What the Heck is a PX Luger?

A few- very few- Lugers were assembled post-war and sold in American PXs. They are rare and highly desirable to collectors. Except this one; which has been refinished back when it was just a gun. OTOH because of that I get to shoot it! I'm good with that.

I completely understand your fascination with the luger, my love affair with the luger started when I was young my fathers friend bought one through the mail. I sat on his work bench and as he took it apart to a bare frame and removed all traces of cosmoline from its insides and reassembled it. I was fascinated at 5 years old I did not move until the wonderful gun was back together. This made such an impression on me that in later years I changed vocations and took 18 months and enrolled in Gunsmithing School as one of my projects in that school I rebuilt a 1900 Commercial luger that had been refinished and was missing several parts. Suffice to say that luger and its rebuild provided many A's as its projects continued to be completed as a shootable firearm.

I'll likely never get to play with a luger of any kind. Watching you have a little fun with one was kind of a hoot though. Thanks for taking us along.

My initial answer was, "Surplus Lugers sold to US soldiers through the PX."

What's to worry about with the Luger and the Nazi's? Millions drive VW's with never a thought about Nazi's.

I have an unrelated question , I was wondering if you have done any other testing of smokeless powders for a .38 s&w top break other than unique powder, or do you not recommend?

Almost all done with Unique, largely because I had a lot of it. Red Dot closely mimics the pressure curve and total pressure of BP (though it is used in much smaller quantities!) so I think it ought to be a good candidate.

I would take a 08 9mm Luger over a 1911 any day…. but I love the 1911 too.

Only thing I will say about the P08 vs 1911 is that you can hand a 1911 to anyone who has basic knowledge of how a semi auto pistol works and they can operate it just fine whether it’s a 1915 commercial Government model or a Dan Wesson Bruin. As good as the Luger is, the 1911 set the standard and the mold for how to make and set up a modern semi auto pistol.

@@Ben_not_10 all that is very true… that said I still prefer the Luger.

@@guaporeturns9472 frankly if I had the money, I’d want one of those Lugerman 1907 Lugers in 10mm. Because why not have the Luger in best millimeter

I have always wanted a functional replica of one, but not the .45 model that is silly. A luger should be 7.63 or 9 mm. I see sarco inc does offer a 9mm luger that is currently out of stock: Luger 9mm Pistol - New Production Item Number GUN889 No reviews yet Write A Review $1,100.00
