Other bird Pokémon that baffle me are the Swellow and Talonflame lines. Barn swallows are a very common species in England, and falconing is a popular sport there. So maybe these lighter birds could act as falconing birds whereas Corviknight and Braviary take on the bigger jobs.

It would have made more sense to me that Leon's ace was Salemence and not Charizard, so that the Champion still has a European Dragon as an ace without having to deal with the fan backlash of given Charizard another new form.

Carlo Reyes or, OR, he could have use dragapult as his ace, like his team suggests. Charizard is just shoe-horned into his team when he could have a dope new Pokemon to challenge us. Instead, all I had to do was keep stealth rock on my coalossal and all that build up was completely undermined.

I think him having Charizard as his partner is meant to represent the fact that he's supposed to be a protagonist. His rival was Raihan, Sonia was his friendly 'rival', the professor lady was his professor, so it makes sense everyone of these are grown adults. They have had their adventure, Leon was just as of an up and coming trainer as we are currently in the game. Starter was Charmander.

It's based on a European Dragon, even having a slight resemblance to the red dragon that's on the Welsh flag. Welsh is part of the U.K., which Galar is based on, and Leon's the champion of this region. Although, with the reveal of Venusaur's and Blastoise's Gigantamax forms, it wouldn't be surprising if it turns out that they were originally Milo and Nessa's starter Pokemon.

Houndoom could’ve been a reference to The Hound of Baskerville. Talonflame and Staraptor would tie in well with English falconry. If the game is titled Pokémon Shield, it should include Shieldon.

Sawsbuck was one of my main team members back in Black 1, so it always bothers me how hard Game Freak tries to ignore its existence. I think it was available post-game in ORAS (Spring Form only), but ever since it's been absent. Even if we never see changing seasons again, it would be easy to implement all four forms by making them appear in different climates throughout the region.

There is a side-issue related to this problem. Ecological niches being double filled. Why are Machamp and Conkeldurr both in? Conkeldurr is Machamp''s ecological replacement when the latter isn't around. They are both 3-stage pure fighting types that need to trade to evolve. Then there is Gigalith and Coalossal. 3-stage rock types found in caves. Why are they both here? Sawk & Throh and the Hitmon line. Same thing. And the aforementioned Manectric and Bolthund. It kinda feels like they picked pokemon with a dartboard (after putting in Charizard, Pikachu and enough furrybait). It's baffling and kinda shows that that excuse was as full of holes as the balance one (Toxapex...LOL!).

The national dex was one thing, you need the dlc for a much more complete game and there's the Pokemon home fiasco. It's how the UK got infested with grey squirrels from North America and so many places ended up with British rabbits and there are lots of invasive species of plants.

Lilligant's cut always confused me From what I can tell, every mon that made it in who has a version exclusive counterpart in it's original game, got in with said counterpart. Ludicolo/Shiftry, Braviary/Mandibuzz, Reuniclus/Gothitelle, Solrock/Lunatone, Gourgeist/Trevenant, Sableye/Mawile, Turtonator/Drampa, Aromatisse/Slurpuff, Oranguru/Passimian, Sawk/Throh. But then you have Whimsicott, who's missing it's counterpart. You can argue "too many version exclusives" and that's true, but why keep Whimsicott on it's own when it fills the same roll of 2-stage Cotton Pokemon with Eldegoss. And in terms of what kind of plant Lilligant is, it makes far more sense to be there than Tsareena.

Personally I hope for a regional Mareep/Flaafy variant (and maybe a unique third evolution?) based off of North Ronaldsay/Orkney sheep, since those are really a rarity (high saline tolerance semi-wild sheep that subsist on seaweed, count me in). Could involve some unusual combination type and maybe let it learn Smellingsalt and Brine. ... Sorry, a side project of mine was too focused on learning more about salt tolerant organisms. Is it really rare for Tsareena, the pokemon called "The queen of fruits" and that has "Queenly Majesty" as her hidden ability to be in a region highly related to kings, royalty and many other things like that? Many pokemon games have a common trait or a new mechanic with their pokemon related to those specific games that they tend to represent with the pikachu clones: Gen 2 pichu (pokemon breeding), gen 3 plusle and minun (double battles and abilities), gen 4 pachirisu (gender differences and physical/special split with pachirisu being the first pikachu clone with higher physical attack and being one of the mascots for the gen 4 online battles), gen 5 emolga (hidden abilities and shaking grass encounters with emolga being part of the pokemon you can find with this method), gen 6 dedenne (fairy type), gen 7 togedemaru (z-crystals and totem pokemon). And finally for gen 8 is morpeko with form change, which is the most common trait with all the gen 8 pokemon, specially with the dynamax and gigantamax mechanics, not to mention that many pokemon in the galar region have more than one form like toxtricity, applin, sinistea, alcreamie, eiscue, indeede and technically the fossil pokemon and cramorant too. Which explains why so many pokemon with more than one form or evolution ended up being part of the gen 8 dex like oddish line, froslass, glalie, spurr line, hippowdon, ralts line and wishi washi. Mareep line (more specifically ampharos) was probably left out of the dex because Toxtricity was already meant to be kinda related to the lighthouse from Hulbury and it would be rare if they made that connection while having ampharos there which was also known for being a pokemon that works on a lighthouse in the anime. And about shiftry, I´m pretty sure that his pokedex entries for Sword and Shield said that he is some kind of forest guardian, and guards are technically something that may be related to the galar region. Specially with pokemon like Sirfetch´d.

Why I think they were included: - The Tsareena line has the "Queen" motive, which is quite British if you can imagine Queen Elizabeth stomping and stepping all over you - Wishiwashi can be found all over the world, as sardines can as well (you said it yourself) - Insert Pocahontas' story for the reason as to why the native american Natu and Xatu are there. Also Natu is my favorite bird so I DON'T CARE MY BIRB BOYS BELONG!!! - Shiftry like windy woods. Guess how windy Britain can be (okay, quite a stretch). Also oak trees are quite common in Europe, so at least Seedot does belong.

I honestly think Galarian Meowth and Purrserker would have a better design if the beard wasn't hanging off their face, and was just their poofy torso fur. Xatu and other out of place Pokemon _are_ in a version of the Safari Zone, THE WILD AREA. Notice how very few Galar Pokemon are found in the Wild Area, most of them are older Pokemon outside of the raid dens and how strange it is that this "wild area" is surrounded on all four sides by civilization. It isn't a nature reserve its like a wildlife park, maybe a Pokemon friendly version of a hunting reserve that is stocked with exotic species for the enjoyment of trainers.

Tsareena seems obvious to me - the queen connection. Same goes for Ferrothorn (durian = king of fruits), Seaking, Kingler, Aegislash, Vespiquen and Jellicent. The 'double ups' annoy me... both Diglett and Drilbur lines? both Machop and Timburr lines? Quagsire AND Seismitoad AND Whiscash? Having no Snubull line, Lillipup line, Swanna line and Pyroar line (or even Luxio) was a crime. They could always be added in the DLC though.

Here's a few just off the top of my head that they probably should have included: Magnemite/ton/zone- The guy who created the first magnet was British (William Gilbert). He's also the guy who discovered the Earth has a magnetic field. Murkrow/ Honchkrow- Lots of British/ Irish folklore surrounding the corvide family of birds. Probably not included because Corviknight represents this already, but still kinda surprising. Also, the most famous gangsters in British history, the Kray twins, were stationed (and then held for desertion) at the Tower of London for their National Service. You know, the Tower of London; where the ravens are kept. Yeah, it's a stretch, but a gangster crow is too close not to mention it. Kangaskhan or Breloom- Ok, hear me out. There are actually wild Wallabies living in the UK. They were originally brought over for zoos, escaped and have now established themselves in Staffordshire, Sussex and Lincolnshire. Sure there isn't a "Wallaby" Pokemon but either of the two that are kinda based on a Kangaroo (at a stretch) would be a nice nod to this. Plus, you know, it'd be nice to be able to catch Breloom in the wild outside of Hoenn. Deerling/ Sawsbuck or Stantler- There a six different species of deer in the UK and they are the biggest non-domesticated animal native to the islands, but no deer Pokemon to represent this. Oh deer. (I mean, hey, it's a weak reason, but it's better than any reason for including Hawlucha or Claydol)
