Disagreed. India, TN and other states should take garments industry from BD. Let them go bankrupt

India was home of textile industry. It had surplus Cotten, numerous textile mills, powerloons! It could have become a hub for ready made garments! In comparison Bangladesh had jute mills and jute! India let slip that advantage ! Culprits were Marathi trade unionists who hate Gujarati mill owners! They won't let modernize textile industry or nor allow to sell ! Bangladesh took advantage of this situation. In early 90s Bangladesh switched to ready made garment industry! India just can't compete! Indus export raw material! This lady doesn't want to implicate unions who destroyed whole industry!

Bangladesh has a rich history of the cotton industry since the mogul era . Muslin was the famous product of it

@@kingstone6297 yes but cotton was not the main crop. It came from other parts of India. Bengal was known for its weaving industry.

@@kingstone6297 In those days india had lots of textile mills and power looms, hand looms! ATIRA in Ahmedabad was well known textile research institute! God knows what they researched but nothing can save Indian textile industry! Some 150 years of industry destroyed as government supported hand looms and very high labor lazy itextile industry! All mills gone! Few Jean making and surat’s sari making survived!

I'm a Maharashtrian from Mumbai and I agree. The problem was the protectionist policies demanded by Bal Thackeray to capture the Marathi votebank from the NCP and Congress. The trade unions just made this worse. However it's not too late yet to recapture the global readymade garments market share by bringing in new and innovative technologies in the textile sector in order to reduce the turnaround time.

India tends to impose irrational tariff and non-tariff barriers on bangladeshi products being pressurised by the All India Associations of particular products. This parochial approach hinders the access of Bangladeshi products to Indian market and significantly widens the trade deficit between the two countries. This negative mindset does not go with the spirit of liberal international trade order.

I know India imposes tariffs only on jute. Which is fair as it is an anti-dumping duty measure. Which other export from Bangladesh is tariffed irregularly by India? Additionally, Bangladesh imposes various tariffs and restrictions on goods imported from India. What is your opinion on that?

@@sadanandgote5544 Our puppet government supported by India did not even dare to raise any issues in the international forums. The reckless killings of Bangladeshi citizens in the border was not raised in the international court, nor the unilateral withdrawal of water by India from the transboundary rivers such as Teesta and Ganges.

@@nawsherahmedsikder2137That's the sad reality of Bangladesh, BD always had authorratorion Govt be it Haseena or Zia, the only reason India feels comfortable with Awami League because she cracked up the extremist who were using your territory to do Jihad in India, and if you don't remember India in the past has also provided her shelter, also I still have not seen any reasonable explanation as to why the statues of Mujib we're desecrated? That only shows the general population rejects the notion of separation of West Pakistan in 71, so that's what came out in the open and it's no more a secret that the main reason for this revolution is to create an Islamic state....

How unfortunate that you say ‘is it our pain or our gain’. Very insensitive to talk this way. How are we different from other countries when we see it from a “gain” perspective. When people are suffering, that’s no one’s gain. Our selfish reasons are half the reasons for geopolitical/socioeconomic problems in the world.
