I'm a full-time college student. I'm enjoying the online classes. I am noticing, however, that some of my professors, especially the ones who aren't as technically savvy as the rest of us, are starting to seem depressed. As I watch one of them speak into the blank void of their computer screen, there's an undeniable sadness in their face. I worry for the mental health of my classmates, professors, and other school employees.

I actually haven't watched the Daily Show before this pandemic, but KZbin's algorithms realized I needed it in my life, Lol :) I've watched as Trevor has gone from dressy, to dressy-casual, to the sweatshirt he's killing it in!

The one thing I like about the daily show nowadays is that they changed the way they do their videos to fit KZbin better. When the show was done in a studio it was a classic live show setting, people reacted to the jokes and it felt natural in the traditional way. In these videos, it's very apparent that since the setting has changed, also the way the jokes are told had to change. You have to use clever editing or fun effects to land the jokes (just a small zoom here and there, stuff like that), it's no use to leave an empty silence where there would normally be laughter from the live audience. I watched some other night show host doing the same thing as Trevor does here, but since the way he told his jokes hadn't changed, and there was little to no editing, the jokes didn' t land. It was all rather awkward. I feel like someone has definitely looked at how content creators in youtube get their jokes to work here. I just want to say that I kinda appreciate it since anything that can bring light to the current awful situation is truly appreciated.

The undergrads in my school's consortium were told to leave during spring break and not come back. What happened was many students became homeless, either because they were international students, or because they couldn't go home for whatever reason. The universities then had to invite some students back, but the number of students who are now homeless as a result of what is effectively a mass eviction with no advanced notice, is unclear.

At the University of Buffalo, we have to pick up our stuff or they throw it out. Throwing it out will even cost money just for them to touch it and for them to ship it back is hundreds of dollars or more. I am an alumni of University of Phoenix!! The school doctoral program is expensive. They have a really great online program. I think that Most teachers and professors lack the skills to interact at that level. It requires training to fully utilize online learning and instruction to its fullest capacity. It also requires discipline to be a good student online as well as a good instructor. I think that the shift was difficult as they had to transfer classroom course work that is done face to face. It is not made for everyone!!

I'm an American (US), and I couldn't agree more. Thankfully, we now have access to so many foreign films and foreign tv series which present a different picture. (AND, are great! Have you seen "Money Heist"?). And, I've felt this way for years. Not to bore anyone, but years ago,, I had a cat who was dying of FIP, a fatal disease in cats. I did a ton of research online to see if there were trials going on with drugs that might work against this disease, and I found that Japan and Scotland were doing some incredible work in trying to find a cure. (And, frankly, I was stunned that anyone cared that much about cats, but that's a different story). Actually was able to call and talk to a scientist heading up the research in Scotland. (She told me they had just ended the trial because the drug wasn't working). Sad thing is that many brilliant people from around the world used to come to the US for advanced training at our universities, and then stay. Now? I'm sure they'll still come, but then they'll leave because Americans don't like "foreigners". These brilliant people do not want to raise their families in the environment that exists in the US today. They don't want to worry about how safe their kids will be when they leave the house. And, frankly, I"m looking ahead and realizing that yes, we might get a Dem in the White House after the Nov election, and we might even take over the US Senate. But, then, four or eight years after that, the GOP will get back in office, and it'll be the same thing all over again. We'll have another 4-8 years of another W. Bush or Trump......Any time we Dems make a LITTLE progress towards helping the average person in this country, the GOP steps back in and the country takes 2 steps backwards. It's so depressing.

I know more than one person taking online college classes with Zoom. They all say it's different, but they are getting the same amount of knowledge they were getting before. They all pretty much took their exams online and submitted their course work online even before the virus stay at home orders and the only difference is the lectures are now online. They can have conferences with their professors over Zoom as well, and they can check out any materials they need to read online, too, so I'm getting the feeling that those who are having hissy fits about wanting their tuition back are lazy and just don't want to put forth the effort to do the work. I can see wanting to get at least a partial refund of their housing and food costs if they lived on campus, but that's all they're reasonably entitled to get back since they're no longer living in the dorms or eating in the dining halls. Not being able to hang with their friends and go bar hopping isn't included in their tuition. Nobody is able to hang with their friends or go bar hopping. Suck it up, Buttercup!

Its not the same. Esp. for STEM majors since we have lab hours we can’t do anymore and can’t get hands on experience. We also usually have lab fees so yeah not cool. Others who are planning more hands on careers are suffering as well because they aren’t able to participate in Uni-arranged internships and on site hours. I’m not in a bad boat since I’m still getting the credit which is all I need in my planned career but I’m not going to be working in labs so I can understand why my peers who do need that experience in STEM are upset.

No. Students will still get the same degree. A DEGREE from Harvard, Yale, Williams, Smith, etc. is not the same as a degree from Phoenix, or, MUCH worse, tRump university. This virus and the social distancing that it requires won’t be forever. If students want the credibility that goes along with a degree from a prestigious college or university, they still need to pay for it. So what? Classes are online for the time being.
