I think it's gonna be Snivy, Piplup, and Scorbunny. Serperior is based off of French royalty, Empoleon is based off of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Scorbunny line is based off of soccer/football. All of which fit perfectly in the France-based Kalos region.

I just read a theory that makes a lot of sense. The starters will be Snivy (Serperior's design is inspired by french royalty), Torchic (the rooster is the national animal of France), and Piplup (Empoleon is named after Napoleon). Also, in the trailers for the Indigo Disk DLC, in the part where they show all the returning starters, Snivy is shown with Rowlet, Torchic with Cyndaquil, and Piplup with Oshawott.

Most guesses I've seen online seem to concur that the Grass and Water starters are most likely to be Snivy and Piplup due to their final evolutions being based on French themes. I've seen some suggest Popplio as the Water starter, but I doubt it as its final evolution is has more Italian than French influences (and yes, ballet has its origins in Italy). As for the Fire starter, folks seem to be split between Torchic (the Gallic Rooster) and Scorbunny (with soccer being a major sport in France, as well as the "but Blaziken already has a Mega").

My theory is Snivy, Scorbunny, and Piplup. All of them have some kind of ties to France; Snivy line is based on French nobility, Piplup's final evolution is named after Napoleon (Empoleon), and Scorbunny is a football player (one of the first football clubs in Europe was in France).

@@namo2403 Snivy and Scorbunny's inspirations are in their design, not their names. Empoleon's Japanese name (Emperte) comes from Bonaparte. So, the English version uses one half of the name, and the Japanese version uses the other half.

Lockstin did a video on his theories for ZA a while ago and even included some art he commissioned as well as how aggressively French they were. Meganium gains Steel and becomes a barded bard knight with a lance. Emboar gains Fairy and becomes the embodiment of exaggerated French culinary etiquette. Inteleon gains the Ghost Type and becomes a phantom thief with spy cameras. I suggest watching it because it’s really cool to see what he did with them and why he designed them that way.

Personally, I feel like Snivy would makes sense being in Pokémon Legends of Z-A . Because Snivy is final form Serperior, was inspired based on King Louis The 14th of France and believe he was the supreme ruler of France of absolute monarchy. Which was why they named Serperior based on that fact. And Serperior design was based on The Bourbon flag design. Not to mention Pokémon X and Y and now for the upcoming Pokémon Legends of Z-A, this takes place in France.

They make enough sense, when you consider how well they’d translate into mega forms. Mega Serperior I can see being divisive in its appearance, but a Mega Feraligatr makes enough sense, and Mega Monferno, as a fighting type to begin with, just works pretty well, not to mention the alliteration.

I was thinking they’d keep the same theme being that the starters from the first legends game were from gens 2,5, and 7 but they just change the typings so we could probably end up with like tepig, chikorita, popplio or tododile, litten, snivy or any of those 6 paired together. I believe that we might be getting a choice of two starters pick. If you remember X & Y were the only games that allowed you to choose two starters from different sets. One couldn't mega (The Kalos starters), while the others focus on megas (Kanto starters) So I got a feeling that the Kalos starter will focus on being the mega starter, while the none-megas is unknown to me.

I'm really hoping for Tododile to be the water starter. I love Tododile it's my second favorite water starter. I would like for the fire starter to be Chimchar or Litten since I doubt S/V starters are an option. I dont care who the grass starter is as long as its not chickorita. I only like Treecko and Rowlet. Bulbasaur is ok. My water type starters are 1.Greninja, 2.Tododile, 3.Oshawatt, 4.Squirtle. the rest are irrelevant. I think Gen 4 fire starter, gen 9 grass starter, and gen 7 water starter following the same generational Pokemon pick four Legends Arceus, because the fire starter is from two generations before the ancient region of the mainline Pokemon game it takes place in, 3 generations ahead for the grass starter, and one generation for the water starter.
