It came out on Gamepass which has 25million customers, and its possible that half or more of the players got it there, for free essentially. Gamepass has not been a success also, a former Microsoft higherup said it might have needed "100million or something" customers to be considered successful and it has eaten into potential sales for xbox games. HFR may have been more expensive than we have been led to believe as well which may have led to this decision but we cant know for sure unless they come out and tell us. It's such a shame too, because I really like Phil and I like what he says about games, sometimes.. But he seems like the wrong man for our time. Maybe he was shy after MS being burned by Kinect or whatever(not his doing), but yeah, dude does not seem like he was planning for a future that was gonna happen. Backwards compat was all him, and I have all sorts of respect for him for doing that, that was a genuinely good move. But yeah.. does not seem like the right guy for this era. I always see him giving these super-amazing scripted talks at conferences, but his actions doesn't mirror what he say. There is no evidence that PlayStation single player games sell well on PC because PC players don’t play games like that. Xbox lost their console identity when they went day and date on PC and started treating their fans like second class citizens. I was one of them. For those that are optimistic that Xbox will be bringing new games to the table by merging the teams, wake up already. They got nothing and the next presentation they’ll have is just to promise more games in the distant future. But will it be 2 or 3 years from now? There’s nothing coming for 2024. Oh yeah, there’s Hellblade 2 and they’re not even trying to promote the game anymore. There’s nothing wrong with waiting years if that promises amazing games, but they’re looking to make money here. And the next few years don’t look good for Xbox…

i never had the game pass, if we came to a point where they control all the games and internet is always required , we as consumers are f#####. they could do whatever they want , we had to swallow it. all streaming stuff isnt for me.

Forward thinking: Imagine Xbox is narrowing their focus on next generation hardware with a top tier launch lineup... Imagine a PS6 equivalent Xbox releasing in 2026 with a handheld counterpart... Imagine Elder Scrolls 6, Gears 6, Blade, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 are day one launch titles. I think they're looking to the next generation rather than trying to dig their way back in this generation. Imagine all 5 of those launch titles as being bangers. What if that's the goal? Release Gen 10 over a year before PS6 and follow the Sony blueprint of a winning launch lineup of games. I believe their big titles stay exclusive to Xbox and PC. Older smaller titles go multiplatform. Gamepass is still in play. And we get a handheld Xbox. I think they're putting resources into that main goal of winning in 2026.
