Just imagine this: your party befriends an NPC. They're fun and caring, always helping you and others. You get a job: a small village near a forest was destroyed and nobody knows what happened. The group travels to the place, fighting all sorts of monsters on the way, but when you finally see the village, all plants and animals poisoned, corpses on the ground, your friend suddenly changes, anger clearly showing through their expression. You delve into the forest, your friend finding tracks that shouldn't be found, sniffing the air every once in a while just like a wolf. Then, a few hours later, you emerge in front of a wide entrance to a cave. "SHOW YOURSELF!" they shout in a language only your wizard knows, draconic. And from the depths of that cave, a hulking green creature appears, surrounded by a thick greenish-yellow mist that burns your nostrils - a Green Dragon. Despair. That's the only thing you feel. You're not ready for this. What the fuck is going on? Shit, I'm dead. Then, in the blink of an eye, your friend lets go of their sword, their body swells, ripping the heavy armor they wear to twisted pieces of metal. They grow bigger then the green death before you, wings unfolded blocking the sun, a giant silver pile of muscle. The green dragon hisses. You never thought it could happen, but you see fear in the dragon's eyes. It tries to fly away, but the silver dragon unleashes a series of attacks like a wild animal. Claws, fangs, icy breaths that steal the heat of your bodies even at a distance. You try to find shelter, roars that shake the ground arround you. A few minutes - that felt like hours - of terror later, the sounds stop. The first who dares to look sees your friend, now without armor, but covered in bruises and cuts. Arround them, frozen trees and dead plants. And the massive corpse of the green dragon. "Well, at least the job is done, but I need another set orf armor hahahaha"

Dragons exude a aura that we'd describe best as a scent, but to other dragons its a way to communicate their presence. For humanoids it is a sense of dread we feel, but other dragons know it to be one of their own. So if you had a entire party of Silvers, they would know each other's presence before actually seeing them. And then a Copper Dragon would be laughing somewhere having set up the Silvers meeting as a prank. Also don't have a Dragon in your party if you intend on trapping a dragon or surprising it.

Another thing most people typically don't know about Silver Dragons: They're the most common Dragon specie to produce Half-Dragons. They frequently Polymorph into and live among the various humanoid races, and are known to form both platonic and romantic relationships with them. Due to the nature of a Metallic Dragon's Polymorph ability, anything that would likely result in a "Fade to Black" in most groups involving a humanoid and a Polymorphed Metallic Dragon could result in one party or the other eventually giving birth to a Half-Dragon. As for why Silver Dragon Half-Dragons are the most common... well, it's simple. They are the ones most likely to spend extended periods of time with humanoids, they're the ones that like humanoids the most to start off with, and they're the only ones that are able to view humanoids as anything other than "animals that cause problems".

I had a similar thought, but it ended very differently. Philo the dragon was raised by elves and trained with them as a ranger, in addition to his dragon levels. As an Adult, he went on a tour of a nearby evil kingdom accompanied by his ape animal companion, traveling with the Windmarch caravans and fighting in local pankration (MMA) bouts as a human. There were epic fights, a recurring bandit/ adventurer group in the employ of an evil merchant rival, an attractive gypsy, and sometimes opportunities to help out a person in need with his winnings (q.v. Clint Eastwood in "Every Which Way But Loose" for the core concept). Philo came back with a nice stash of money and a much better understanding of humans, but it's an evil kingdom. He saw that it wasn't just the ruling house; many of the people are also evil, and hurt each other any chance they get. He decided that he does NOT like humans, and is now an ally of the elven isolationist faction. * * His younger brother Rhyss takes a very different view, but he found Philo's stories from that trip hilarious and inspirational. Rhyss can talk anyone into anything (+30 Diplomacy), and may be about to invest some of his hoard and build a merchant empire/ shipping insurance consortium. Some good but roguish PCs would be just the ticket for all kinds of related swashbuckling/ intrigue missions, with a neat merchant option of their own as a way to get and spend treasure. As a side note, Rhyss has 3 Monk levels, and will enter local pankrations like his brother. But he enters to learn moves he doesn't know, not to win. He pulls his punches, uses elven aikido moves along with his dragon kung-fu style to buy space and time, makes it look good, and makes it last so he can see the other guy's full array. It's always exciting, but he taps out about half the time. Then he uses his charm and ends up drinking with his opponents. It's an unusual form of monk training, but as he gets better he's going to become a truly fearsome dragon to fight.

There's a logic that dictates their berserk fury when encountering a chromatic. It's because they don't go out of their way to find them and prefer to be around humanoids. If they find a chromatic, the logic is that the chromatic by definition is too close to the humanoids the silver is attached to. A super-intelligent guard dog, effectively.

There is a line of books having to do draconic curse in FR... I seriously forgot the name. But this curse affected all dragons before it was broken. Silvers there followed a gold dragon as King, and they were basically the knights of this gold dragon. I gotta talk about my favorite NPC in my current campaign, Cayndoss. He resides in a library in a tall mountain range. He did not build the library, it was abandoned when he found it and he patched it up and read what books remained there. He decided to make it his mission to accumulate more books in this library and help those seeking knowledge, and for centuries that is what he did. He even became a cleric of the knowledge god of our pantheon. Clerics of course cannot get familiars normally but we thought it fitting that Cayndoss might’ve been giften a Modron, as the knowledge god replaces Primus in our campaign. This Modron helps Cayn with organizing and finding books. The party did not know any of this. One player, Jørgen, sought out a cure for his wife’s infertility (long story short, she’s an artificial human and we ended up making a race for her), and all he knew was that the evil witch who had captured and experimented on him for a long time referred to Cayndoss once as “a nice young man,” so Jørgen assumes this person, who got along with the witch, must be evil too, and plots to kill him while they go up the mountain. The party eventually gets to this remote library, and they sneak in all carefully, and try to search for information. Unfortunately for them, I have 4 d100 tables of random books I got from reddit so they have no luck. Eventually the Modron sees them and they panic but it comes down and, as programmed, repeats a phrase. “Hello. Welcome. Cayndoss is not home.” Then it flies off. The party continues searching, and goes upstairs where there are three doors- one leads to a guest room, one to a storage room with a sign in front that says “Storage room- help yourself” and the last one, a locked door which has a sign saying “This is my room. Please stay out. Thanks, Cayndoss.” Jørgen and his wife decide to unlock the door, while the cleric of the party has a chat with some Nothics hiding within the library, managing to talk his way out of a fight (which I was fine with.) There is first a magic mouth spell from Cayndoss, warning them to not proceed or they will be hurt. The sorcerer, a runechild, uses a class ability and sees two runes on the floor- “pain” and “death.” The sorcerer soaks up the pain symbol with their high Constitution saves. Jørgen, a ranger, didn’t have as high a Constitution and triggered the death symbol. He didn’t die, but his pained yell alerted the Modron who said “DANGER. DANGER. LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.” Jørgen panicks and shoots it, and in one turn reduces it to 4hp, causing it to flee towards the door of the building. The party pursues and Jørgen lands a long range shot, causing it to crumble into dust. Then they see it. A silvery shape in the distance, getting larger. They run inside and hide, unsure of what they got into. Cayndoss, in dragon form, slams the giant doors open and demands to know what is going on- he doesn’t know what or who killed his Modron and broke into his room but he doesn’t take too kindly to it. After a few rounds of investigation, he spots the sorcerer with his blindsight who is trying to invisibly hide under a table. He tells her to “Come out peacefully and I will not kill you.” She does, and he finds out about the others and scolds them for a bit, but seeing that they were expecting someone evil (and also not a dragon) and needed help (also they didn’t steal anything from his hoard) he sighed and turned back into his favorite form, a moon elf. He gave them the information they needed, and after the session Jørgen’s player told me how surprised he was that Cayn was just a nice guy and not evil. I still find their shock hilarious at seeing an adult silver dragon burst through the doors, but if they were nice then they would’ve gotten a completely different experience from a moon elf who is genuinely happy to meet them, instead of a grumpy one who got off to a bad start. He would’ve offered them tea and completely forgotten to mention that he’s a dragon. Oh also they’re debating ratting the Nothics out to him since they asked the cleric to not tell Cayn they were there. Do they love humanoids or just humans? Do silver dragons may pick a humanoid race to favor? Would be interesting to see silver dragons geek and debate about their favored races: - “I’ve known a family of humans, I know them for 6 generations, they started from farmers to total royalty, seeing them make a whole kingdom from nothing. Humans are the best - Seriously? The only thing they do is fight each other, elves on the other hand are WAY more interesting, they are very diverse culturally and racially, very educated and with the ability to see past lives when young and share information via visions when old (and their craftsmanship is simply gorgeous) - Yeah, but they always have the head in the clouds, never considering the now, and they are a bunch of squares, dwarves and gnomes on the other hand know how to enjoy the simple treats of life, they are as good at making tools and jewelry as they are at making parties, see this necklace? I got it from a well-known artisan in Latan (had to kill a red dragon for it)” (And the debate goes on and on)
@crestfallensunbro60015 жыл бұрын
The main problem with silver dragons preferring other races to humans is their relative longevity, one of the biggest reasons silver dragons like humans so much is their short but vibrant life spans. from what i can tell the silver dragons thoughts on humans are along the lines "they are a brief but beautiful spark in a still world".
@deadmanmouse24635 жыл бұрын
Also there are a ton of other short lived races that silver dragons could love. Some have even shorter life spans than humans. I think it's mostly the concept of a candle that burns twice as fast burns twice as bright. Also I think the biggest reason we as humans impress them is because of our epic accomplishments in such short times.

@@IAmCasualty According to the books depicting a dragon curse that was broken a while ago, silver dragons served as knights to Lareth the gold dragon considered king by most metallics. They do have a code of conduct and moral compass, but they don't go out of their way to impose this code on others. They have no issue with working with authority either. That still fits in Lawful Good, but perhaps with a light leaning towards Neutral. Silvers also consider honor something great to them. Honor is a very lawful attribute - not just lawful good. Silver dragons equate to knighthood and paladin-like attributes and the ones who follow a god, follow Bahamut, enemy of Tiamat.

Really awesome dragons, not only because of their power, but because they’re not above sharing a meal with humanoids, they’ll heal your wounds and nurse you back to health (they’re like mixing Arthur Wesley and Médecins sans Frontiers), they are like Prometheus and Quetzalcoatl, beings that despite their power, they admire those “little and weak beings”, maybe in a parental way, kinda like how you make a bond with a Sim or a Pokémon, you feel an emotional connection, you may feel more capable than them because you are real and they are a bunch of numbers, but you care for and about them. (And in my opinion, if they love humans, they’ll ADORE rock gnomes, too bad they’re always hiding (the hidden folk after all)) My question is: is it possible for a silver dragon to actually fall in love with a humanoid? To marry a humanoid, to make the oath towards them? It would be interesting in how a humanoid may be a young adult silver dragon’s first love, maybe hide their identity under a Polymorph spell (I know only ancient ones can, but a necklace or ring with the spell works too), maybe stay out of combat or using just only enough strength, only for healing the team’s wounds after or during combat (seriously, a Bahamut cleric doesn’t sound bad). Maybe would start developing feelings for one of the party members (maybe viceversa, maybe make a love triangle, DMs rejoice >:D), then either by their own will or a chromatic dragon’s apparition, they’ll drop the costume and go beserk, and in the heat of the battle, a PC may get harmed in the way (either the SD’s love interest or someone the loved PC loves), maybe running away from the shame and remorse or getting kicked out of the party... just... DUDE. If you’re already here, thanks for reading all this text :) Now, for a future video, it would be nice to see one about steel dragons, the other humanoid loving dragon.

Silver Dragons in Dragonlance sometimes fell in love with humans/humanoids. Check out the Legend of Huma novel for example. Very rarely does this happen with dragons, even Silvers.
@zacharyhawley16935 жыл бұрын
Dragons can and have had children with anything. There are abundant half-dragons for a reason. A silver dragon is one that isn't about to let their favored human family just abruptly end without heirs. A lone survivor of such a family will have suitors that the dragon nudges in their direction. If that survivor is good enough(ala paladin or cleric of a good deity) Or just a straight up a truly good person. They will court them assuming they aren't married or have the blessing of their draconic partner.(making family get-togethers quite a spectacle)
@chakatBombshell5 жыл бұрын
Yes they can fall in love with them and often have several adopted human families in there lives, silvers are responsible for the most human born half-dragons which they happen to dote over and care for a ton. Really makes things awkward for the town knowing that friendly guy at the tavern you drink with is a dragon though since silvers won't run off from a kid being a deadbeat or irresponsible parent is an alien concept to them. In 3.5 There is an entire sub-race of humans called Silver brow humans who are distant relatives of a bunch of silver dragons that are really diluted in draconic features and one silver decided to make a community of them which then turned into a small city.
@IgnisFiend5 жыл бұрын
Well, if you think it would be cool, make it happen. But if you whant official info, your idea is not out of what the monster manual says; it is posible for a polymorfed dragon to have children with a humanoid, the result will be a half dragon. These creatures are included in the monster manual if you whant to know more about them.
@Darasilverdragon5 жыл бұрын
I can indeed confirm that we are responsible for the greater majority of half-dragon humanoids in the world. Half dragons of other sorts are usually deliberate attempts to breed such, but with silvers... ...well, we've got a lot of love to spread. ...and we do. A lot. @rageoftyrael5 жыл бұрын
@Sacred Icon You must be religious, because I can't see any other reason why anyone would argue against moral relativism. I think the thing people need to realize is that moral relativism, if reduced to it's barest components, can be little more than "It's my opinion that this is okay" but it's not really that simple. The idea is really more along the lines that there is no objective morality. We all, as a society, decide what is right and wrong. Think to yourself, how many people actually live their lives in an evil manner, due to some kind of moral relativism? Do some exist? I'm sure, but most people, even those who believe and understand moral relativism still behave in a manner generally consistent with societal moral standards. If I'm arguing moral relativism to someone, it isn't to say that there is no right and wrong, it's merely to point out that in a cosmic sense, there is no objective right or wrong. We decide collectively what is right and wrong, and that can change as times change.

I see Silver Dragons as being adherents to the philosophy of "Nobless Oblige" or "Nobility Obliges", where due to their stature and power, they have an obligation to defend and look after those in their care, even at the cost of their own life. I also believethat Silver Dragons would be the ones most likely to have Half-Dragon children, due to their love and fondness for humans. Plus, if Adventurers are ever in over their heads with regards to any Chromatic Dragon, a Silver would probably be the best sort of Metallic to seek out for aid, as their core philosophy would demand that the Silver provide such assistance. And then there would be the inherent and undying hatred between Metallics & Chromatics.

That tends to describe most metallic dragons, honestly. Gold and Bronze dragons also believe that their power and majesty obliges them to help their 'lessers,' they just do it in a more instructive/condescending way. Silvers let you do as you will so long as you're not hurting anyone, but Gold and Bronze might insist that the way you're doing things is the _wrong way_ and that if you just _listened_ and did things _the way they are telling you_ then everything would just be _so much betTER FOR YOU AND EVERYO- GOD DAMMIT I AM TRYING TO HELP YOU LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE, YOU MORTAL INSECT!"_

Something I notice about the metallic dragons is that none of them are capable of defeating evil alone, but they each represent aspects of the fight for good. Gold dragons represent stamping it out before it begins. Bronze dragons represent bringing justice to wrongdoing. Silver dragons represent rehabilitation and healing the wounds that evil creates. Brass dragons represent the understanding necessary to prevent evil from arising. Finally, copper dragons represent the freedom and support that we need to allow good people to rise to the occasion. Together, the metallic dragons are embodiments of all sides of goodness.

There's a kingdom in the homebrew campaign I run, known simply as Virtue. It's very Camelot and their primary religion is Bahamut, the platinum dragon. When first founded, the new kingdom beseeched the aid of the silver dragon Stellagosa to fight off the ravages of marauding "rotkin" and their "god" the black dragon Skallathax. Fast forward 1200 years and that same dragon keeps a close watch over the human kingdom, delighting in their growth and prosperity. Her image is the kingdom's heraldric device, a silver dragon on a field of blue. She is still friends with the unbroken line of kings and, unknown to all, has slipped in and out of history as a human observer. Currently, she's decided to get a closer look while lending aid, serving as the current high priestess of Bahamut after the former high priest's passing from old age. Only a few know of her current humanoid persona, but she's remained a true ally of her "children" since their first steps on the path of chivalry.

I strongly agree with the Gold Dragon philosophy. It has some interesting implications though : If a good character attacks an evil creature by virtue of alignment alone, and that evil creature never did anything to harm anyone, it would treat the evil creature as good and innocent and the good creature as evil and worthy of its fury. It would make for an interesting campaign scenario.

Darasilverdragon thank you for yours, and don’t worry most of these are heirlooms or things I made several hundred give or take years ago, benefit of being a high level Druid turned dm 😂

Man, thank you so much for these videos! :) I'm a beginning DM and all of your videos helped me with creating my world and campaign! Thank you so much again and please, keep up the good work. :)

you should consider doing a video on half dragon lore. some of the colors I just don't see ever happening. silver and blue I see as the most likely to produce half dragons, greens and coppers possibly, but when it comes to the other colors I honestly don't see it. and yet there are half dragons of all the colors.

And this is why the Emperor in my home D&D setting is an ancient Silver Dragon.

Very very interesting! Like always, great video. Silver Dragons are in fact so in touch with other humanoids, and mostly humans, that they sometimes even mate with those humanoids. When you see a Sorcerer with a draconic heritage, even if the manuals has made it so you can choose your ancestor type, lorewise they are very most of the time descendants of a Silver Dragon who, long ago, has fell in love with a humanoid being. In 3.5 editions, they even had a specific sub-human race called ''Silverbrow Human'' who was a typical human with draconic lineage and, funny thing, the ability to cast Feather Fall as a spell-like ability.
