We discuss the early pre order craziness. Do we really need to be ordering the 4K and Blu ray of a movie as soon as it hits theatres ? and before we've actually seen it ?
Also, with the rush of pre orders. e have a limited amount of time to view all of these things so... What still sits sealed in our collections.

Dust and scuff free when you keep them sealed 🙌🏼 I’m guilty of keeping some things sealed and watching the movies digitally at times. Quite a bit of my collection I also ‘own’ on iTunes. Sometimes I’m just too lazy to get the disc out.

@@PhillwithadoubleL Yeah same. My holy grail was the Black Emmauelle boxset last year on blu. Maybe if there is a proper George Romero someday I will buy it, but I currently stream everything directly from my laptop to projector and it is way too convenient.😁

I made myself a rule with sealed stuff. I've got to watch what Ive brought before buying anything new. The only thing I can buy is preorders, but I still haven't preordered anything yet. Think I have 6 titles left to watch.

@@PhillwithadoubleL Yes I have, I think the next purchase will be the fog and another 4k in the 2 for £30.Ive got a list, but trying to be sensible about it. Im down to 5 now.

@@MrMRoboto1 I’ve been casting my eye over the 2 for £30 too. Deemed my choices so far to be unnecessary at the moment, mainly upgrades on titles I already have. So… not rushing to them. Trying to hold strong.

It’s just a standard blu ray slip… with the blu ray disc. Not a 4k on this one yet, if I enjoy the movie I may upgrade. They had the blu on sale which made it more enticing than the 4k

The talk about the ltd edition extras has got me thinking, surely if you're purely only interested in the film then logically wouldn't a digital purchase make more sense ? The physical extras (I love a large book personally) are to tip us into going for the physical option aren't they? I suppose the directors comms and on-disc extras would still be a pull for potential buyers but not for those who only want the film alone.

True. I use a combination of physical and digital in fairness. As a collector, I like to have the movies I care about physically and to have access to all of the on disc features. I love the behind the scenes things and some interviews with the key players. The books are a nice addition to certain sets, generally if they get looked at would vary depending on title. Very rare that I get much use out of the booklets though. Art cards and posters, they seemed a nice addition at a point but now I realise that I just personally never use them.

@@PhillwithadoubleL yeah the posters and 'artcard' additions don't do much for me, I take them out of the box carefully have a look and then put them back never to see the light of day again. I'll always read the book/booklets though, they're a real winner with me.

@@CAH123 I put the lack of interest in the booklets for me more down to the limited time more than anything else. They’re just never the ‘priority’ when I have a new release. I don’t listen to as many audio commentaries as I would like to either.

Thinking of sealed items I've got a few but compared to most I'm probably not doing too bad. I bought 3 copies of Zombie Flesh Eaters from the US under the Zombie title about 4/5 years ago as it was released with 3 different lenticular 3D covers. Two remain unopened.

I see plenty of folks collect for the variations on cover art or slipcovers. I’ve been trying to avoid doing similar but so many times been sucked into double dipping.

I think having current theatrical movies for pre-order is potentially a double edged sword for the studios - yes they can capture people who have seen it at the cinema or are aware of the films existence from other advertisements who won’t see it at the cinema, however as you said it could also deter people from bothering with cinema exhibition, and just wait for the physical release.

I often wonder if it’s some kind of effort to cut marketing costs a little. Use that marketing while it’s already on its theatrical run to try and get those orders in. Also, I bet there’s a fair number of people who pre order, then see the movie, don’t think that much to the movie and forget the cancel that pre order.

Some of us actually like Limited edition sets, but I'm not sure i like the tone of this discussion, Phill. I don't poke fun at other collectors and the way they collect. If the film is all someone is interested in, then fine up to the individual to buy the standard edition but some of us actually like extras with editions and often revisit looking at them!

I know a lot of us like a limited edition. I like a limited edition… you’ve seen some of my collection and how I’ve collected. It was never intended to poke fun at anyone else and how they choose to collect. @@PhillwithadoubleL I know you collect Limited editions yourself. The comment was more directed at your guest. He clearly isn't a fan of the limited editions and that's fine but many of us do. I don't feel the need to defend them I just enjoy them and that is shown in my videos. Appreciate they aren't for everyone but many enjoy collecting them 👍

Maybe the film companies themselves don’t have enough data on what to actually do and what works best saleswise. So, in this drastically changed landscape they’re trying different things and getting that xp from all of it. Just my 2cents.

Valid. It’s difficult to judge the physical releases and numbers to produce now with digital and piracy taking big chunks from the market. The speed which these movies hit digital is incredible. Things have massively changed since Covid kickstarted the earlier digital releasing pattern

There is nothing wrong with collectors sets. Or those who collect those. Who folk who buy just steelbooks. We’re All Collectors together who enjoy the same thing. I’ve collected through VHS. Laserdisc DVD. Blu ray. 4K. Does it make me any less of collector if I now like editions with a little extra ? Is that something to be scoffed at. Glenn you yourself say you used to collect that stuff. Just because your passed that way of collecting shouldn’t be reason to look down upon people that do. Does it make them any less of a film fan ?

I never intended to come across with the impression that there’s something wrong with collectors sets. I love a collectors set… for the right movies for me (which is why that Mexico trilogy is firmly in pre order). We all enjoy these movies, we all collect in our own ways. I don’t look down on any collector. More the practises of some of the distributors that upsell (sometimes in the most basic of ways) us to paying the premium for these editions.

@@PhillwithadoubleL I agree the companies and their practices are something to be desired. I recently filmed an opening of the Leon everything Blu release ( won’t be up for a while ) and in that I say that these releases are feeling more and more underwhelming because they are now the norm - the ‘special’ status doesn’t really apply. Also. People will buy a release based upon the extras on the discs. Are the content of some Collector editions ( a booklet of book with writings ) not an extension to that. We are in a world now where to survive and stay relevant the companies have to produce more than a bulk standard release. Those items don’t hold a value for anytime at all. Meaning they are in sales mere weeks after release. The collectors sets are the distributions companies attempts at staying viable in an ever shrinking market place. So really to Collect these is assisting in them Maintaining life

@@ajsmovieplace the big draw for me with collecting any movie (beyond the movie itself) tends to be the extras on the disc. The behind the scenes stuff is always a massive draw. If it’s a favourite movie then yeah, I’ll get tempted to go for the collectors edition… but, hand on heart. A good chunk of the extra ‘stuff’ within these sets just doesn’t get a look in. A book / booklet may occasionally get a quick look but there’s not usually a lot in these collectors packages that gets a solid amount of use… I don’t like the nice hard box presentations of many of them though.

@@PhillwithadoubleL surely owning a nice edition of a film that you love makes it feel more complete though? I can understand if its a film you enjoyed but didn't love them just have a standard edition or steelbook. For me the additional artwork, content just adds to that enjoyment of the film . Yes it's the film ultimately but you feel like your getting something extra to celebrate it and like I do revisit all the content from time to time which adds to the watching experience ☝️

@@MattVs_Movies the nice edition doesn’t make it feel anymore complete for me. The extra bits and bobs, for me in terms of the physical items, generally never get looked at. A nice box I like to see on the shelf but it doesn’t feel any more complete. The thing that makes the package for me is the on disc content. I love seeing random stuff… like on the Eureka edition of Cujo, they had a disc with a Q&A with Dee Wallace from a convention (Monsterpalooza I think), that kind of thing is what makes a limited / collectors / special edition for me.
