I bought and tried out the Meinl today, works pretty well with acoustic guitar, the option to just use it in the same signal path isn't for audiophiles, but it is a nice feature. Will probably put a rubber mat below it, cause it's not as sticky as I'd like it to be. That'll probably solve any rumbling noise issues.
@PaoloMarelliGuitar Жыл бұрын
Nice! I prefer the separate signals of guitar and stomp, but having the option of one path is really handy. I didn’t have any rumbling issues but I understand it might be too slippery

I'm planning to make a digital stompbox for a friend of mine. I worried about not being able to put several samples due to memory limitations, so I really apreciated your opinion, when you say something like 'one sample is enough'. Thank you very much. Hugs from Spain.
@PaoloMarelliGuitar7 ай бұрын
Thank you and Yes one sample is more than enough, make sure the sample is full sounding, I found that samples that with scooped eq don’t translate too well bless tha PA has a sub

I have been using two Roland SPD One Kicks for some time now. One for bass and the other for snare. They are reliable and sound fantastic. I put them just in front of the base of my mic stand to lift my legs while sitting. So my feet constantly rest on two of the three (foldable) pieces of the stand. Otherwise it would be impossible to use as a singer.
@PaoloMarelliGuitar Жыл бұрын
That is a cool hack, I’m going to see if it works standing up

@MarcoStarink Жыл бұрын
@@PaoloMarelliGuitar Yeah, if so, glue some rubber pad on top of the foldable foot of the mic stand. Otherwise your foot will slide of easily.

It has very good sensitivity, no need to push or stomp with your foot too hard. The centre circle is not a button, is just the pick up area

Hey thanks for the great review! What's the plugin you use on ableton to turn the Meinl into a midi trigger?
@PaoloMarelliGuitar7 ай бұрын
I don't use it with the Meinl, but I used to use it with an old piezo stomp that I had and the plugin was DSP trigger, I never had consistent results though

I could never get a consistant volume on the thump on the Roland Spd. Tried everything. strapping bits of metal to shoes, adjusting all the knobs. Ended up selling it.

I’m run it into a preamp plugin with a bit of compression and eq and that seems to do the trick. But I understand sometimes gear doesn’t work the way you need it to

Trying to use the spd kick through the line input on Roland AC33 amp, guitar through the guitar input. Any time I hit the SPD one my guitar volume drops. Can anyone help? Both the SPD and the amp are mains powered
@PaoloMarelliGuitar5 ай бұрын
I suspect that in this case it is the amp that is limiting. Try and turn both guitar and stomp volume down, that should attenuate the limiting effect

Would be great to see the difference between sitting down in a studio and standing up at a gig when playing a stomp box....
@PaoloMarelliGuitar2 ай бұрын
I don’t find the experience much different, what aspect would you be interested in seeing? I play regularly so can do a walk through
@HappyDays-l7l2 ай бұрын
@@PaoloMarelliGuitar If I play an SPD sitting down it's fine. If I have to play for 45-1.30 then it's a killer on my ankle. However - using a regular BD pedal and a KD7 pad is much more comfortable. Thus 100% of videos on YT of people playing stomp boxes are sitting down 100% of the time. Haven't seen a single video with someone playing upgright,. Not one. Would be great if you could share a link of someone STANDING UP playing a stomp box! Have a great day!
@PaoloMarelliGuitar2 ай бұрын
@@HappyDays-l7l I think that the movement using a normal kick pedal is a little different as you don’t have to overextend your foot as much. With a stomp box you kinda have to overextend, for me having something under the heel to get level with the edge of the stomp box helps, but I purposely avoid having more than 3 song in a row in which I play it otherwise I get tired and it hurts (I always play standing up live). I know a few people that turn the stomp box the other way around and stomp it with the heel and they all say it’s easier

Just bought the STB1 on your recommendation, a bit disappointed as the button is very sensitive to the position of your foot, you have to work pretty hard to make sure you hit it actively the same way each time or the volume is drastically different. Obviously can’t comment on whether the other two are better for this but we warned, I’m not that impressed with the STB1.
@PaoloMarelliGuitar5 ай бұрын
Position is quite important on all the stomps I talked about, like any other instrument they need some technique. I personally don’t find it hard to play the STB1 but I find the fact that the are of triggering is small an advantage because it limits triggering it by mistakes. But I understand that what I like might not be the same for others

Apart from drum machines like beat buddy, I don’t know anything else that can do that, but I am sure there’s alternatives to it. Not the thing for me though. To each one its own ;)
