I'm always surprised to hear people say things with so much certainty. I think Belgium still is where the real competition is.Then come Holland and Germany. This kind of talk (short distance: shoulders, long wings etc.) was already out of date when I started pigeon racing in 1968. Yes, there were a lot of stories like that, originating from the time before WW2. Nowadays we know the quality of a pigeon is not defined by that kind of carateristics. Problem is: these stories mislead starting fanciers. A starting fancier should do what did old Ko (Jacobus den Exter): send the young birds to a 100 km race, next week 150, next week 200. No tossing or other bs. All pigeons that don't classify 2 times(1:4) are selected out. None of your pigeons classifies 2 times? Be happy; you just saved yourself a lot of money! Old Ko always had pigeons that classified 24/25 times out 26 races in the same season.
