Bollywood is currently declining in Sri Lanka. Bollywood had its peak in 90s. Today Sri Lankans who are listening to Arijit Singh are relatively very small comparing to the popularity Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik had in Sri Lanka. Of cause SRK is still the most famous actor in Sri Lanka. But in the last decade south indian movies taken over the hearts and minds of Sri Lankans. Most of university students in Sri Lanka thinks that there are no poor homeless people in western countries. Sri Lanka bankrupted 2 years ago because lack of financial literacy in people specially students like this. They don't even know how much India has developed. I've been to India several times. When I visited the North and South, I noticed that the South was much cleaner and reminded me a lot of Sri Lanka. People in the South were really friendly and humble. As a Sri Lankan who's not used to crowded places or heavy traffic, I found the North overwhelming. There was a lot of traffic and constant honking of horns. People didn't seem to follow traffic rules. Nobody wore seat belts. Bike riders often didn't wear helmets either. Nobody took the traffic light seriously. Maybe the road rules are not very strict there. Other than that, both North and South food is amazing. During our last visit, my family avoided street food and locals food shops based on our past experiences there, but we still got sick with diarrhea on our last day. Despite that, the food was totally worth it! ;) Also shopping in India is amazing!!

Lol... India's poverty rate is around 11-12% while SL's is 26%. Further, in India the poverty rate is declining fast while in SL it's increasing. India also helped SL to come out of the financial crisis (literally bankruptcy). Still they think there is more poverty in India. Yes, our average population is not rich but they are no more hand to mouth. They are earning, they are saving, their children are getting educated. Also, Infrastructure, businesses are booming and India is the fastest growing major economy. I've travelled to many places there delhi, Agra, jaipur, fatehpur sikri, allahabad(sangam period), benares, bodhgaya,kakirao, kolkota, mumbai, chennai, bangalore. My favorite place though is Kolkota. India is full of art wherever you go. Indian people are mostly very creative and hard working. They are excellent artists, poets. As a Sri Lankan I think India is a great country and growing rapidly. And it will become a very powerful country in the future But one thing I don’t like is they have brought a bad image of South Asia and south Asians to the world. When the rest of the world think of South Asia they compare all the countries in the region to India and think it is similar. Reputation of India and Indians in the world is bad because of various reasons like pollution and unhygienic conditions, extreme poverty,female sexually assault, religious extremisms, scammers, terrorism etc. when the rest of the world have a bad image of the region it affects everyone living in that region even though you are living in a separate country. If India is able to improve their image in the world it will be very beneficial for the region.

To be honest, as a Sri Lankan who lives in Australia, I have many Indian friends. We consider them as our relatives as where ever we go, we help each other and become friends very well than any other nations when living outside asia. I have been in India many times including Chennai, mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Hydrabad. I know these cities are very developed and lots of poor people there as well. People say India is not clean. This how far anti India propaganda has reached, you have a country literally next door which has been given billions of dollars in aid by India yet their people think India is a significantly poorer country than their own. Sri Lanka's own per capita GDP is only slightly higher than India's but that doesn't matter because purchasing power wise India is the third largest economy and way ahead of Sri Lanka. Somehow all these poor countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or even African countries have been brainwashed into believing that their country is much better than India. I blame the West and the Islamists for this mainly. Thankfully the leaders of these countries are educated unlike their general populace and thus maintain good relations with India.

India has few very rich people. But 75% Are very poor. Wealth is not evenly distributed. Rich people cintinue to suck the blood of poor people. Eg. Ambani. These Indian businessman pay small salary to employees and earn big profits. Its not fair. Government supports big businessmen. This is south asian culture. Distribution of wealth should be done by government. But these Governments don't care. Srilanka also has poor people. But as a %, much smaller than India.
