my grandfather grew up in a small village in Peru and once told me a story about them having to evacuate their village because a massive army of ants was coming through. he had a collection of dead butterflies posted on his wall and when he returned they had all ben eaten.

I can see why these made your top 20 list ... Now to play the game of "Let's collect them all for the new Ant Room!" ... when it is finished being constructed and ready for occupants. Personally, I quite enjoy watching a single queen give rise to a whole colony more than seeing an already established colony, but that's just me. Still thoroughly enjoying all your channel has to offer ❤

If I'd found this channel before I found a queen ant a few years ago, I might have a huge colony by now. I've always been a fan of insect watching, and I immediately knew that the beautiful creature I laid my eyes upon was no common wasp or hornet. She had wings and a rather plump belly. Found out later it was specifically a Pavement Ant, one of the native species to Virginia. You all may be happy to know, though, I did watch her for a while and she ended up crawling in a hole on a wall near one of my outside ponds, and not too long after I saw streams of little ants hurrying to and fro that very hole. I consider myself lucky to catch one of those rare glimpses of a queen outside of her nest.

@@AntsCanada Sorry if i'm a bother, but I have another question, after studying, my closet has no air conditioning but the room outside it does. does this work or do I have to look somewhere else to locate the test tube setup? also, if a rain storm takes place say around, 3-5 am, and stops before it reaches 7-8 am, would it still have higher chances for a nuptial flight later that day? asking because the weather forecast shows something simillar to that happening, and I wanna see if I have to set any alarms.

One of the main reasons why I like queen ants is because of the different head shapes and my favorite head shapes comes from the camponotus genius

I managed to capture a green weaver ant queen and she’s laying some eggs but I’ve a few questions 1. Is she full claustral? 2. Can I raise her in an enclosure w/o any plants?? 3. How do I prevent fungi outbreaks as it is very common for them to die of fungi

The pronunciation at the end of Yare Yare Daze is actually "Ya-ray ya-ray dah-zay" (it's Japanese, meaning something like "Good grief", likely a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure reference). :)

AntsCanada, you have just cleared something up for me. I was scrolling through some semi old videos and I found this one. There are these tiny black worker ants that crawl around my yard and near the road that are so small, they're smaller than fire ants. I always called them "carpenter ant workers" because of their size, but through watching your videos I saw how big carpenter ants are and to this day, I was like "Wait, then what are those?" I then moved on to calling them "sugar ants" because that's what my family grew up calling them, and I just found out that Sugar Ants are native to Australia, so I was even more confused, until you brought up the Pavement Ant, which you said was native to the USA. I had no idea what you were talking about until you zoomed in on that queen ant on the sidewalk with your camera and I saw its size and I was like "OHHH! THAT'S what they are!" I'm telling you what, this has been driving me crazy! Thanks for the video!
