I worked in a county jail, not a great job experience. But I interacted with inmates all the time. Most were pretty down to earth, no matter the charge. It really put a different perspective on it for me. They even rented a unit got federal inmates too. I saw many an inmate awaiting "chain" as the called it. I know it wasn't prison, but I saw and recognize a lot of what you mention in your videos. Inmates gambling commissary, phone calls, visitation, etc. I love watching your videos. I saw how a lot of the officers were, making it difficult for the inmates. My whole shtick was "I don't care what you do, just don't do it in front of rank, and don't do anything that makes me have to write a report". I wasn't there to make their lives harder than it already was. I really like the flipside perspective you provide.

A side note to that: When a prisoner is terminally ill with 6 months left to live, and gets released "on compassionate grounds," it's really just because the BOP doesn't want to pay for the inmate's end-of-life care.

Hey Larry, former max/close security officer here. Just gonna say I agree with what you said 100%. I dunno where this guy got this information from, but not all of it is true. At the prison I worked in, we tried our best to identify the various gang affiliations, and separated obvious issues. You obviously couldn't have two rivals being in close proximity with each other and the like because that was just trouble waiting to happen, and my facility had a couple of different dorms types. We had one we all called the "honor dorms", which is where the older guys or the very well behaved orderlies went, sometimes if guys were playing it nice for long enough they were considered, and then you had the ACU's (basically the hole for inmates with mental instability things going on). We also had a separate yet connected facility where inmates no longer considered a major threat went, and usually those guys were gonna be out pretty soon or they were about to be transferred to a lower level security. The process I've seen was basically get papers done, get strip searched, get suited up in your first DoC jumpers, and assign a temporary dorm until higher ups figured out where they wanted you. When they got their briefing, typically the Warden was there but sometimes if he wasn't able to get to it the Deputy Warden of security would do it, the newbies learned to stand up at attention REAL quick, learned the lay of the facility, all the important faces (medical, mental health, big name officers, PREA team, etc) though half of them never showed up even though they are listed to arrive on the schedule, and were sent back to their housing with a pack. Sometimes they sat there for a week or longer, but during that time they got their DoC ID and for the most part, I can guarantee you, 99% of those new faces that never been to prison were shaking in their trousers, even though they weren't really in that much danger, being in the newly booked dorms, and separated from the other knuckleheads that probably would do something to cause issues. This is a really cool insight from the perspective of someone that's been in the system man, keep doing these videos, always glad to see an ex-con that's going to the straight and narrow, and I'll probably even check your book out sometime. Cheers!

If that’s why you don’t like infographics then you should take what this guy says with skepticism. He’s wrong a lot and I don’t know if he does it on purpose or just doesn’t realize it but he often acts as if his opinions or experiences are facts, simply because he doesn’t know better. Infographics usually gets like 80% of the facts right, but on this channel if your actually fact checking, can be far worse. Especially when it comes to religion, one of his videos I saw like a year ago still bugs the crap out of me today it was just so bad to the point I would consider what he claimed to be slander and lies.

The ink issue actually depends on the size of the town you're arrested in. I was "inked" in 2011 (fairly recently) in Hawthorne, Nevada. A true middle-of-nowhere kind of town. An interesting side note: That same jailed allowed cigarette smoking so long as you did it outside in the rec area, which is a huge no-no in most other places. You had to get arrested with your own cigs, you could borrow from the guards though if they smoked.

Hey Larry I'm really enjoying your videos. I was a corrections officer for about 2 years in a state prison, and your videos are like a walk down memory lane. Also, I have never ever heard of officers putting their hands on an inmate during a strip search either. I was very surprised to hear that in the infographics video.

Infographics makes a lot of mistakes, but that happens when you make so many videos on a large variety of subjects relatively quickly. Watching their videos is a good way to get some basic knowledge on a subject, but if one wants to actually get into said subject, videos like yours are the way to go to set things straight.

The problem is if you can't trust one of their facts, you can't trust any of them. What is the point in watching one of these infographics shows if it could be total nonsense? it's worse than wasting your time because you might then repeat false info to someone. There are a lot of these "quick facts" "top 10" cheaply made animated videos on youtube, and a lot of them are total bunk, made in foriegn countries for the ad revenue. All of them recorded with a silly way of talking almost like a hollywood announcer. (I've really grown to dislike that voice a lot of "documentary" youtubers put on, like the bald guy you see who's on like 10,000 youtue channels such as the biographics one - that bizzare overly dramatic, drawn out way of speaking trying to add more drama).

Hi Larry, thanks for your program, I, myself have not been in a (prison), but I have been locked up in a County Jail for six months, long story, wrong place, wrong time, drug related, and this facility was terrible, wasn't my first time in jail but it was the longest, I violated probation by leaving town with my boyfriend for a few years, anyway, it was like a secure prison, was doublelocked for 3 day's while they did the TB thing, like your not going to spread TB if you have it anyway, everytime I had a visit I was striped search, funny, but not really, my son was in there at the same time for child support and I sat on the outside so I got striped searched instead of him, my lawyer said it was the worst thing I could hade done, that I already did 1 month, only 5 more to go, the yard which we got a hour a day was inside the jail, the one CO smoked cigarettes down in the yard beneath my cell, I think, she said she smelled cigarette from my cell and torn my cell up, didn't find nothing, the CO's as you know, run the jail's and our not very friendly, my cousin Glenda's daughter Kelly was/is still a CO and she was the worst b----- ever, she was training a newby and stripped searched me twice in one day, all those CO's were b----, all females, at least we didn't have to share a cell, when they came to the house with the warrant, they let me go get ready upstairs and the CO says at my intake, you have all white's, so I got to keep my undies, forgot to mention that, make sure they have on white socks, tee-shirts and underwear, they was this one CO, Diane, and all she did was walk back and forth in the pod all shift, think she was showing off, for some reason I remember she says (Get in your Cell), I said (Get in your Cell), she flipped, almost had to go to Kangaroo Court, but I apologize, this was at Thanksgiving and I was feeling really low, day after day counting them down, finally the day arrived and it was like somebody turned on the light. That was the last time for me. There have been a lot of suicide's at that jail, my son's girlfriend got in trouble with drugs and she told the cops that she lived with my son, which was my deceased mom's house, so the cops raided the house, didn't find nothing, precursor, whatever that is, the cops hauled both of them to County in March and somehow she hung herself, I was so mad, where were the CO's then, I said RIP Jess on FB and cousin Glenda says whose Jess, I said why don't you ask your bitch daughter, then the CO's went and told my son on his birthday that she died, I really think something should be done about CO's in prison that treat prisoners badly, I just think let go let God, your Karma's coming, not just for them but for all people that are mean and abusive, Bye, Bye, Merry Christmas, Christmas Day 2021, Sorry Grammarly says there are 4 suggestions but I don't have premium, I take my sense of humor with me wherever I go, I just thought of something you didn't mention on your blog, that it's not a good idea to get friendly with anyone in the jail, especially about another crime you committed, they could turn you in to get a reduced sentence, trust no one, show no fear and be respectful and for me, act dumb, lol, PEACE

I did 5 years in Federal Prison and have been stripped searched a ton too. Most humiliating thing ever. Infographics got a lot of things wrong. Never been touched by a guard during a stripped search. My first 24 hours was pretty good. Was in an 18 man room at FCI Ft. Dix that ended up being good friends for the 3 years I served there. Helped me out a lot with hygiene, books, food, and good advice. Really needed it to. I was 22 with nothing but myself. That was back in '99-'01. Larry gives it to you raw and real. Worst thing in prison is down time... it's so boring. Foods isn't terrible its just always the same... yard gets boring, phone times are a pain. Pins not working voice rec software on the phones not letting you make calls if your sick or groggy cause your voice doesn't match the one you set up. Prison sucks but it could be way worse if you make it that way for sure. Never ever get anything on the front lol. Have you ever seen the video of Japan's "toughest prison"? People here in the US say it's brutal and dehumanizing. You get sent there, you are given a book of rules that you MUST READ AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH. You are assigned a cell and you MUST keep it neat as a pin. When you get up in the morning, EVERYTHING must be stored properly. You sit FACING THE WALL in front of you NO looking out the window no lounging on the bed. You WILL be studying the rule book. You present for roll call, then are double time marched to breakfast and you had better eat it all. THEN you get marched off to work. MANDATORY. You have quotas you have to meet. Before lunch, ALL tools are accounted for and the gods help you if you try to keep any of the tools you are working with. After lunch, back to work until it's time for supper. Same drill. Back too your cell where you sit and meditate on why you are there. NO TV. NO RADIO. And I am glossing over a lot, but if you watch the video you will see. NONE of the guards carry weapons EXCEPT for a collapsible baton which they are limited to when they can use them and NEVER above the neck. Their ratio of guards to inmates is very low (compared to US prisons). On, by the way, EVERY GUARD is AT LEAST A BLACK BELT in some form of martial arts. You DO NOT want to have a group of little angry Japanese guards descending on your sorry ass if you f*ck up. You WILL get hurt. Meals are planned to give the MINIMUM caloric intake per inmate. The warden ALSO eats the food the prisoners are given. If you watch it, I would like your opinion. If an American (service member or civilian) gets arrested, the Consulate pays a visit monthly to check on you. They don't beat the dog snot out of you, but it IS NO A PLACE you want to be. And Japanese law is NOTHING like US Law. By the time you get to trial, your guilt is almost guaranteed and yet stupid Americans think they can have the Consulate to protect them when they f*ck up. Nope. THEIR COUNTRY, THEIR LAWS. I enjoy watching your videos and hope it convinces at least ONE kid to think about their actions and the consequences.

As an ex-con, I laughed when they said the guards are "going to stick fingers in your mouth", lol - do you have any idea how utterly stupid and terrible of an idea that is?? I mean if that were true you would have a lot of guards with a lot of missing fingers because if a guard put his finger in an inmates mouth - he'd bite the F'ing thing off, lol... Look, if a guy is doing 20 years - do you think he gives a shit if he bites a guards finger off? hell no, what is that? an extra 6 months time added on to a 20 year sentence in exchange for a finger? yea, most inmates would welcome the opportunity to bite a guards finger off, lol... Infographics is merely entertainment kids, take that channel with a grain of salt, smh.. I'm from Chicago, and classification here was the same prison the show Prison Break was filmed in: Joliet State Prison er as it was called in the show "Fox River Grove".... Believe it or not when I was transported between institutions they got us McDonalds, they got us Happy Meals, lol - seriously.. I had to laugh at that video. It was obviously created by someone who has no idea how a prison system is run. I retired as a CO and I've pretty much done it all. I started out by walking the tier at a max facility, went to a booking facility, where I did intake, booking, property, security and pretty much everything that happens at a small pre-trial (booking) facility. I finished up by opening up a brand new medium security facility where I ran Intake, then moved to Segregation and finished up in Records. I've done countless strip searches, and I never stuck my fingers in anyone's mouth. I would have the prisoner lift his lips up, and then down, while I looked inside his mouth with a flashlight. There was no touching the prisoner at any time. If they had a fat gut, I would have them lift up their stomach. As far as kiestered (the term used in our system) contraband, when I helped open that new facility, the word came down that we had $10,000,000 to spend on whatever we wanted. I advocated for a body scanner, which the administration actually bought into. So everyone entering our facility got body scanned, which greatly cut down on internally carried contraband.
