If anybody new does not want to play as pyjama wearing space hippies, than there is a counterpart to the Arbiter, the KDF has the Kurak and the romulans have the Morrigu, they also have the same trait as the Arbiter and worth looking into.
@Jay-ql4gp8 ай бұрын
About the Arbiter...everything you said was accurate. Not to mention the traits of the Legendary Inquiry and Bortasqu are on point.
@axelhopfinger5338 ай бұрын
You forgot to add that the legendary battlecruiser bundle also offer two very powerful, if not semi-meta traits for DEW builds as account unlocks, a phaser and disruptor quad cannon, plus 3 of the consoles of the very useful Flagship technologies set which enhance pretty much every build. So if you have the money, do go for the legendary battlecruiser bundle over the C-store Arbiter, because you'll get a LOT more bang for your buck. Plus, the legendary Avenger is one of the best allround ships available atm. It is tough like a dreadnought, moves like an escort and has the firepower of a battlecruiser if built right. It's playing STO on easy mode really because you barely have to compromise on anything.

absolutely. the point was though: if you download a free game, maybe play for a day or two to see if you like it, you aren't going whale on DLC. you're going to dip your toe in the water maybe, and buy a single ship (or maybe you've been given a coupon or token or whatever). once you get the bug, maybe a couple of characters to 65, then you can think about big bundles. which is out of the scope of this video tbh

Agreed. She's a little slow and unwieldy, but thats easily remedied with Competitive Rep engines, and she's got plenty of hull and even a hangar bay for a little more pew pew support. On top of that her Command seating gives her great survivability with Suppression Barrage 3 in conjunction with self heals from Engineering BOff abilities or Uni consoles. Only way she could be better imo is if she had a 5/3 weapons layout.

Honestly I would recommend the pilot "science" andorian/nausican/dewan ship for science instead for the grav well trait. You do not need S.I.A to get started with science. You do need your grav well, one of your main science abilites, to last as long as possible for various interactions as you're improving your setup little by little. It does run into the issue of the ship not being a science ship, but the free ship you get at the end of leveling works fine for that as science can "make do" with a lesser ship for longer more than other playstyles since you really just need a commander science seat at the start as your boff skills do the heavy lifting at the start before you start stacking various screen covering universal consoles.
@peterhans37918 ай бұрын
I started with the Sommerville and I think that was more impressive than max uptime grav well, especially having 4 anomalies up (easily done given the intelligence seating on the Sommerville). Getting improved grav well felt more like a quality of life issue than making things dead issue.

To all the new players considering playing STO or considering spending money in the game DONT. The developers are all but gone, the game lag is insane, the amount of broken consoles and traits just keep getting worse. The game is on its last breath. Been playing the game for years and am top 1% pvp on xbox so trust me when i say to stay away. Company atm is just trying to squeeze as much money out of everybody before they shut down the server. People have spent hundreds if not thousands they dont deserve what cryptic has done. Figure i would tell the truth instead of encouraging people to play a dead game on its last breath.

Legendary battlecruiser bundle is a starter pack all around. Not only do you get the Legendary Avenger as a ship but the Bortasqu comes with the Flagship console set which is unlocked for all ships now. Basically, a discount DPRM and another good clicky console, Super charged weapons and Checkmate traits. Along with Emergency weapon cycle from the Avenger is very nice. Think you did the Arbiter a little dirty though. For a new player, a battle cruiser with decent turn rate and the ability to slot OSS to boost energy weapons is a reasonable amount of firepower. New player isn't keeping up with the meta and while not the best ship anymore, its not garbage either.
@barrybend71898 ай бұрын
One of my best picks for a starter in general is surprisingly the Akira bundle. You get a general purpose multirole ship that can function with a veriety of builds as a starter. That or the Titan as it's trait can heavily improve your playing.
@paulkirby27615 ай бұрын
This is why as a new player I haven't pulled the trigger on buying anything yet. There's just so many variables and factors outside of the ship itself such space sets, consoles, bridge officers, their skills, weapon types, equipment offering different buffs etc that the ship itself, while undoubtedly a big factor, seems only a large part of a big overall collection of factors that come together to become the final product. Another big factor of course(money not withstanding), is our own personal playstyle preference. Just like any other game, you could have "The best!" whatever it is in that game, appreciate its power, but ultimately not gel with it, or not like it or find it's style rather dull and something that doesn't keep you logging in for more. What I can say of my own personal taste in STO, is that I'm not going down the PvP path as I have enough of those games and find STO such a relaxing and interesting game with lost of little quests and things to do, TFOs, Admiralty, Reps, Duty Officer Missions, Crafting and selling on Exchange, playing story mode missions etc that I don't want to ruin this nice little escapism from busy real world and demanding PvP games by making it just another competitive source. To that end I can say I care less about the "Best!" ships and more about Trek classics from the series and movies like the Galaxy, Excelsior, D'deridex etc and while I'm sure those aren't meta nor greatest ships in the game, they're eye candy for me, will keep me playing STO longer, will be perfectly serviceable for PvE and I'm sure I'll be also building and playing them horribly wrong anyway!.. but having fun playing them badly! 🤣🤣

I'm a very new player and I got the Hydra for free with the (amazing) ticket that just dropped... And I do love the Hydra but... I'm having a bit of buyers regret over not getting The Lexington... Overall, I liked the Lexington just a liiiiiiittle bit more than the Hydra. But I really didn't like the pod on top of The Lexington and I figured, "A little hit to the stats, for a ship I like to look at is okay" Then I learned (after I got the Hydra) that the Pod on top of the Lexington can be removed at the tailor =( That said; I do love my Hydra *and* I think/hope the new Rex Pilot Escort will pair better with the Hydra, than it would with The Lexington so... #RookieMistake or #TimeWillTell

Which I honestly also love, but I've gotten through what few elite runs I could cue for on Xbox with the Legendary Ambassador. Also the 11th bundle had aged better than the 10th.......just saying. The Legendary ambassador is also a house with its survivability and the ability to run surgical strikes 3. Not going to set any records with it, but more than capable.

I use a eclipse Intel cruiser I love that thing and I have a list of about +80 ships really want. I use photon torpedoes 2 fore 2 aft, antiproton banks 2 fore, and 2 Omni directional antiproton on aft but is 360 degrees. Use torpedo spread 3 and use beams to soften up my targets. It’s pretty fast and agile for a cruiser. From every enterprise variant, xindi aqua, kelvin timeline stuff, every ktinga/D7, romulan classics like t’liss, and some 25th century stuff like the refit classes for previously used ships like the neo constitution class or the Ross class.

I love this video - lots of great recommendations and you explained why pretty well for fresh eyes. I didn't even know about that Buran trait because I don't usually look at the big cruisers. My only input as a SCI main is that more Intel seats is actually very good right now with Temporal Investigator. Because of the procs from using intel abilities, I can have 7+ anomalies up at any given time (granted I'm in the area long enough). More intel seats means more intel procs which means more chances at a free anomaly. HOWEVER that isn't in the purview of this video, and for that I think the comment about wanting Tempo over Intel makes sense. It's just easier out of the box and can shove out a lot of physical damage without relying on anything else.

Newbies should 100% buy dew, it's by far the easiest thing to build out. Torps + EPG cost a small fortune in traits/consoles to work right and tanking isn't much better. You are spot on with the arbiter, I started with the arbiter, it was my low cost entry option into sto before I went and bought half the store, but back when I didn't want to put money into the game, it was the arbiter. Great starting ship for anyone. The gagarin is also good, to be fair both together are amazing, especially if you are doing FAW on your arbiter. I would however never recommend anyone's first ship be for tank/epg, you will 100% suck at tanking/EPG with only those ships, at least the arbiter can do DEW on it's own.

If soneone is in doubt about (eventually) getting the Legendary Battlecruiser bundle in the future, but want the Emergency Weapon Cycle trait, they could also grab the KDF Battlecruiser version, the Kurak, which also comes with a cloak as added bonus. Third option would be the ROM version, Morrigu (BUT that ship also has a far superior Legendary Bundle option)
@necronix99478 ай бұрын
Since I come back a couple of years ago I farmed just about everything. Unlock toon slots, Shared bank slots, currency caps, Farm cheap ships of the exchange for Admiralty cards worry about loadouts when you got enough Admiralty cards to rinse the Dill, farming the frengi TOD for the bonus makes it very easy to farm Dill, trade in for zen making nearly everything free and build what ever you want, The more toons the more dill can go in the exchange each day the quicker you can get things and you wont have to pay for any of it, That how I started when I came back and the old toon had nothing, now has nearly run out of things to buy.
@ajtame8 ай бұрын
Newbies (i was one recently so I know) tend to always start the conversation with "what's the best ship" and the reply from other players is always "depends on your build and what you want to do" which is 100% true. The main thing really isn't ever the ship, but the traits you slap on it. Any old pile of space trash will perform just fine with a great set of treats slapped on it and some decent weapons/engines/consoles.

1:10 Ya agree. I wager most peoples first purchase in the game will be something small as they dip there toes into the p2w pool. My first purchase was the temporal battle cruiser bundle because on sale at the time it was less then 2k zen for a t6. The ship is pretty bad now a days and the arbiter is probably the first ship I would recommend now a days for the trait alone is still used on beam builds and the console can be decent if you need more survivability. This was actually my 2nd buy. I never flew the ship long but I still use this trait on any beam build I make years later. 4:42 Yesss doood, This is probably my number 1 pick for first buy now a days. The arbiter is nice for the trait but you can use 1 of the many other beam traits as filler. The gargarin though has a must get trait if you actually want to run a viable torp build. This ships trait is what makes torp builds viable imo and any torp build without this trait just feels bad after you have tried it. Sci torp or full on tac torp its a must get trait for any torp build. The 2nd and less known thing about this ship is it has a busted long slip steam. I often run this ship with the legendary voyager trait to clear all of alpha and beta on tour with fresh 65 alts with little effort. I know miracle worker ships in general have longer slip streams but this ship something about it I swear the slip steam comes off cd just as it runs out. 8:30 I don't know about tanking but I always like the idea of a sci tank on a voyager with the deploy armor console. 9:29 Somerville is actually the next ship I was looking at getting as I start getting into more sci builds.
