If Terry is still rich, they could tie that into Johnny's rich dad somehow. And of course, looking at his garage, Silver may visit Daniel's dealership to add to his collection. There are several great ways he can be written in to Season 4, if they choose. *On making his knuckles bleed:* It's interesting that the wooden dummy is so strong, it was designed for pain, but eventually Daniel does demolish it, as if passing a test. And rather than react unexpected, Terry seems proud of him. Even at the club, if I didn't know any better, I'd think he took a liking to ol' Danny-boy. I like the observation of Silver getting that thrill of being a kid at the nightclub, and if he and Kreese (as Cobra Kai punks) used to be that way when they were young. These are great, man!

I think another great example of Terry's lust for power is when he cons Daniel and Myagi, he gets a smirk of joy as he walks out of those conversations knowing that they are buying into his act, and his plan is working well. When he fights Barnes off for Daniel, he enjoys the power he has over Barnes, grabbing him by the back of his head threatening to harm him if he sees him near Daniel again. He yells "DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" Then literally kicks him out commanding him "get the hell out of here" He stays calm to act like a good teacher for Daniel, but his smirk is still there, he just finds good ways to disguise it, like pretending to be impressed with Daniel's sweep kick. When he leaves, and Daniel thanks him a 2nd time, he barely turns his head for half a second, to wave and then walks away because he was so ready to laugh or just fully embrace his smirk of joy for having power over everyone.

Terry Silver has always been my favorite character in the karate kid universe (sorry Stingray), but part of that was because he was so over the top and his plan never actually made sense. I LOVE your interpretation of him as an obsessive control freak -- possibly with suppressed PTSD from Vietnam -- who compensates for his meekness and weakness in real battle by becoming a bully to anyone he can. When Kreese -- the hero who saved him -- falls on hard times, Terry has to prove to himself that he can conquer the people who conquered Kreese. Otherwise he's just that scared little boy in Vietnam after all, and all the money in the world won't satisfy his opinion of himself. That's WAY better than "Psh a millionaire wouldn't waste his time hurting a kid." Thank you for your interpretation. It'd be amazing if they had Thomas Ian Griffith play a nuanced version of Terry in his old age, still struggling to control and dominate everyone. Kinda like how Dolph Lundgren took Drago from a one-note monster to an older man with real demons. TIG, please know that your performance in KK3 is what made me love the series, and that ever since cobra Kai came out, my friends and I have been talking about how much we want to see your return.

I think that Thomas Ian Griffith’s scariest role was in Vampires (1998), but Karate Kid 3 is a close second. He stands at just under 6’5”, while Pat Morita was a tiny 5’3”. The contrast in height and reach in that dojo fight scene made Miyagi’s victory all the more impressive.

War can do an awful lot of things to people. Perhaps Silver was so in awe of Kreese as he saved his life by stopping him fighting their CO when captured in the flashbacks (as well as all the other times), combined with all the other horrors he likely came across, that he began emulating Kreese's new found "no mercy" concept to the extreme out of reverence and survival. As he became more succesful after his military service, the more he likely double downed on that concept, as it had given him the success he had.

They’re planting the seeds that Silver was kind of a pussy as a soldier. Kreese saved him so many times that he made himself rich and studied karate to compensate. This is why he’s a sociopath.

This video explains a lot around Terry's betrayal in Cobra Kai. In KK3, Kreese comes to him a broken man and everything that happens in the film is driven by Silver, whilst Kreese steps aside and lets him get on with it. In Cobra Kai, Kreese enlists his support but is quick to remind Silver that he's in charge and they'll do things his way, referring to him as "Lieutenant" and referencing the Vietnam war cage to put him in his place and keep him in line. Silver clearly struggles with this, and ultimately takes Kreese out of the picture to take control himself. Great analysis in this video that was clearly on the money.

Favorite villain in all of the Karate Kid films. I thought for decades how ridiculous it was that two grown men (Kreese and Silver) would go so far out of their way to attack a 16-year-old kid. Your videos really help resolve their motivations and help me appreciate the films and these characters even more. I have no doubt the Cobra Kai writers are analyzing the character as much as yourself and probably even watched your videos. Remember out of Kreese, Danial, Johnny, Chozen, Silver and Barnes, only Chozen and Silver are most likely active in training karate for a long period of time. Danial only sparred a little with his daughter when young and Johnny likely didn't train for 34 years until he opened the dojo in season 1.

There's the scene at silvers house where krease says he'd pay him back the back rent so yeah, would've made more sense if he'd said I'll pay you back the loan you gave me for the dojo.

@@Danielperez-to6vh Well, it was hinted for a bit in s2e4 that Kreese is pretty "honorably" independent for the most part. He was offered a job with a "friend" after the dojo went out of business, but turned it down because he saw it as a handout. I think that if anything, Terry gave a kickstart payment for the first Cobra Kai Dojo (Like Sid's money was used for Johnny to reopen later) and then Kreese used the revenue from teaching to take it from there. THEN, of course as a thank you Kreese maybe made sure Terry got a % from the dojos earnings as well, which is why he was so upset about having to close it down later. Given this hint about Kreese's personality and relationship with Terry, he maybe made a personal commitment to pay back Terry's down payment in full and came up short by KK3- to which Terry didn't even care.

Love Terry Silver. I once saw him listed on a list of TOP 10 EVIL GENIUSES in films and I was so happy. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Perhaps because KK3 is not the greatest movie overall, or perhaps because of franchise boredom during the 80s and early 90s. Terry Silver has always stood out to me like a Bond villain. Money and power behind him, enough charisma to carry off an act and pretend to get the protagonist on side, and a vicious streak a mile long. If KK3 had been a series back in the day I think we would have seen Barnes beat Daniel and Silver get his wish of Cobra Kai dojos across the state.

For me, the last thing you said is what is going to happen in season 4, Robby will beat Miguel in the tournament and Terry silver along Kreese will open a lot of Cobra Kai dojos across the valley. I mean they want ot continue the series for at least two more seasons after season 4, so if you make that miguel wins, what kind of plot will you make instead? Add a new bad guy for only two seasons? Robby will leave Cobra Kai, but after defeating miguel, so, even if Robby leaves cobra kai, that victory will be useful for kreese and Silver to get known cobra kai as the better karate dojo, and more kids will want to join them.

Such a good video! You brought up so many interesting points. I'm apparently one of the few people who genuinely loves TKK3. Yeah it wasn't a great movie, but Silver is such a fascinating and entertaining villain. Plus, all the relationship stuff with Daniel and Miyagi was so heartbreaking. I'm so excited for them to revisit all of this in Season 4!! Silver is gonna be even more evil this time around because he'll be wanting revenge for himself this time. I also can't wait to see how he and Daniel will be when they have to interact again.

I think the fact his only morals is for a teenage boy to get deadly hurt- without fully meeting him before making his revenge plot is terrifying. Daniel must’ve been TRAUMATIZED at that tournament after realizing that not only is kreese wanting him dead- but also a very powerful millionaire who has the power to hire ANOTHER very powerful person (Barnes) to TRY AND KILL HIM. like- the kid can’t catch a break, in KK 1, he was being traumatized by another peer who also wanted him hurt, in KK 2, a random Okinawian who ALSO WANTS HIM HURT, and in KK 3 he has 3 GROWN MEN COMING AFTER HIM. and that’s not even including cobra Kai where all 5 of them wanna come full-force on him. Gawsh child abuse anyone?

this is very interesting to watch after season 4, the show clearly went in the opposite direction regarding Kreese - Silver relationship. turns out Silver really did crave Kreese's approval, to the point he breaks down when he finds out Johnny Lawrence is "Kreese's weakness". but there's truth to the notion that Silver's ultimate goal in life is to be in control of every situation, which is why he concocts a scheme to put Kreese away, to free himself of his "weakness".

He seems like the type that actually feels intense emotion. That’s why he needs to be in control and have status to avoid feeling powerless. He is a type of coward in that he must overcome his opponents indirectly through traps and machinations to insure his success. He’s not the type why can confront his fears or stand up for himself head on, most likely due to having an extremely powerful father who would never allow even the slightest hint of disrespect. He’s a Dark Empath, most likely, starting out life as an extremely sensitive person who was abused or chided until the “good” aspects of his sensitivity were completely suppressed. As a result his empathy became twisted so that he feels genuine pleasure when he sees other people in pain. Kreese is emotionally “stronger” than Silver, he’s stoic and resolute so he is more of a natural “alpha,” feels little actual empathy but is strongly principled. He is the classic primal “man”, the type of man Silver’s father most likely chided Silver for not being. Silver has no real sense of who he is and so is drawn to Kreese who in stark contrast has a very strong sense of identity. Silver needs a ton of money and status and showmanship to feel the same level of power. The reason Silver can seem like a completely different person when we first see him again is because, that’s who he is when he is whole and the good side of him is not suppressed. It’s not that the evil is surpressed. When Kreese comes back and manipulates and guilt trips him, his survival mechanism kicks in and that side of him retreats back into his subconscious, creating “evil” Silver.

I love this analysis. I think in many ways Terry Silver is the ultimate troll. The scene in which he laughs his ass off even after having been beat by Miyagi and covered in paint stands out to me so much. He ought to be humiliated but that sick troll laugh is its own victory in what should have been a defeat.

Watching this and the previous video on Terry actually has brought up some very rather interesting points that even I had overlooked. In regards with Terry I feel like it can go into one of two ways: 1. While Kreese can be a bastard as we seen him in the movies and in the show, season 3 DID manage to give us a peek on another softer side of Kreese and not in reference to the young Kreese Flashbacks but so the one on one interaction he had with Tori - while one can say he was manipulating her for his own use for a strong force for Cobra Kai with Miguel out of the picture, he seemed to showcase for form of genuine interest in his student and able to relate with her being someone who had to fight her whole life which he relates to especially when he opened up about his own mother. Something I am sure Kreese has never done with any other student not even Johnny. Furthermore going as far as acting as a protector and insuring the scumbag landlord wouldn't even dare even set eyes on Tori again. So Kreese still has those human qualities to him but I think that whatever happened to him in the war and if my theory is correct, and if what Kreese's mom had was hereditary could likely have passed on to him as well, only makes him that much more worse and depending on where exactly Silver is now financially, we could possibly see history repeating itself of Terry pulling strings. OR Terry maybe is changed and maybe all it takes is Kreese to get the ball rolling again but only to an extent and Kreese may be worse now than what Silver was then..... So far though Cobra Kai has been about bringing the good and bad and showcasing them in this grey area where is no bad or good; just perspective and it will be interesting to see what they do with Silver.

You’re absolutely right in your thinking. Silver totally wants power and knows Kreese wouldn’t really challenge his need for control. And in season 4 of Cobra Kai when Kreese starts to challenge Silver, that’s when Silver realizes his weakness with Kreese and takes total control of Cobra Kai.

Again, your videos provide a lot of insight into characters I previously found to just be one dimensional cartoon villains in flesh form. I don’t know how much of it was intentional and how much of it is an audience interpretation... but regardless, it gives the Cobra Kai writers a lot to work with and I’m sure they’ve considered all this while writing Terry and then some.
