Yeah. I was thinking where are your 'paper' items and your 'canned meats'. And 'quick' items that don't require COOKING (don't seem to have any home canned items left)? Your meds and first aid items. What do you do to stay 'WARM'? And that little bit of 'water' is not enough for a family or even a single person. I'm sure they have 'bottled water' and toilet paper, they just didn't want to show that as some of us get all 'judgy' about it, lol! But I agree with them, they need to ensure their pantry is FULLY STOCKED. Being prepared as a minimum for the next 'Hurricane' season. We in Texas need to add things that will help in the middle of Winter as our Hurricane Preparedness doesn't go far enough to guard against loss of power and water in the dead of Winter. We need to WINTERIZE our Electric Grid as a State and WINTERIZE our personal Prepardness preparations as INDIVIDUALS (singles & families).

The big containers...they may be bug free, but if there are eggs in your grain or pasta..you’ll put it into your bulk container. I freeze all my beans and grain for 3 days..then leave them out 24 hours so it can go through a hatching cycle...then refreeze for 3 more days. I haven’t had any problems doing it this way.

My CDN Ojibwe friends survived -50 below without power (thanks to cruelty of Mb Hydro who stole their land and then cut their power) by making blanket tents inside their shanty houses. Get long rope, anything even electric cords, wire/nails/hammer/poles/even mop/broom poles/ hammer nails on ceiling, side walls, erect over a wide bed and layer blankets over frame, make flap for door. It will get too hot fast, so adjust flap.

Being from an earthquake area, it always makes me nervous when people store their oil lamps up high. Also when the canning jars don’t have some sort of lip, board or rope strung across the shelving units. Haha. I’ve never experienced a tornado though. My craft room has become dual purpose. I use the vittle vaults too, for flour, rice, beans, and sugar. Great for bulk storage of staples. I bake most of any of our bread ish things to save money, so it’s very handy. I want to get a couple more vaults for grain storage( grains last several years, flour is only good for about a year). Hi there! New subscriber here 🙋🏼♀️. *****I just wanted to tell you to please be careful with the weight you add to those particular style of shelves (the ones to your left when you walked into your food room). I had one of those and I was storing canned goods on them and the metal bands/bars (that hold the flat shelf pieces) bowed, which meant the shelf piece fell through and all of my canned goods with it!! It was a mess. I would’ve been so upset if that had been my glass jars of food I had canned myself! We all know how much work that is. Anyway, just thought I would warn you so hopefully the same thing won’t happen to you! Blessings
@cynthiaweathers69793 жыл бұрын
One thing....make sure you are able to keep canned goods room temp. If they freeze, they bust open. Under ground or above ground root cellar covered in soil will keep food from freezing.

We can enough out of our garden to last 3 years. We also have a huge root cellar for storing potatoes and fall veggies, including old variety hard pears and apples. We can and dry meats and veggies alike, which allows us to put away more foods than we wood just canning. Our pantry is quite large and we store our flour, sugar, cornmeal, and other dry goods on various sealed containers.

I converted 2 large, 4 shelf wooden shelves from IKEA into my "pantry". I added chicken wire around the sides and put a cheap wood backing on it. I even put some old fashion looking peel and stick paper in there to make it farmy! :) I added some curtains on the front and voila! Automatic pantry.

Right now I'm putting a small 5 pound bag spread out in a cardboard box lightly covered on floor of my pantry as a test., Also I had 2 baking potatoes that were getting older so I cut them up and dehydrated them today.. a little apprehensive if I did it right.. and how to best use them for a dinner.. any advice would be welcome. Love this room.. even if I don't survive a SHTF situation it's comforting to see strong families being prepared.

The price of corn, soy and fuel going up will make the prices of everything else go up also. These companies have to make up their increased costs somehow. Corn and soy are in more products than most people realize and they’re both used to feed livestock. Just a thought.

I got some more shelves this is my goal hopefully in the next few months we can get it done after my daughter recovers from surgery. our storage is in our basement, my dream is to have it on main floor would be so much easier to get to and actually see and remember what we have on hand. right now its in 2 areas so hoping in time it gets to one area. we are also praying for a new address as well to be able to do more, trusting the Lord for that answer and timing. my daughter always asks me how do people keep their teeth so white when they drink coffee?? she drinks it as well and its coloring her teeth, any ideas how you keep your teeth so white?? I am older so mine are wrecked but would love help for her she is 23 and still young.

Wanted to comment because there is something important you are missing. You can’t just store your rice and pasta in those big containers long term. They need to be dry canned to kill any larvae that may be in them, otherwise, sealed or not, you could end up with a big bin of bugs. Look up videos on how and why to dry can rice, beans, pasta, etc.

If you have room in your garage, take everything on your shelves, that is non-freezable, and place out there. Includes sugar, flour, beans, etc. Use your smarts. You are wasting a lot of good space that can be used for easily damaged food with liquids. Also, shelves with ANY objects on then, need to have a board about 3 inches above the shelf running the full length of the shelf , to keep your things from falling on the floor accidentally or in an earthquake. If you want to be a pepper then exhibit good prepping habits!!!

Yes, my thoughts too. I also have a room pantry, but i try not to keep non food there, we keep our honey there and it takes slot of space. I have 2 other pantries, traditional kitchen type. One day i opened up the larger one that had appliences and other non food items. I heard in the spirit. "Only food". Meaning get rid of the superfluous and anything like lamps that can be kept(without batteries snd fuel) in non climate controlled storage, keep it there. Tape is a great idea. I had a dream one that one day Texas will have a earthquake.
