Yeah, i had a long section about the footprint in the video I decided to edit away because that was one more thing you need to take with you. I was going to buy a footprint, but it was not in store when i bought the tent and i have never come around buying it later. I think i will try it before upgrading my tent, because the condensations is the main reason i'm looking into a new tent.

I own a Hilleberg Nammatj 3 gt tent, because I'm gonna use it in Norway 2023 and on Island in 2024 - I want to be ready for heavy winds and bad weather! So I tought no compromises on my shelter. Another great vid Thomas, your so lucky to be able to just stop somewhere really nice for the night, its not possible to do that in the UK (can in scotland, but not sure if you can do it from a vehicle). The other issue in the UK would be security, you might wake up in the morning and find your bikes gone over here 😔. its difficult to reduce what you carry on a bike, you want comfort and warmth, but don’t want to lug around too much weight or bulk.

Greetings from Western Norway. Thanks for your informative videos. TENT: I recommend a FREE-STANDING tent. Because the tent can be moved after it is set up, and it will stand on a hard surface without pegs. I use Hilleberg Allak 2. It is very quick to set up, and is very spacious for 1 person with luggage. The inner tent can easily be partially disconnected from the outer tent, so that the tent can be used as e.g. bathroom or kitchen. A footprint is recommended for less condensation. It prolongs the life of the tent and can also be used as a tarpaulin. CHAIR and SLEEPING PAD: I also recommend an insulated inflatable sleeping pad, with a CHAIR KIT. My chair kit is always on. It protects my mattress from punctures, and the thick soft mattress chair is my evening luxury in camp. I think that a good sleeping pad is more important than a good sleeping bag (- put on more clothes!). SLEEPING BAG: Norway is a mountainous country, and sometimes you find the perfect campsite high in the mountains. Then it is important to have a good sleeping bag, because the temperature decreases by approx. 1 ℃ per 100 meters above sea level. When it is 15 ℃ by the fjord means that it is approx. 5 ℃ 1000 meters higher up. BUT I would not recommend a sleeping bag insulated with down, because I have experienced that down insulates very poorly when it gets wet, something you have to reckon with in Norway. A sleeping bag with SYNTETIC FIBRE is heavier and larger (and cheaper) than a down bag, but keeps you warm and saves your night's sleep (and the following nights) even when it is wet. A synthetic fiber sleeping bag also has the advantage that you can DRY CLOTHES while sleeping. - Wear dry clothes on the inside, and the wet clothes on the outside. Lie down in the sleeping bag, and wake up with all your clothes dry. Ride safe! - Then you get to ride again.

Hello my friend 👏🏻This was a really detailed post and alot of good insight. I have been looking at the Hilleberg Tent's as well, but the pricetag is way over my limit, and the inner telt are just to short for me. I know it is probably the best tentmaker in the world. I got a footprint for my tent after this video, but i have not had the pleasure of testing it yet. The problem with the chair kit, is that you need the pad to have a chair. Yes, this is ok when you are at camp an have to take out the pad anyway, but i do set up my chair sometimes when lunching etc... so i find blowing up and down my pad is just to much of a hassle. Well.... you are absolutely right about the syntetic Fiber bags, but it takes up way to much space to be of good use on a "light weight" adventure ride like i do. Yes, i see other ride with much larger baggage solutions, but still i'm not sure i would recommend a syntetic one. I would rather spend that night in a cabin something similar and dry up everything if i could. But your points are valid for sure. Yeah, this can be a valuable tip here as well, but keep in mind the sun start shining on your tent at 06:00 in the morning and it transform your tent to a damn furnace in 10 sek. If you add a tarp above your tent, you can eliminate this problem. But we all have our different preferences 🔥Cheers mate. Stay safe

Hi, nice review. I would like to suggest you try the Decathlon Fresh & Black series tents, you get a pretty much pitch black interior so you can sleep well at night and it will keep the sunlight at bay in the early morning to let you enjoy your sleep for a bit longer. The tents aren't as light as others on the market but, they are really good. They're the self standing type with a rugged floor, another plus is that the fresh & black cover can be removed if it's very hot and/or if you want to air the tent out before putting it away. I use a tarp under the tent as the terrain in my part of Spain is very rocky and hard packed.

I purchased a Decathlon black-out tent for the exact reason of sunrise. I've also purchased the Amok wonterlite pad. In Ireland we still have plenty of forest, but it's owned by the Forestry and you're not supposed to camp in them without permission. This means a lot of my camping is on treeless environments, meaning a tent is more useful than a hammock

@@tshansen yes, it's amazing. It let's just enough light in through the fabric that you can only just make out the outline of your hand if you held it out in front of you. It's very effective imo. It's the 2minute tent for 2x people. The one you pull a string at both ends. The tent is fully erected & pegged in under 3-4 mins

Great video thomas ! I agree with pretty much everything you said. Comfort is an important thing when it's related to motocamping. It's my second season only but i'm really happy with the equipment i have. Tent : Vango halo 200 pro (a 2 person tent with 2 doors, and 2 covered storage outside to put my bags and boots). It's not the lightest 2 people tent, but it can handle a strong wind and a lot of rain. Sleeping pad : i put some money on this, as i have a back injury, and i need some good support. I bought a Sea to summit comfort plus Self inflating. This pad is really thick, and REALLY confortable, and it does not make some rattling sounds when you move on it. It packs bigger than other pads though, but it's fine for me. The valve system is really convenient. Sleeping bag : i went for a synthetic one, easier to dry and cheaper than the equivalent with down. I went with the sea to summit trailhead III. It's a simple sleeping pad, it packs maybe a little too big for motocamping though. I dont use any tarp, or footpring, but i might consider these for next seasons. I dont use any pillow either, but it's a personnal preference. One tip that i can share : i use a separated drybag for my sleeping pad only (SW motech drybag 180), the idea behind it, is that when you are leaving your campsite, and it's raining, your tent will end up wet even when packed, and you dont want your sleeping bag being wet. (My sleeping pad can be wet, it is not a problem)

Thanks for the video. I can understand what you mean about all four seasons in the same day. It’s really fascinating to ride over a mountain road in May, with full winter up in the mountain, down to a valley where it’s spring or early summer. Okay technically you have two or maybe three seasons. You will only have winter, spring and summer and no autumn but it’s still fascinating.

Well, the reason we say four season is because our autumn are know for it's great winds and heavy rain. And sometimes, out of nowhere the wind can really be scare some places. The same reason you will see alot of sailboats running on engines inside our fjords, because of the fall wind or what you say in English 😊Stay safe mate.

Nice I also have an Exped mat, its the 10 centimeter one, called "Mega mat" it's awesome.. Ive tried all the "light weight" options and they always leave me completely shattered the next morning. My mat fills up a lot of my bags/panniers but I wouldn't trade it for a good nights sleep.

Damn right about comfort temperature of sleeping bag in Norway. Mine was a bit too cold so on those rainy days during my trip I used to boil water, fill it in to the empty soft drink bottle and throw inside my sleeping bag. Really great stuff if you are in trouble.

Hello mate, are you back home safe? Yeah, i had a section in the video about tips towards keeping warm if you have a lighter sleeping bag, but i edited it away and will probably keep it to another video. It is easy to chew over too much when you are sticking to a topic and try to keep it short 🤣There is another good option to hot water bottle. A liner bag you can put over your sleeping bag. That will increase the comf temp some. But nothing like a hot water bottle. I prefer to use a Naglene bottle, the soda or soft drinks bottles has a tendens to melt when you put boiling water in it. It was only 9 day trip and matter of fact could not be longer as it appeared Finland been closing down (atleast for self-isolation) just a day or two after I crossed it on a way home. We all started out somewhere. The weight difference is minimal if you look into it. But the space is so much better. And in need, you can have a friend inside the tent if you need to. Camping is nothing to be scared of mate. Start out small, visit a caravan park or a camping spot, do it with someone and take small steps towards wildcamping. Taking a dump in the wild is much better than on the toilet at home, trust me! A solid pro tip... always have with you wetwipes 🔥

Howdy neighbour. I have a Helsport Lofoten superlite for hiking, but chose a self standing Exped Orion II Extreme for motorcycle camping. It's taller than Helsport's Reinsfjell and has a ton of smart features. I hate spending time on putting down pegs if I don't have to! We also have roughly the same sleeping mat. I got the Synmat 9 LW for motorcycle camping. I had the lighter Downmat 7 UL for hiking from before. When it comes to comfort they are FAR superior to those thin, self-inflating or foam mats.

The longest self standing tent i have come across is helsport reinsfjell 3. Yeah, i have the 7 cm for hiking as well, but i pick the 9 cm every time i'm out hiking as well. I cant go without it.

Thank for the review on your equipment. You also said you like drinking from rivers. What about bacteria in the water? There are so many good filters and filtering options on the market. Why risk it? Drinking contaminated water. I live in Texas and even in the higher elevations or northern latitudes of this country I’m not sure I would trust the lack water born bacteria. Or did I miss something? I also wish I could ride my adventure bike in Norway. There’s a lot of history in Norway. 🇺🇸

Thank you Darryl. Well, here in Norway we are blessed with some of the purest water in the world. And maybe there is some genes left in us from the viking age. I have never used filter here in Norway, as long as it's running water the risk is so small i dont bother. But your point is solid and getting sick because of contaminated water is many days with pain and suffering. Yes, there is alot of history here. I know there is whole towns with old Norwegian people over there. My grandfathers brother went to USA to try his luck. Question on the sleeping bag: You advise a comfort temp of -10 on the sleeping bag, mine has a comfort temp of -2 (Cumulus) and am wondering what you would suggest to top up de temperature? Would maybe a liner like SeatoSummit thermolite or reactor extreme do? As a pad I very likely will be using an Exped Megamat (10cm) or tmaybe Termarest Mondoking. Or is there no need to up the comfort temp. during the summer months (June/July/August)?

Hello Inge, and thank you for the great question. Let me try to answer the best i can. The weather and temps up here are variable and can change fast. In the mountains you can experience low temps even in summer. And, if you use a -2 bag, i would advice to have wool underwear you can wear inside the bag if it’s under 10 degrees and if it get’s colder you can use a heat bottle…. This helps a lot.

Heat bottle that is something to think about - for now I have added the StS reactor extreme to my Norway shopping list since I get cold pretty easily. @@theroamingrover-montys_way Yeah Sleep liner is amazing and will help a lot 👏🏻 Yeah, the weather and temp variates a lot depending on how high or low you are, and in some valleys it will be more wind that others etc. Just keep an eye out for the weather forecast. The one that is native on the iPhone is quite good.

Of course mate, but even if i love the Draumr and use it alot, some of my adventures is better with a tent. It all depends on where i'm going and what i do on the trip. And i got alot of question lately about what equipment i recommend for camping in Norway 🔥
