Yeah, you should watch some of the full length interviews with Rob. He has a lot of those profound one liners. The big thing that still makes me well up is when he talks about kissing his wife and kids goodbye for what he thought and assumed was the last time, because they ALL expected the Bin Laden raid to be a 1 way trip. They all were expecting to die while in Pakistan on the bin laden raid. But when he says he did the mission anyway for the woman who jumped to her death off the tower and still had the decency to hold her skirt down as she plunged to her death, and for all the other people in the towers that lost their lives because of this guy (bin laden), they all (all the seals) decided to sacrifice themselves to get justice for the families of the fallen. Wow, just such a powerful statement. That is true heroism right there. Doing the right thing for your fellow countrymen, no matter the cost. It reminds me of the Pararescue creed “...these things we do, so that others may live...”. 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. God bless our men and women in the military. We sleep soundly at night because rough men and women stand ready to confront (and commit) violence on our behalf

it needs to be the "correct" choice. that is not semantics there is a difference. here is another difference. i am retired CG and did 5yrs of contracting in iraq for DoS. mobile 75% of the time. and "no" i do not have a YT channel and talk endlessly on my exploits, actions, conduct, ect. there is no me, me, "me" and me aspect like in these discussions. another aspect-these guys and mr. "i did bin laden" if you hear, read all there talk and others. a proper foreign operative can solve the puzzle on training, equipment and tactics. might come to a grand big surprise here..but non-US citizens, outside of the US watch, learn and probably "record" these near tell-all "bs" YT shows. nobody. i mean n-o-b-o-d-y can talk hours and hours on end like these guys do (for reasons i have utterly no idea why-except $ and ego) without revealing sensitive information on those topics. from my mission time, i knew later 2 retried agency guys. one living in the philippines. you would never know it. he looks the part, educationally, knowledge is there. low key is an understatement. even in the PI islands all respect and like him. he 'yapps to NOBODOY like these guys do on YT. if you asked him to be a "guest" one of these YT channels he would laugh at you and walk out the door. has a hot 29yoa PI wife, dog, home and teaches online at a US college. even there he is listed as a "retried" govt. employee from DoE. o'neil even braggs how people buy him drinks in the bar at the gate of the domestic airports. -boasting and talk is weakness...limiting communication is "king"-

I have to paraphrase a bit because it's been awhile since I watched it but Michael Palin put out a documentary about traveling the Himalayas and in it he talks about an Afghan village whose members have blond hair and blue eyes and speak Greek because they descend from the time of Alexander the Great's conquests. Imagine that kind of remoteness and isolation . Not to mention just how many times armies have tried to take this land .

I thought that the guy who saved Marcus Luttrell and took him into his home, said that the goat herder wasn't the one who warned the Taliban that the Seals were there. He said they already knew that the Seals were there due to the loud choppers they arrived on. That's how they were able to mobilize and track them so fast. I believe he also said that there was no more than 15 to 20 Taliban fighting against the Seals, which is still a heck of a lot of fire power for ANY four trained soldiers. That's why Luttrell and the guy who saved his life had a falling out. Because that guy had a problem with Hollywood's story. And didn't want to go along with the lie. At least that's what I saw on a documentary of Mohamed Gulab.

The problem I had with Lone Survivor is that Hollywood made it and said it was "the truth". In hindsight, it couldn't be further from the truth. If Hollywood had said, Lone Survivor is a tale of misfortune that involved ultimate sacrifice and full of incredible action, it may have been regarded as one of the best ever films of its genre. RIP to all who died.

Whether he had full mags or not, he was seriously wounded, it’s hard to know what the right thing to do if that’s you. If everyone around you is overrun and you’re wounded, do you die to die with your brothers or do you live to fight another day? I don’t think any of us can know what was right, even if his story is embellished, which from what I’ve heard was the brass’s PR decision as well.

When this story came out it was a huge topic of conversation in the long range reconnaissance community. Initially the recommendation was for army LRS to handle the job. They weren't because they didn't want to ask the army for help. Now army LRS had decades of experience in this mission and when we reformed the units back in the 80s we rewrote the doctrine and the subject of what to do when teams are compromised by civilians. They would have wound up in a shallow grave because the mission is paramount. We also had 6 guys for a reason. Any smaller and they lack the ability to defend themselves and larger and they can't hide. The SEALs should never have been given that mission and their arrogance kept them from seeing the clusterfuck it could turn into. Warfare is about using the right assets for the mission. It's amazing there was 1 survivor. But unfortunately we have to keep relearning lessons and trying to play catchup. The military thinks we don't need LRS teams and can do it with electronics.

Read the details about ORW and you'll discover they literally did everything wrong. Chose to land so close to their target that they got compromised immediately and were easily tracked down and ambushed by the locals. They went in so woefully unprepared that they had no chance of surviving the situation they put themselves in. And then, Marcus Luttrell gets rescued with all of his magazines still full of ammunition. It was more of an execution than an ambush honestly.

The most interesting part of lone survivor is when Marcus said that when Gulab found him he knew that he would help him. That means that he saw something or felt something where he could tell that he gave him the FULL CONTRACT. It's like the look where he's agreeing to fly into a building with you. He gave him the Thelma and Louis look where he knew that he was going to stick with to the end into the canyon. He gave him the FULL CONTRACT where whatever they did killing his family or whatever he's not going to break the contract. That's the weird part because that's kind of why you were there. You can see that in certain people where even if it's just work their not going to leave you even if it's 110 degrees. That's not "knowing war". that's a religious thing. That's like with marriage where it's supposed to be tell death and stuff but it's usually not really the FULL CONTRACT.

I can tell you what certain “investigative journalists” claim Gulab said and what he actually said are two totally different things. Also the fact that Lutrell and Gulab are friends also points to the supposed “journalist” being full of S$&t. When you actually dig into the story, you realize the person actually spreading this BS never talked to Gulab directly, they talked to a couple other people who knew ppl who knew Gulab and they said THROUGH A TRANSLATOR that they were told Gulab said all these things. The “Journalist” and I use that term loosely, then turned around and swore Gulab told him personally, which he did not and could not because the “journalist” doesn’t even speak Pashto, never traveled to Gulab’s village and never actually interviewed Gulab. Those are the facts. Everything else is here say.

So you expect us to believe Lutrell lost all of his medical supplies while tumbling down the side of the mountain but ALL OF HIS MAGS AND RIFLE were still on him and fully functioning??? Do you realize how absurd that is? Yet that is the story this supposed “journalist” is pushing and you are eating it up with a spoon. Hahaha. Test the theory. I’ll clack off a couple charges in front of you on a steep 60 degree angle mountain side and you can fall and tumble down the side... we’ll see how much stuff you still have on you when you finally stop falling. Let’s see how easy it is for you to retain ALL YOUR MAGS and your rifle... I’ll give you a hint, it’s almost impossible.

The movie got a lot of shit wrong. there’s video of the actual firefight and it’s only like 7-10 fighters at most, but really that’s all it would take if you were ambushed by guys who knew the terrain and had you outnumbered two to 1 but of course that doesn’t fit with the SEALS are invincible narrative so they made it like 100 fighters for the movie, also the guy who found Marcus said he found him with most of his kit still on, suggesting the gun fight was much more one sided than were led to believe.

The few fighters that ambushed them had been tracking them since they heard the helicopter land the night before on top of a specific and obvious flat ridge top... They found the dropped fast rope which wasn't buried and followed a trail of non native boot prints from that location... the immediate aftermath showing much of the most probable combat evidence that took place is actually on video... This ambush was set by just a few men including doing recon, then going and retrieving an old clunky camera for propaganda purposes after realizing it was only 4 Americans... They were not compromised by the goat herders, that was either a complete accident, made up, or used to gain more Intel about numbers of fighters and equipment for the ALREADY IN PLACE jihadists. (likely numbering between 8-12 men with RPKs, RPGs, and AKs based on the video evidence) With both possible escape routes already covered from high ground, once initiated there was little fighting to be done. Terrible mission selection with poor planning from SEAL command wanting to expand its role as a mainstay special operations GROUND based unit for ALL SEAL teams early in the GWOT is what caused this shit show... Everyone else who looked at this operation plan knew it was a terrible plan, Army backed out, but the SEALs took it on anyway, even knowing they would be their own fastest QRF and would have very limited air assets... After many years the SEALs got their wish of getting off the boats and out of the water... Time will tell if it was worth the lives and the lies and the lost capabilites in other specialties that now only a few of the already few can carry out... RIP to everyone on operation Redwings and peace to their families... Sometimes you don't want to hear the truth when a pleasant lie has been spread far and wide...

You know the movie was legit when the only thing he says they got wrong was how steep the mountains actually were. I was overly impressed at the fact that the firefight scenes were bang on. The changing of the mags, _(no Hollywood magazines)_ to hitting the bolt action, actual stoppages etc. The weapons handling drills was very well done. The chaos and carnage of a real fire fight was extremely well portrayed. Great movie.

"The only thing that wasn't true was the mountains weren't big enough". How about the fact that "Lone Survivor" is a complete revision of the actual event? Marcus is said to have fled the battle long before his team members had perished. He was found with 11 mags of ammo, which was confirmed by Muhammed Gulab and the Rangers who rescued him. Eric Deming a former Seal, said that Marcus was spotted on a surveillance Predator drone running away. It was the Navy who had the book commissioned, because they didn't want people to know what really happened, because it would've embarrassed the Seals.

That movie got a LOT of things wrong (as far as the book goes). Just like We Were Soldiers completely left out what happened at LZ Albany, which was more of a story, than X-Ray. I don't think anyone is buying the fact that a goat-herder turned them in. It's already been heavily insinuated that the Taliban knew they were in that area (because America forces have the tactile sensitivity of a rusty chainsaw. CH64's are as loud as a f%&king jumbo jet), and knew the SEAL's wouldn't kill unarmed civilians, so they sent in a goat herder with a radio for their own recon. Back then, we were a bull in a china shop, because we had yet to get our @sses handed to us. And, to a certain degree we're still like that. I believe Gulab said something along the lines that everyone knew they were there, they just didn't know how many. They heard that chopper throughout the entire valley. That said, you've gotta give props to these directors who attempt doing these war/battle movies, knowing it is literally impossible to capture the heroism, brutality, sensory-overload, and sheer trauma of combat. So, they know it's a failing undertaking before they even start. The same thing happened with the movie Red Platoon, which is a book that raised the hairs on the back of my f**king neck. Absolutely love Eastwood's son, and he played a great role, but nope...that didn't come close to the book either. And, last but not least....all those books only tell you what the military allows, so there's critical info that we're not "allowed" to know that would probably answer a lot of questions. Take a look at what we've learned about our gov't, and military brass since this battle, and nothing would surprise any of us. Why weren't those Blackhawk choppers available to assist the Chinooks when they went to get those SEALS out???? To this day, that info is "classified".
