of DQ3 that take advantage of it. Though I do also wonder if another reason for the wait is 1+2 also going HD-2D, and releasing as a bundle.

However you're wrong about FF16. They hit expectations. The game profited, but it hit their mid-range numbers, with minimal growth past initial sales. Enough to warrant spending on the expansions, which were NOT initially planned for and they were going to decide that later on. FF7 Rebirth is another matter. That likely hit the bottom of their mid-tier, or the top of their low-tier, and it barely profited, or only paid for development and marketing. FF7 R3 will have the lowest development costs of the three though, given most assets are pre-created for existing areas, and they held back content they created for Rebirth for the final release, indications they were already creating the new areas with one team while the main team worked on finalizing Rebirth. We'll have a better idea of how they feel internally relative to the costs generated by Rebirth and their expected marketing costs to profit margins with the 3rd and final release. So far the lack of discussion relative to the development timeline is similar to how they handled Remake. Hell we're still in a similar timeline to blindspot in lieu of Rebirth's actual sales tracking post release for any new numbers, as we were with Remake. So it is possible Rebirth is tracking better post-release. Though I admit I haven't looked into SE's most recent annual report.

@@ThatsRoyo That definitely fits. I hadn't seen that link, but it fits with the behaviour of SE since. Why they felt like spending on the expansion content, but haven't updated on sales figures. Especially as they feel confident FF16 will eventually hit their target sales figures. Meaning it's just lagging more so than a disaster. I appreciate that update. Also subbed.

@@ThatsRoyodon’t believe in him about XVI man. If XVI hit all of their expectations, then why they didn’t post a sales update on the next milestone of FFXVI sales? The silence of SQEX on XVI’s&VIIR’s sales tells me those games are not selling well. If a product doesn’t sell well,and the company is silent about it, then as an investor you know the product/s just flopped.

The one who said that DQXII is gonna be a PS5 exclusive title is none other than Sackchief. He stated in some of his tweets,streams that DQXII is gonna be PS exclusive cuz he had a fear( unfounded one at that) that due to SQEX had a pattern that they had FF titles being PS exclusive. Ignoring the fact that it’s just FF titles that Sony wants but not their non-FF titles like Visions of Mana and ofc DQ games as well as Nier. Talk about intellectual dishonesty. I talked to him about it retracting his statement but well… let’s just say he wants to have his word out for the sake of clout and not correcting his mistake.

Ah yeah I also remember Sack saying in a livestream that he was convinced about DQ12 being PS5 exclusive because of 16 and Rebirth. I didn’t really question it tho because he brought up good points though at the time but yeah

I hope Square really does start to focus on releasing their games simultaneously on as many platforms as the game can run on. I think platform exclusivity has been hurting them for many years now. For instance, I suspect, though have no evidence to prove, that the sales for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters went up by a lot when they finally released them on consoles instead of only having them on PC and mobile. They also need to do a better job of making sure there is uniformity across platforms. It took them a shamefully long time to release Dragon Quest XI S on all platforms, add the updates from the Switch version of FFXII TZA to all platforms, and add the console updates to the FFPR games to mobile and PC. It would also be nice to see the FFVII games be available for Xbox and PC right at launch but it's too late for that now.
