One of the things that really struck me about this series is how little patching and clothes-maintenance we see in it. I figure that stuff was ALSO missing in the game, but I'd imagine basic needle-skills would be de riguer after the apocalypse, and stuff like mink-oil for maintaining and waterproofing leather clothing in high-demand.

I think there's one element to the costumes you glided over: much of the show is shot outside. In Alberta. In winter, for a lot of it. As an Albertan, it's worth remembering that by mid-january a daytime high temperature of -10 Celcius is *warm*. So the "Wyoming" costumes, for example, needed to not just tell the story but also keep the actors warm for several hours of -10 to -15 degree weather. I'm sure they were grabbing blankets and hot water bottles between takes, but some of the shots are long enough to be lethal if you're not dressed for the weather.

I appreciate that you explain that realism at some point has to accommodate a film's (or TV series) aesthetic. Like you said it is a fictional world, not a real world they are recreating.

I’m sure you have seen Shaun of the Dead but have you seen Juan of the Dead? It’s a very Cuban take on the zombie apocalypse. I can’t say about the costuming but it’s definitely something to watch, especially with someone who is familiar with Cuban culture and history.

I would also expect to see more patching and mending on clothes to keep them wearable as they wear out!

Never mind the clothing, the light bulbs and electrical infrastructure appears to have lasted far beyond reality. :-)

Much electricity production begins with turbines and generators put into action by burning fuels that are either pumped or mined. So, there is also a supply chain dimension.

Check out the fashion of Revolution (2012 - 2014). The fashion is way too pristine.

Clothes are best to give off what happening in game and movies depending on the genre comedy, action, romance, clothes sell what happing in the scene looking at dead island two the infected are heavily inspire by clothing people would wear in LA and depend wear you are in the game the infect will look different and then theirs 'all of us are dead' and 'highschool of the dead' they character are wear clothing suited for the setting which is schools uniforms then you look at 'San Andreas' characters all messy covered in cuts and bruises ash and dust after and earthquake, I thought these were cool points to bring into the table since wear talking about clothing in the last of us
