Things are not going well for the Saudis right now. Their proxy forces are losing ground in Syria, Iran is gaining more influence in Iraq, the Yemen war is a stalemate, the Qatar diplomatic crisis is still unsolved, they are losing influence in Lebanon, Internal power struggles that could cause instability and the petro-yuan is challenging the status-quo on the oil market.
@guywithachromemask62607 жыл бұрын
not to mention the money they waste on terrorists
@lotus11177 жыл бұрын
If I could correct you on one note, I'd say Iran's influence in Iraq is not growing. In fact, it may be declining. A couple years ago, Iran was being looked at as some sort of guardian angel of Iraq's Shia majority thanks to the isolation policy of the previous prime minister. But that view has been getting less and less popular ever since Abadi took office. For most of Iraqis, Iran is still looked at as great ally in the war against ISIS no less, but the public opinion seem to favor neutrality nowadays considering the fact the Iraq just re-opened relations with Saudi Arabia after three decades. Iraqi nationalism is above all, it seems with the way things are going.
@lotus11177 жыл бұрын
Just my two cents from the POV of an Iraqi citizen.
@pyrioncelendil7 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is, so long as Syria and Yemen remain war-torn shitholes, from the Saudis' perspective, this is fine. From the Saudis' perspective, the complete collapse of civilization in areas the Iranians are interested in is still better than Iran succeeding in turning those into profitable fronts. As for the petro-yuan, call me when the Chinese make their currency fully convertible. Then they might be onto something. Until them, the only thing really challenging the status quo in the oil market is the fact that American shale can weather (and has weathered) a deliberate Saudi oil price crash, divorcing the United States from its interests in keeping Iran and Saudi Arabia from ripping eachothers' throats out.

Another Example of religious divide is as you can see is Khuzestan Which is 33% Arab but almost all Shia and there hasn't been much of a rebellion, just a small insurgency founded by enemies that never attracted any kind of real support and during the Iraqi invasion the Arab minority fought alongside there Persian and Bakhtiari brotherine. Also the Arab minority in the south make 10% of the population and many of the areas in the south which you marked as Arab are actually Lari Sunni.

Not a single drop of Middle-Eastern oil should have come out of the ground (as a Middle-Eastern myself, Lebanon says hello), it has caused more harm than good, you have the fundamentalist Sunnis in S.A, and the Revolutionaries of the Shia faith from Iran, they've used my country, my religion, my identity, and caused havoc everywhere. I am, and will always be, a firm defender of democracy, of freedom, and of justice (not the American kind btw). I don't want to be in someone else's sphere of influence, I don't want to take sides, this is why I admired people like Abd el Nasser, who although had many many flaws (the lack of democracy, the political purges, the whole socialism thing yeah I'm not a big fan), decided that it was time for us to unite, not through religion, but through nationalism, and become independent in our decisions (the Non-aligned movement). I just want a functioning country where we can leave in peace and stability, away from all the bloodshed. I don't want to immigrate, because I love my country, as flawed as it may be, and I want to better it, slowly but surely, first Lebanon, then the rest of the Arab world! I want people to, for once, ignore our flaws, and learn from the little good we have, we went through a civil war that everybody regrets, we made mistakes and now we learn from them. I am as Muslim as it can get, and yet I love, and prize my Christian, Druze, and Shia friends more than anything! We have a long history of tolerance and acceptance, so why can't we do the same in the modern days? I'm just... tired. I'm tired and I want all of the hate, all of the killing, all of the bloodshed to stop...

As a Muslim it's sad that these nations are fighting and even using religion just to make their pocket even deeper. Their greed and violence caused a lot of distrust and paranoia, making the Muslim from South East Asia felt threatened and isolated. They even caused violent islamism to pop out in the peace side of Islam believers. Mixing politics and religion is very bad especially religion like Islam which is a religion that at it's core doesn't have hierarchy. I can only hope that these nations can resolve this matter peacefully by themselves or with the help of some peaceful western powers.

I wonder how the almost inevitable rise of renewable energy will affect the Saudi/Iran hold on the oil monopoly? As the world slowly realises that "Hang on, it might not be worth buying oil when I can just put up a fancy mirror thing." I wonder how the two oil kings will react?
