See, I often get stuck in the "must learn everything all at once" pit. I get overwhelmed and then quit before I even manage to try. This was a nice eye-opener and reminder that no one expects me to be a master right away. Neo-traditional is definitely calling my name!

I have this same issue. I know a lot of it is because of my ADHD lol. I draw everyday even at work and realism is my thing. I want to learn everything but I know realism is my calling even before this video it just looks so hard because you can't erase mistakes lol.

Realism Is The Way 🔥🔥🔥

I really love ornamental and dotwork style work - so that's what I've decided to learn. I find thats what I naturally gravitate towards and enjoy drawing as well.

Great video! In my opinion the best style to go for and learn is Realism. I'm a graphic designer trying to get into this business and would like to learn the basics first. I just went to a Tattoo convention for the first time in my life and wow! I was amazed and inspired by many artist's work. I think 80% of the artists there were doing Realism. Some with color and some in black and gray.

What I gather from these videos is that you should be open to any style. I agree with picking a style and learning it but you have to have your basic fundamentals down. In my opinion it is best to understand art in general like understanding where to place shadows and highlights and if you are doing portraits than you should have a good understanding of human anatomy but that also works for other styles because understanding how muscles lay and stuff. Yeah I think this will make sense when you read it lol

can you talk about tribal, Celtic, and mechanical tattoo styles please?

I tend to get overwhelmed very easily, feeling like there's too much to learn and I'm not good enough at anything. Is there a realistic timeline what is achievable to learn in a certain timeframe? Sure, it all depends how many hours you put into it but sometimes I wonder if I'm already to late to start learning how to tattoo at 29 years old.
@jolenemeverden66032 ай бұрын
Your never to old, im 46 started learning at 44 and one in the tattooing 101 group is in their 70s so if that's your passion do it
@Tattooing1012 ай бұрын
Starting at 29 is absolutely not too late-plenty of successful artists began later. Learning to tattoo is a process, and yeah, it can feel overwhelming, but setting small goals can help. In the first year, focus on basics: linework, shading, and cleanliness. Mastering fundamentals can build your confidence and skill without burning you out. Keep steady, and remember, no one's journey is exactly the same.

what type of machine i should buy if i want to do blackwork/blackouts (?)
@Tattooing101Ай бұрын
For blackwork or blackouts, look for a rotary machine with a strong motor and a long stroke length (4.0mm or higher). It’ll pack solid black more efficiently and handle larger areas without overworking the skin.
@boenkie1918Ай бұрын
I will buy my first tattoo machine soon. Im thinking about getting the inkjecta flite nano. I Will buy some fake skins to practice. Im only interesten in practicing realism. Do you think its a good idea to straight ahead dive in some portraits? Or do you think its best to first do some other style because its easier but i already know I will never tattoo that Ever.
@Tattooing101Ай бұрын
Practice what you're interested in. If realism and portraits are your goal, dive in! Start with portraits or break them down-focus on features like noses, eyes, and proportions to build your skills step by step

I was told using a pin style is best for beginners 😅
@Miss_Annlaug2 ай бұрын
Also: a beginner should be well rounded. New artist need to learn many different things. Not pick a style before they even learn the t3chniand basics. I agree with a lot of this video though good advice❤
