I was there at UFC 57. Randy changed the UFC! He brought "ground and pound" to a whole new level! He was supposed to loose to Belfort, Ortiz and Liddell! But he didn't! One of the best of all time! Never forget watching him drop Silva in the first seconds of the fight!

He needs to light a candle to Matt Thornton of SBG Portland - he taught Randy that submission when he got the Halme fight at short notice. Also (after his loss to Enson in Japan) he sought out Rico Chiapparelli of the RAW team, who showed talented wrestlers how to avoid submissions. He owes a lot to those two guys, back when MMA was called NHB. RIP Halme btw.

Randy never slips my mind as possibly the goat of his division. As i kid i used to watch him give top level guys a good ole fashion beat down. Every fight they would say the ages of the fighters. Id see the look of confidence on randys face and knew what i was about to witness. In his era in the ufc he was a true staple.

How do you not bring up UFC 68 the Tim Silvia fight in 2007. Randy coming out of 1 yr retirement and this was his first at heavyweight since 2002. Randy was suppose to be too old and small for the 6’8” Silvia. One of my all time favorite fights and to this day may have been the loudest crowd pop in the UFC. Must watch fight.

Randy, Tito, Silva, Josh Barnett and many of the early pioneers of the UFC had huge rifts with Dana White. Dana was using fighters to build the company and the sport. Future generations are indebted to both the early pioneers of the sport and to the bald guy who made it mainstream.
