Fiji, a country in the South Pacific, is an archipelago of more than 300 islands. It's famed for rugged landscapes, palm-lined beaches and coral reefs with clear lagoons. Its major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, contain most of the population. Viti Levu is home to the capital, Suva, a port city with British colonial architecture. The Fiji Museum, in the Victorian-era Thurston Gardens, has ethnographic exhibits.

Love your video! Just one thing..people of Fiji don't like it when you leave the air conditioning on and go out as it is exepensive and adds to their bills and isn't great for the environment. They prefer you turn it on when you come in the house. It takes less than 10 minutes to cool your place! ❤❤❤

If you don't want to buy then don't buy it, but don't say it's a tourist Trap cause it's not, you're portraying them as like scammers. All I see is women that want to show case their fijian artifacts and by the way that's what we do also in our normal lives, we make artifacts for functions and cultural events. If you want to document the real fijian culture get in contact with Fijians thats living in the village. That's not nice of you telling viewers to be careful...Fijians are one of the nicest people you'll know, they don't fake being nice to you. Those women are stay at home mothers, resorts organisers tourists to experience the village life and this one way the village mothers earn money by selling artifacts. Just be nice and respectful, don't have to buy anything if you don't want to. You wanted to go to the wedding?? You got to be invited and properly dressed, just cause your American doesn't give you the entittlement to act however you want or do whatever you want. You want to see the real Fiji, first you need to learn how to communicate with Fijians, learn how to dress respectfully when entering a village and it's nice to ask people if its okay to film them.

If you really want to know the true identity of an I-Taukei or the other part that KZbinrs dont show then get an Indigenous Fijian to show you around. Firstly, let me correct your tour guide, Sigatoka valley is not a village. Secondly, those Itaukei living in the valley are not poor. Yes they are farmers and they supplies vegetables of all kinds and crops to towns in the western and even import out of Fiji. Thirdly, your tour guides are not indigenous fijian but Indian descendants arrived in Fiji back in the days. They dont live in a village setup they live in settlements. We Indigenous fijian or the Itaukei are known for our hospitality, care, love and how we conserve our traditions and culture. People around the globe who's been to Fiji knows that. Fiji tourism are not scammers (tourist trap or whatever you're labelled those itaukei ladies with). We values our identity more than money and whatever you think of the tourism. Next time if you think of visiting again, get in touch with and Itaukei if you really wanna know deep about Fiji's culture.

That pottery village is well known in Fiji. I was working as a tour Guide before and we don’t force people to buy anything because that’s not part of our culture. Next time try to find the right people if you wana go to the right place, especially the Native People.

Thanks for watching! Why are you saying that they are not native Fijians? Please explain as I’m not sure I understand. They are from there and also have villages. Maybe there’s something I’m missing. Please clarify if you don’t mind. Secondly, the people taking me around do know exactly what I’m looking for. In fact, we spoke extensively for days before this video was filmed. Be aware that not everything makes it on the Final Cut of the video. Furthermore, I’m not speaking about your experience, mine differs clearly. It may have been very different. Of course nobody can ultimately force you to buy anything. However, it was very aggressive and I felt very uncomfortable as it was extremely pushy. That’s why I left. Tour guides are not the ones selling stuff in there. It’s the people working inside who are aggressive vendors. This sorts of things happen around the world in places set up for tourists. Who is surprised ? That’s why I avoid them.

@@IvainTures the people you are with are Indian Fijians (that's why they are Hindu!) not native Fijians. In the past there has been friction between the Indians and native Fijians that's why there was a Military take over of the government some years ago. @@IvainTures they are Indo Fijians,Indian Descendants. When you went to that village Pottery Village, you were suppose to go as a Hotel Tour, but they took you there as if they just wanted you to go,that’s why the man asked,is anyone at the Pottery? In the village there’s always things to be done as a village cause living in the village we have Laws. The Indian Lady should be wearing a Sulu or Skirt when going into the village. No bags to be worn on the shoulder but to hold it in your hands. This is part of Fijian Cultures. You can be scolded if the Fijian Elders see you not following the rules. If you read some of the comments some kept saying it better to speak with the native people,it’s because we value the importance of our culture, traditions and especially our Laws. @@BigGuyPrime You want proof lad? Im part Abo and i can see this. I will send u a bunch of research papers with proof. Fijians, Solomon Islanders, and other Melanesians are a recently diverged group who sailed out of Papua New Guinea around maybe 3kya. So papuans, were one group with Australian aboriginals until the landmass separated, but where did this group come from. We can see who are the closest related groups to papuans using an online search. ‘The genetic makeup of Papuans is primarily derived from Ancient East Eurasians, which relates them to other mainland Asian groups such as the "AASI", Andamanese, as well as East/Southeast Asians’ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigenous_people_of_New_Guinea#:~:text=The%20genetic%20makeup%20of%20Papuans,2%25%2C%20next%20to%20additional%20archaic. For those who do not know, AASI are the Ancient Ancestral South Indian people, which make up about 1/3 to half of most indian DNA today and in some populations higher. So they say they are related to other south-east asian groups. Let’s now fit the puzzle. So the negrito group of Phillipines, the Aeta, have very similar DNA to papuans theculturetrip.com/asia/philippines/articles/the-aeta-the-first-philippine-people#:~:text=According%20to%20historians%2C%20the%20Aetas,and%20Melanesians%20of%20Solomon%20Islands. So this link says, ‘they're of the same group as those of Aborigines in Australia and Melanesians of Solomon Islands.’ It also says they have affinities to other southeast-asian groups such as the Orang asli. Now who are the Orang asli, and where are there origins, let’s search this up, go on. Malaysian genetic experts ‘Genetic studies date Malaysia's Orang Asli back to India somewhere between 42,000 to 63,000 years ago’. theculturetrip.com/asia/malaysia/articles/the-history-of-malaysias-orang-asli-people#:~:text=Genetic%20studies%20date%20Malaysia's%20Orang,People'%2C%20Malaysia's%20oldest%20inhabitants. So yes, we can state that an ancient population moved out of india, into south-east Asia, Papua and Australia, and into the Melanesian islands. So you will probably be wondering how come indians don’t look like them. Well they do, you see alot of indians can be very dark, with broad noses. However, one thing about india is that it is also home to another native population, around 50,000 years ago called the ANI. Both the AASI and ANI mixed to create modern indians. Almost all indians have this mixture, even the tribal areas, but tribal areas have more proportion of AASI. That is why the population of india is so large, because it is the home to the oldest populations.

Ivain , between 1879 and 1916 the British plantation owners brought in about 60,000 indentured workers from India. The people you met are descended from these people. Also more came as traders. There is an issue between the two cultures the Melanesian Fijians and the Indo Fijians (Indians). A Melanesian Village is very different from a Indo Fijian. As Fiji gained is Independence from Britain but remained part of the Commonwealth, the differences grew. There was a Military Coup in the 1980s and many of the business people of Indian descent left Fiji for Australia and New Zealand. The Indo Fijians make up 38% percent of population but own less than 2% of the land. The Melanesians original Fijians hold their tribal lands. Some of the hotels are built on leased lands held by Melanesian Fijians. It is on the 2 main Islands you will see the Indian and ever growing Republic of China nationals. Hope this helps explains the mix. Australians and NZers make the biggest tourist group.

Indo-Fijians do not have villages or own land; they lease or buy it. They were brought here by the British colonial government as sugarcane farmers. Ivan , you make the mistake for thinking or assuming that most ( people ) countries & cities , etc., that you travel too , know where Cameroon is located. I have traveled to more than 45 plus countries and most people do not have a clue , when it comes to travel as well as geography . The school system does not teach this. By living in D.C., you should well know all about the mis - education. in the U.S. of A. , as well as in other places in the world. As an educator in NYC for over 30 years , as well as traveling to varìus parts of Africa since 1980 , I definitely know what I am talking about . These people are not indigenous Fijians , it is obvious that they are Indian descent . In the future, I strongly suggest that when traveling abroad, let the people that you encounter , know that you are from Cameroon , West Affrica , etc, it makes sense to always include this because most people in the U.S. of A , don:'t know where the heck is Camerron, so why do you falsely assume that others know. The next time when you tell someone that you are from Cameroon , ask the person or persons do they know where Cameroon is located. That is what you get , you should have found the original African Fujians .

The Native Fijian History and Livelihood should be part of your next Journey brother. Visit villages, live the livelihood and history. Most villages are in the Interior highlands with different struggles of livelihood and village in the islands where the beach and they can host you for the purpose of you vaintures with different struggles of their livelihoods. If you were with the real people, then you would have gotten your eyes opened to Traditional weddings, bithdays and many tradional livelihoods etc. Once again, great videos. Surely your vaintures was foreseen and measured before your arrival to Fiji. Reason being given the diversion, that secrets of Fiji livelihood will always be exchanged with smiles and you will live with what you came for VAIN. Thank you for the title of your gain, we love you from the Fiji Islands.

Pottery was not good. It’s a globalised world and you can get any item anywhere now if you want. But commercialisation of everything has ruined the natural world. No one to blame here. It’s just better to explore on our own, I think..

This is not fijian village mate. You need to go to the highlands or the islands to see real fiji. Those are people who came over who settle around the suburbs. So you have been faked to see the real fiji....too bad..

Hey bro, just some background information, that most people do not know, because the British tried to turn both populations against each other by religion and all!: Okay, so basically, Fijians, Solomon Islanders, and other Melanesians are a recently diverged group who sailed out of Papua New Guinea around maybe 3kya. Side note: you guys just listen to the propaganda of Bollywood, which is just run by Arab men, if you see real South Indian movies like Pushpa: the rise, you will see so many Melanesian looking actors because they portray another side of india.

The last I checked , Indians do not look like Fijians nor share the same culture and values in how they go about their lives, we are very distinct peoples , Fijians , Indians , Chinese , Europeans , we All(races) are known more for our distinct cultures , work ethics , values, strengths and weaknesses. The Races are different but we can work together should we choose to do so, apparently for more then 100 years it hasn't happened between the native fijian and Indians born in fiji over four generations and counting , but not to worry indians are down to about 17% as of last censes if iam correct and that number will rapidly approach almost zero over the next 5 to 10 years and then hopefully the native Fijians will be at peace at last.

@@ricgee1990 Yeah, because indians are a mixture of people who look like Aboriginals, Arab and melanesian. I will give u a few to shush ur racist sentiments that really look like Fijians. Denisvaran Krishnan (rugby player Looks Fully KVT, but he is 100% South Indian), Animesh Kujur( Young Indian Sprinter, looks Aboriginal/TSI) Manikanda Rajan(famous actor who looks Aboriginal Australian), Droupadi Murmu (India president Who looks Aboriginal/Bougainville)Senthil Krishna (Actor) sathya sai baba (spiritual visionary), Yogi Babu, Roy Krishna, Besant Ravi, Raghava Lawrence, Allu Arjun Pushpa, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari
