Yeah, Tiamat was a great goddess loved by my friends in our group ADnD 2nd e. group. So much so we played an almost nonstop campaign that spanned from 1993 to 1999. Playing almost every weekend during the school year. Playing all night from Friday at 6pm all the way to 9 or 10am Saturday morning. Sleep then start again around 2 or 3 pm and play till Sunday morning. lol, Sleep all day Sunday for school Monday. When summer vacation came around. It was more spread out during the week. So what did we do during these 6 years of play? Well once our players got max level. We Took over all 9 layers of hell. Ended the eternal war with Devils and Demons. With the same method use in the Diablo game with e prime evils. Our characters separated the rulers of the 9 hells from their bodies, soul, and power. Shattered their soul crystal so they couldn't return ever. Feed their bodies to Tiamat, Freeing her in the process but instead of to attack Bahamut full-on once free. The Tiamat and the party made it still look like she is caged in hell so that scrying gods don't try to interfere and warn the other realms. Each of us players took all the powers for our selves and dominated all 9 hells. Turning the 9 hells from a chaotic mess to a united and organized front of both devils and demons. Thus remaking the entire layers in a new image. My character took the Malbolge layer and made it into the crown jewel of hell for all things magics creating the realms own magical weave for 9 layers that eventually bleed into all realms completing a circuit were the 9 hells has access to all realms and planes, but we didn't attack them. That would have been a dumb thing to do. Instead, we turn the 9 hells into the most prosperous plane that made everyone want to come to hell. The players were elevated to godhood in the 9 hells we were we all worked together to maintain this new version of hell. Don't get me wrong hell still place for suffering for the sins but now it is 1000 times more efficient and with add tourism that makes you keep wanting to come back. lol

I've always assumed that everything in the Nine Hells is a prisoner, even the lords themselves. Hell is a place of punishment, and just like how the Devil is a prisoner in ice in Dante's Inferno (the main inspiration for the Nine Hells concept), every demon lord is bound to their layer in some way and has limitations placed on their powers. That would explain the variance in the description of Tiamat's role in Avernus.

Hybrid of Fang and Black dragons. Kinda like how we breed types of dogs, she tried to incorporate the Fangs for their power. This is simular to how deep/purple dragons came from black Dragons, and then became the original shadow dragons.

@joshdavis44384 жыл бұрын
@@Aerowarrier Yes this is correct. Through breeding means, thus they have a simular acid breath to blacks. Fangs... can fly somewhat but prefer to jump and glide, oddly. I believe his video addressing them uses both as the topic. A bit sad that the Greys are commanded to hunt down and exterminate all Fangs until they are extinct. Another case where draconic lore deviates between Krynn/Dragonlance and most of the rest of D&D settings. Takhisis is a similar but very different deity. The image of the wizard in front of her is actually Raistlin in front of Takhisis, referencing his trip into the Abyss (also uniquely different in Dragonlance than other settings) and there is even a comic image that says Takhisis.

28:00 Hold up. You said earlier that she eats those hydra dragon kids specifically to safeguard her own power. And she lives in the Hells, a place where everyone will overthrow you if you take a second to breath. She is also evidently not even a true God since she can age and such...and she basically does the conquest and break out thing specifically to A: Survive and B: Cause she was betrayed. Look, I get her actions are 100% evil and selfish, but it kinda feels unfair to say she does this because she enjoys it. She needs minions, Mortal plane dragons aren't always strong enough and she readily loses the souls of Dragons who come to her. Also there are a lot of reptile species that will mate with offspring because inbreeding isn't an issue for them...thus the same stigma that most races have with it just doesn't exist for her. Really Tiamat's entire gig kinda sounds like she is getting beaten down on every day of the week and then blamed for getting beaten down on. As in, she does what she does to survive, not cause she enjoys it. Plus her own kids are well known to be extremely power hungry, so keeping the ranks low in number basically ensures she survives. Geez, someone give these dragons a hug. If they had the opportunity to change and the belief that they would be able to benefit from the change I'm pretty sure their evil tendencies to survive would go away. Yo Bahamut, I've got an idea!

Honestly debatable if she is actually evil, or just a desperate animal cornered and trying to survive. Like, Rhexx said she "enjoyed" eating her kids, but earlier said that she did so to preserve her power. Pretty big difference there, and I'd argue her entire thing is just survival at this point.

@clayxros5764 жыл бұрын
@@antarath517 From what I've seen, debatable. A lot of the gods and primordials (which its implied that's what she was) are pretty screwed by where they just happened to land after the Lost Realms were created. Sure she gets the enjoyment wherever she can find it (and the Hells are stated to have corrupted her over time) but I wouldn't go as far as to say she chose this position. If she fell into the higher planes with that Coatle god she probably would be a Chaotic Good character rather than the evil she is. Dragons would still probably be nuts though.
@antarath5174 жыл бұрын
@@clayxros576 In a philosophical way, our personality and thus many of our choices are created by our past experiences (and genetics). Just because Tiamat was forced into evil doesn't mean we should attempt to find a different thing to call her other than evil. She may not have been evil when she fell to the lower planes, but she certainly is now.

1:15: A poster of a Dragonlance scene as told in "Dragons Of Spring Dawning", featuring Takhisis, Queen Of Darkness in her temple in Sanction. The prisoner, Laurana (Lauralanthalasa), known by the entire continent of Ansalon by that point in the War Of The Lance as the Golden General, is flanked by a Sivak Draconian on the viewer's right (Silver) and either a Baaz or Kapak Draconian (Brass or Copper respectively) 4:32: Apparently a Dragonlance portrait due to the name Takhisis present in the top panel. I don't speak the language, though. 11:10: "Takhisis is not Tiamat'' -- Yet, here we are with another Dragonlance image. The Black Robed mage, Raistlin Majere is here with the glowing hourglass. In the Twins Trilogy (Time Of The Twins, War Of The Twins, Test Of The Twins) Raistlin's ultimate goal is to enter the Abyss and battle Takhisis with the intent to kill her and take her place amidst the pantheon. Whether this image takes place in the Abyss or not is not known to me The three major gods of Krynn - Paladine, Takhisis, and Gilean, are all known by different names in the world. Gilean is the God Of Neutrality and is the Lorekeeper, whose avatar resides in Palanthas' Great Library recording everything that is happening in the world. Throughout the novels I read I never saw any other names given to him. Paladine, however, very blatantly advertises who he is by the end of "Dragons Of Spring Dawning" to both the reader and to Tasslehoff, telling him names like Bahamut among one race, Io to the Elves, the Platinum Dragon to others, and a few other names. He is introduced in the prologue of the first novel, "Dragons Of Autumn Twilight" but his identity is never hinted at until partway through the second novel, "Dragons Of Winter NIght'' when he confronts Silvara, a Silver Dragon disguised as an elf, about breaking 'The Pact' in front of the Companions Of The Lance. Takhisis, on the other hand, has titles that are by no means hidden by anyone. Queen Of Darkness is her official title, and Tiamat is stated outright on many occasions as being one of the other names she goes by, not just by the entire dragon population. Her symbol? A dragon with five chromatic heads. The portal to the abyss in the Tower Of High Sorcery even has a portal to the Abyss that, in Ouroboros style, has five dragon heads of chromatic coloring that circle the outside of what is otherwise a mirror. These three gods each have a constellation in the sky, Gilean in the middle while the other two are on either side of him facing one another. If their avatars are on Krynn there is an empty void where their constellations are...even though Gilean is always present. Also, Paladine and Takhisis are constantly being referred to as brother and sister, watching over one another in case of treachery. After the War Of Souls trilogy, which transitioned the world from 2e to 3.0 / 3.5e I stopped reading the novels altogether from bother Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms. One day I will pick that back up again. I'd love to TRY and catch up on the Saurials of the Forgotten Realms as well as what the former First Dragonarmy Engineers are doing these days.

From 4e, Hammerfast and one of the Scales of War adventures each include a multiheaded dragon. The Scales of War adventure is Alliance at Nefelus in Dungeon 165 and has a two-headed white dragon. Gith and red dragons would be better explained in a video focusing on the gith lore. Clerics gain her favor by making offerings of gold and treasure. Tiamat is stuck in the Nine hells so she has no interactions with giants, dragons and giants are ancient enemies but it is primarily a cold war at this point because they both have greatly diminished numbers compared to the past

Wrong. Tiamat *_is_* Takhisis. WotC monster mythology indicates they are one and the same. "... both Bahamut and Tiamat appeared prominently in the Dragonlance Chronicles adventures (1984-1986) under the new names of Paladine and Takhisis." I am thinking since WotC owns the IP for DnD one can safely assume they are the same. Reference: dnd.wizards.com/articles/feat...ster-mythology Also, in Dragonlance, they straight up say that Takhisis is known as Ti'maht in another culture further in the world. Same god, different version. Despite what Hickman and Weiss say. Just like they still lie and say Fizban isn't Zifnab. They lied because of copyright way back when, and just won't admit it now that copyright is no longer an issue.
