What The Hell Is Going On With Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection?

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection launched recently, and what should have been some moment for the community quickly went wrong. Players who hopped onto for multiplayer realized that only three servers were available to accommodate nearly 10,000 players on Steam.
Several other issues were quickly discovered, from the lack of aim assist in multiplayer to split-screen only supporting two players instead of four. While developer Aspyr reportedly added more servers, players complained of high ping, lag, stuttering and more. That's not including crashes, graphical glitches and other issues players have discovered in short order.
Suffice it to say that the Steam rating took a beating, plummeting to "Mostly Negative" reviews. What caused all this? Because majority of people who like this game don't need multiplayer to re jump into this game. I got it on ps5 and I don't care for the multiplayer as I got it to just fire it up maybe do splitscreen and play this classic on a console again. But I agree that aspyr did a very shit job reguardless. But if the online never fixed for this I won't shed tears. I thinks it's more weird that cutsceens are missing from the 501st mission which is kinda cringe

Worst part is that theses review channels didnt even play enough to notice the huge amount of bugs and the the fact that 50% of the Story Cinematics are missing from the game. This channel like many others are now trying to justify their actions, the game has a lot of problems outside multiplayer.

You got some of your information wrong. 1: Ventress and Kit Fisto were taken from the Xbox version but were also had fine tuning and custom sabre effects by the modder 2: Battlefront III was never developed by Pandemic, it was developed by Free Radical and then turned into a PSP game by Rebellion, the game was called Star Wars: Battlefront Elite Squadron

I've seen several doing a similar thing. They keep excusing their positive review with "I couldn't access multiplayer" or "it was an early review copy" and so on. Well they shouldn't be doing a review then, not for a game they can't fully test and isn't the one everyone else will be playing. Those positive early reviewers are just as guilty as the devs.

It makes me wonder how they screwed it up that bad. The source code for these games has been publicly available for well over 10 years now thanks to modders. All they had to do was take that and recompile it for modern consoles. Even graphical upgrades shouldn't have been that hard. Modders already did it to the old games without issue.

My online experience in 2 isnt that great, but the first one is fantastic. Never knew this game was so great online, the slow paced action goes on endless straling meter for meter , the crouch . The first is really great online. It plays pretty lag free 2. But its real great at this moment, can use a little patching here and there.but the experience is really booming how dope and good the first one plays online.

Got the game on switch specifically for the single player. Loved instant action. Multiplayer was the cherry on top for me. Or would have been, if the servers werent so laggy. Literally have to aim IN FRONT like 5 feet of the enemy at all times

The stats he quoted (20% positive) shows that most likely 20% didn’t play it online because there’s no way it would have any positive reviews if the 20% had played online. This is why polls/ ratings aren’t accurate. They need to split ratings into online and offline because you’re online experience can be quite different from offline. This game is a perfect example of that.

20% positive comes from the crown jewel of the game which makes it 10 out of 10 for solo playing. The 80% negative comes from the online which was bound to have issues. For me, i'm glad i got to relive those teen years playing this game again. I never did play the first one, but either way, it's a solid 10/10 for me 🤩

I'm having an issue with splitscreen on the Switch version: it just says "Please Insert Controller" for player 2, even when I have two controllers paired to the console. Does anyone know why this is? Do both players need to have a Nintendo Online account even for offlline splitscreen play? Not defending this release. So much non excusable issues for games 20 years old is absolutely ridiculous. Now I will say overall my experience has been positive. I mean back in the day I didn't have online so I always played single player so in all honesty I am having a blast. I bought this mainly for that. Playing online is great but single player is just fine for me. I feel like I'm back in 2004/2005.

Its really really bad. Nearly unplayable and its the first game Star Wars game that I wanted a refund for. Huge problems but for me not having team balancing just resulted in 31 players playing empire or clones and 12 players playing rebels or droids. Matches are over before they begin. Full 32 player Empire squad? Tough, go join the 8 rebels fighting for the last CP. Then you get into the hit registration/ping issues... The fact that they had 3 servers to start meant that they didn't take this seriously at all.

There are a lot of valid points here, and for PC players in particular I do hope they get addressed. As for solo play on Xbox, the game has never been so clean, so it’s a bit of a mixed bag at the moment. And in multiplayer I have experienced no lag or crashes, or issues of any kind other than Mace Windu seemingly being able to ghost his lightsaber through other characters for instant kills.

I certainly won’t invalidate the bad experiences people have been having, but I will add that plenty of us who got the game haven’t been seeing many problems. A little rough around the edges and some weird omissions (like the inverted control toggle). But I’ve been loving both games in single and multiplayer with hardly any issue, and some of those I remember being from the original release. A relatively lazy port, but not as unplayable as they’re being portrayed (I have Switch version btw, so that could make a difference). Tbh, I saw people saying they were returning the game within 20-90 minutes of the midnight release on their platforms, and it only took until the morning of the release day for more servers to be up. So honestly while I recognize there have been legitimate negatives to the game and its release, if you’re thinking of getting the game you should know that it’s not all gloom and doom.
