7:06 the titles you discuss as potentially benefitting from a wider player base are known quantities. Gears, for example, was first released over 15 years ago. It had all of that time across so many different high and low cost options of consoles, as well as through a myriad array of other low cost entry points like Samsung TVs, game pass mobile, etc. And yet it hasn't happened. MS pitched the consoles and the platform they offered as the best way to play to its player base. The bethesda/Activision acquisitions were played as a signal that the investment xbox players made were being matched by MS. (Wasn't Starfield reportedly a PS exclusive that MS wanted to headoff?) I think xbox players upset about this because they saw MS expanding what it meant to be in their ecosystem in a way that didn't diminish xbox loyalists investment. By putting their biggest and newest in-house games on all platforms, what is the point of having an Xbox? MS is making it seem like those loyalists made a mistake, even after they spent nearly 100 billion dollars to make themselves stand apart.

Xbox should have focused on building a good exclusive catalogue like Sony they failed themselves, we dont care though just give me Gears Of War on PS.

Microsoft owns the devs now. Before when they had exclusives, devs took a loss on market share for Microsoft to gain by pushing console sales. Now MS own the studios outputting the platform exclusives, it means MS directly is also losing out on the market share by locking them them out of selling on PS. It's just business, and indicates MS are pretty confident about their overall market position that they don't feel dependent on platform exclusives to force people onto their console.

@RuTube9818 ай бұрын
I hate the rhetoric that people hate that other people are playing the same game. They're not upset that people are playing the same game. They're upset that they could have gotten the OTHER console and played EVERYTHING instead of just a few games that would have come to that platform anyway. Because the other thing that rarely anyone is talking about is this: Wouldn't playstation or Nintendo benefit from putting their games out anywhere? But they don't because they know in the long run that's how you sell consoles and build an identity and take mindshare of the market. I'm sure they made more money on MLB the show now that it's on Xbox. (Well they didn't since it's on Gamepass and they didn't see a dime of that money). But they'd rather just keep it on Playstation because it's just one more quality game that adds up reasons to buy and invest in the Playstation ecosystem.

My honest opinion is that I am in support of any developer publishing their games on multiple platforms. I know that isn't the standard approach for Nintendo or Sony, but I don't see it as a failure on Microsoft's part to do this. The drawback is that whoever is making the game will face added challenges with making their game work on multiple systems. But, where it's accomplished it is something to be applauded! (long as the ports aren't terrible). I'd feel the same if Sony made more of their exclusives available to X-Box. It's silly to want to 'hoard' jealously whatever exclusives are on your chosen console. We're all consumers and lovers of video games. Puts us all in the same boat. 'Console Wars' are antiquated thinking.
@SavageSaint98 ай бұрын
In a perfect world this would be great. But this world doesn’t exist. Xbox will now have LESS triple A experiences than every other platform. Rendering them irrelevant to any true gaming enthusiasts. Why would anyone want another Xbox when all their games will be on PlayStation and PlayStation will also have Spider-Man, Wolverine etc exclusive to their platform? If Gamepass were simply enough to sell consoles it would already be flying of shelves. They’ll disincentivize their hardware quickly here.
@symol308728 ай бұрын
I think you guys have missed the point around exclusives. The issue is why would someone invest in an Xbox when you can play those games on rival platforms with their own exclusives and get to play everything? If more people abandon the Xbox platform due to this reason, why would Microsoft continue to invest in it? If Microsoft one day abandons the console from lack of support, what happens to all our digital libraries? Why are these questions never thrown at Sony or Nintendo for their exclusives putting them on PC/Xbox?

The last Spiderman and God of War didn't hit the numbers Sony was hoping for. So I wouldn't be surprised if within a decade we will start seeing Sony 1st party titles selling on other platforms like Xbox (on a 6 months to 1-year delay of course). These games are getting more and more expensive to make so return on investment will need to be much higher so selling on all platforms will be a must to keep investors happy. Sony has investors they have to keep happy as well.

I think if it turns out that the games are also coming to PlayStation, there is still worth in having an Xbox. Now I own steam deck, ps5 and switch. Then what happens to all my purchases when MS decide or no longer make Xboxes since they no longer sell at all. I’m looking to switch to PS for this reason alone. My only issue is I can get games far cheaper on Xbox and I have the same issue as Tam whereby the Dualsense kills my hands.

I think it really makes sense for Microsoft / Xbox to pivot into the handheld market and more directly compete with the Switch 2 and Steam Deck. They'd (hopefully) be more tightly integrated with a Windows 11 OS. Game Pass would be a very easy bundle/upsell. People would be less mad about losing physical media as it'd be difficult to get a disc drive on a handheld. Could even be able to sell an EGPU dock for it to keep pace with more demanding titles. Series S already has devs target a lower spec. So it'd be a similar split of mobile/docked versions. The experience that their hardware division has could definitely carry over, Surface and Xbox controllers have great build quality. Imagine a Controller Lab style customization for a Steam Deck like device. Customize colors, sticks, face buttons etc when you order. Might be wishful thinking on my part but if it launched at like 499 for the handheld and maybe another 299 for the EGPU dock that can ideally be upgraded later, I think I'd pull the trigger on it. As of right now there's zero reason to buy a Series X/S if you have a decent PC or a PS5, and the writing on the wall says there's going to be even LESS reason to do so.
